SMOKING AMONG TEENAGERS

The purpose of this report is to findthe main causes and socio-psychological factors which may causeteenager
smoking dependence. Theinformation was collected from a groupof more than 100 students aged 15-18at the Naukova Zmina Lycee and theScandinavian Gymnasium (both Kyiv,Ukraine).During the empirical research of psychological factors involved inteenager
smoking the following wasfound out:1.
The interrelationship betweensusceptibility to smoking and the levelof self-esteem of adolescents isdistinctively inverted: the greater is the level of self-esteem, the less ateenager smokes; the less is self-esteem, the more an adolescentsmokes.2.
The interrelationship between the propensity to smoking and level of moral standards of the teens is expressively reversed: the lower is thelevel of moral standards, the more a teenager smokes, the higher arethe standards - the less a teenager smokes.3.
The interrelationship between the
propensity to smoking and thelevel of emotional sensitivity demonstrates the similar inversion: moresensitive adolescents smoke less than those who are less sensitive.4.
The interrelationship between the propensity to smoke and the level of dreaminess among teenagers is a pronounced inverse: the dreamier ateenager is, the less he/she smokes.5.
The interrelationship between the propensity to smoke and the level of independence of adolescents is distinctively inverted: the lower is thelevel of independence, the more likely is his/her tendency to smoke;
