on

yesterday,
except
for
a
clash
on
the
east
bank
oftheSuez
Canal.
The
POW
issuehas
not
yet
beenresolved
andthe
UNSecurityCouncil
con-
tinues
to
grapple
with
the
problem
of
staffing
its
peacekeeping
force.Theincident
in
the Sinai
involvedthe
movement
of
about
a
company-sized
Egyptian force closer
to
Israeli
lines near the
Gidi
Pass.
An
Israeli
spokes-
man
said the
Egyptians probably were trying
to
im-prove their positions,rather than break
out.
TheIsraelis fired
warning
shots
over
the
heads
of
the
Egyptians,
and an
hour-longskirmish
ensued
involv-
ing
artillery and
tanks.
The Syrianfront
was
calm
throughoutthe
day;
