ISRAEL:
Diplomatic
efforts
evi-
dently
are
under way
to
resolve
the
disputewhicharose
Monday between
Israeland
the
United NationsEmergency
Force(UNEF)
concerning
the
establishment
of
UNcheckpoints
on
the
Cairo-Suez road.
25X1
According
to
pressaccounts,
the
disputed
UN
checkpoint
at
Kilometer101--at
the
western
edgeof
the Israeli
line
along
the
Cairo-Suezroad--was
in
operationyesterday,
although
an
Israeli postwas alsonearbyand Israeli soldiers were clearly
in
control
of
the
highway.Egyptian
and
Israeli
representatives
are
scheduled
to
meet
today
to
con-tinue theirdiscussionsabout
the
implementation
of
the
six-pointcease-fire agreement.
Minor
cease-fire violations were reportedyes-
terday
on
both
sides
of
the Suez
Canal,
but
they
were
generally
limited
to
small-arms
fire.
The
level
andintensity
of
theseviolationswas
lowerthan
those reported
on
Monday.
Some
Egyptiansmall-
arms fire
was
reportedly
directed
at two
Israeliunits engaged
in
fortifications
work.along
the
canal.Israel claims that
the
incidents
are
different
from
earlier
ones,
because
the
Egyptiansapparently opened
fire in
an
attempt
to
prevent
the
Israelis from work-
ing
within
their ownarea
ofcontrol;
previousclashes had involved firing between troops
where
the
cease-fire
line
is
unclear.
