The April 17 and 18convention and show promises to bethe best ever. Jeff McBride is thisyear’s headliner. He will present afull 50-minute act in the Saturdaynight stage show. Other featuredperformers in the two-hourproduction will be the respectivepresidents of the InternationalBrotherhood of Magicians and theSociety of American Magicians--JoanCaesar and Bruce Kalver.Noland Montgomery, who is thefour-time winner of the Ring 50Magician of the Year competition,will entertain in the opening half of the program. The master of ceremonies for the evening will beRing 50’s own Eric Henning.An extraordinary performer,lecturer, teacher and innovator, Jeff has a seemingly inexhaustiblesupply of energy, curiosity andcreativity. Two new members were acceptedinto Ring 50’s ranks in March.Thomas Bohacek of Haymarket,Va., has always been interested inmagic. Professional magician KevinOwens has taken him under his wingand helped develop his magic skills.Thomas is also a member of theSociety of American Magicians(SAM).Theo Rushin, Jr. of Germantown,Md., started magic in the 1970’s whenhe was in elementary school. Mark Wilson was his inspiration. Afterseveral years of working, he hasrenewed his interest in magic. As anamateur magician he performs underthe name of “Teo”.

He showed us some great stuff anda lot of us were in a buying mood withthe bargains offered at our annual“What’s New at Barry’s” meeting.Are you ready for Magi-Whirl 2009?It’s hard to believe it’s almost here. We’realso looking forvolunteers to help with registrationduties, ushering, and a variety of otherassignments. Theperformance will be in Bishop IretonHigh School’s Whaley Auditorium.Proceeds will benefit the schoolstechnical theater program.The show will be emceed by Ring50’s Eric Henning. Noland Montgomery,who has been our Magician of the Yearfour times now, will perform. Therealso will be a joint guest performanceby the presidents of the InternationalBrotherhood of Magicians and theSociety of American Magicians.Before the convention though,there are more great things ahead.We will have our annual auctionthe evening of April 1 at our regularmonthly meeting. There will besomething special this time becausea magician in the area has donatedfive boxes of magic that I have justpicked up. Other members also willhave items for sale.As in the past, Dick Christian andBill Wells will be the auctioneers.There will be both a silent auctionand a live one. Treasurer BobPatterson has developed auctionforms which you can download. Justcheck with him on how to do it.Nominations for new officers forthe coming year also are expectedthe evening of the auction. I havevolunteered to serve another termas president unless someone wantsto step up to the helm. They certainlyare invited. We also are looking formembers to take other key postsincluding vice president andsecretary.Your contributions of service arethe key to keeping the group movingforward.
