New Laws Impact Education
Family Connection is excited that our new federal administration iscommitted to the education of children. The economic stimulus packageincluded over $115 billion in strategic investments for education and thiswill benefit many students in our local community.Our federal legislators are going to start looking at thereauthorization of No Child Left Behind soon. It is important that you getinvolved and let your US Representative and Senators how you feel aboutthis legislation. If you need help writing a letter to express your thoughtsabout NCLB, just give me a call and I will be happy to provide you withassistance.Education is a team effort and we all have an important role to play.

Parent-Child Home Program students visited the southside branch of the Easton Area PublicLibrary in January for storytime, crafts, and a snack. Each child received a copy of the bookSnow Bears.

Transition Initiative (SB6)Family Connection has partnered with the UnitedWay of the Greater Lehigh Valley to developconnections among early childhood educators,the Easton Area School District, and parents sothat children are prepared for a successful entryto kindergarten.21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC)is an afterschool academic enrichment programthat prepares students at Cheston ElementarySchool to meet state academic standards throughhands-on learning activities and individualizedattention.

Welcome New Staff!
Susan Neith is our new dental program assistant. She is going to support the school district’soral health initiative by helping during school-based dental service days, preparing educationalmaterials and dental supplies for students and families, and coordinating health insurance outreach.
Anayeli Jimenez is our new family support specialist for Palmer, March, Forks andTracyElementary Schools. She speaks Spanish fluently and is available to provide assistance to bilingualfamilies at Cheston and Paxinosa Elementary Schools.
Anita Hunt is our new Success by 6
®
transition coordinator. This initiative will coordinate theefforts of early childhood educators, the school district, and parents so that we can all work together to help children have a successful start in school.
SAVE THE DATE!
Family Connection is participating in the Walk for a Healthy Communitypresented by Highmark Blue Shield on Saturday June 13, 2009 in HistoricDowntown Bethlehem. The Walk for a Healthy Community is a fundraiser thatbenefits local health and human service agencies in the Lehigh Valley, such as FamilyConnection. Highmark Blue Shield underwrites the cost of the walk so that 100% of money raised by walkers goes directly to the 18 participating organizations.
Mark Saturday, June 13, 2009 on your calendar and start gathering friends,family members, neighbors, and co-workers to join you in walking to ensure ahealthier community.
