Broadway Streetcar Extension Community Priorities SurveyOverview
The City of Seattle is building a modern streetcar network that will provide new urbanmobility options, support economic growth and strengthen connections among the placeswhere people live, work and socialize. The First Hill Streetcar Line will be an important link in the regional transit system, connecting diverse and vibrant residential neighborhoods and business districts, while alsoserving major medical centers, higher learning institutions and major sporting event venues. The City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has secured funding to reviewand design an extension of the First Hill Streetcar Line into the Broadway Business District.
As part of SDOT’s ef
fort to involve and engage the public in the design of the BroadwayStreetcar Extension, between December 13, 2012, and February 25, 2013, the project posted and promoted a community survey. Interviewers also conducted a door-to-doorsurvey of businesses along Broadway. The objective of the survey was to learn more about:
What features of Broadway are most important to preserve and/or enhance
Where the northern streetcar terminus should be located
Which of the proposed streetcar alignments are preferred
How people intend to use the First Hill Streetcar and the Broadway StreetcarExtension once they are operationalThis document summarizes the survey results. Because of many factors, survey results, while generally informative, should not be viewed as statistically valid. The feedback the project team received while conducting the community survey will helpguide the planning and design process for the Broadway Streetcar Extension.
