A Victorious Life Of Hope
Read 1 Peter 1:1-2:12
Dee Dee Lee
A lie without hope is one lived in deeat and ear. As Christ ollowers, our hope is in spendingeternity orever with Christ. This can transorm our lives into examples o love and security nomatter what happens beore we get there. But do our lives model hope, showing others welive the victorious lie in Christ? A quote rom Vance Havner says, “Christians are always just aew heartbeats rom heaven. It ought to make a dierence.”In 1 Peter 1 we are called to holy living - living lie as i we are secure because o aith in ourgreat God. The uture hope o seeing Christ ace to ace should give all o us the motivationto be hope-lled and be risk-takers in serving God and others. The reality is it won’t be easy.Suering or the sake o our aith may nd us dragging our eet. But Peter reminds us thattrials and struggles rene and strengthen our aith. That wonderul I Peter 1:7 verse about therener’s re in
The Message
says, “Pure gold put in the re comes out o it
pure; genuineaith put through this suering comes out
When Jesus wraps this all up, it’syour aith - not your gold - which God will have on display as evidence o His victory.” Yes, it isall about God,
about us.Victorious lie is what God wants or us. It’s Christ’s victory that will shine out rom us to theworld. Being examples o hope will hurt and will oten be a struggle, but with God’s helpanything is possible. I was recently encouraged rom a quote by Beth Moore in her study
Believing God,
“Obedience to God in a difcult situation will ultimately bear ruit, even thoughit looks like it might immediately cause hardship.” Risk and perseverance are marks o anobedient, hope-lled lie, and leaning on God is required!Another wonderul gem in our reading today reminds us that we are a
chosen people.
The New Living Translation
o 1 Peter 2:5-7 reads, “And now God is building you, as living stones, intohis spiritual temple.…’I am placing a stone in Jerusalem, a chosen cornerstone, and anyonewho believes in him will never be disappointed.’ Yes, He is very precious to you who believe. But or those who reject Him, ‘The stone that was rejected by the builders has now becomethe cornerstone.’ ” As His living stones, our lives gloriy Christ as we model victorious hope toothers. What a lie!
