How successful is the Church in her EVANGELIZATION?

New Evangelization is a term used by Pope John Paul II in his encyclical Redemptoris Missio, 1992 not a new message

Evangelization cannot be new in its content since its very theme is always the one gospel given in Jesus Christ

Evangelization can be new in ardor, methods, and expression

Evangelization is not merely a passing of doctrines but rather of a personal and profound meeting with the Savior
-John Paul II

Pope John Paul II sees the need for a great relaunching of evangelization in the present life of the Church

MISSIO AD GENTES - Missionary activity of the Church in relation to those who have not heard of Christ - Directed to people or groups who do not yet believe in Jesus (Redemptoris Missio, 34)

PASTORAL CARE FOR YOUNG CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES Communities who have received the proclamation of the Good News who bear witness to the Gospel in their surroundings; and have a sense of commitment to the universal mission but who still need to strengthen their faith and build up their communities

THE NEW EVANGELIZATION - Addressed to NON-PRACTICING CHRISTIANS and to entire cultures (RM,8) - Directed to established churches whose practices of faith have veered away from the Gospel due to modernization

LAITY and ECCLESIAL MOVEMENTS play a SIGNIFICANT ROLE in the mission of EVANGELIZATION (John Paul II)

For your part young people and children who look to tomorrow with hearts full of hope, you are called to be artisans of history and evangelization now and in the future (Pope John Paul II)

HOW CAN THE YOUNG PEOPLE EVANGELIZE OR RE-EVANGELIZE THE WORLD THEY LIVE IN?

Pope John Paul II calls young people to be generous of themselves: being young in faith, you must be like the first Christians and radiate enthusiasm and courage, in generous devotion to God and neighbor (Redemptoris Missio, 91) set yourselves on the path of holiness

Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCPII) ( January 20 February 17, 1991) - A response to the Call for a New Evangelization

Its high points are contained in four important and interconnected themes: (1) We, as Church in the Philippines envision ourselves as the Community of Disciples, who firmly believe in the Lord Jesus and joyfully live in harmony and solidarity with one another, with creation and with God. (2) Following the way of the Lord, we opt to be a Church of the Poor which demands evangelical poverty of us all, and harness the transformative power of the poor among us towards the justice and love of God in this world.

(3) To achieve this vision, we shall embark on a renewed integral evangelization and witness to Jesus Christs gospel of salvation and liberation through our word, deeds and lives. (4) As Bishops, Priests, Religious and Laity, we together commit ourselves to implement the spirit and decrees of the PCP-II in order to inculcate gospel values in our milieu.

Revitalization of the Church and the renewal of our Catholic faith as the objectives of Vatican II call for a New Evangelization It says that the Church must be continuously renewed and reformed

Renewed Evangelization refers to all efforts to a rerooting / re-experiencing faith in Jesus through the community, for the world

-refers

to new vigor, new methods, new expressions

INTEGRAL it sees evangelization holistically -Interplay between faith and justice -love concretized in various forms of evangelization

DEVELOPMENT (Populorum Progresio) - Dealing with integral development of the whole man and of every man - Full development of the whole person in all dimensions (physical, psychological, cultural, ,moral, spiritual)

NOT ONLY the struggle to material poverty but against moral and spiritual poverty (RM,59)

Development is integral if it serves the good of the whole community and of all its members, that is, to do the good of all and each individual because we are really responsible for all (SRS, 1987 38)

An important way for people to experience liberation and development is for the Church to promote the cause of the poor, women, youth, farmers, laborers, fisher folk, rural poor, overseas workers, tribal communities and the environment (PCPII)

RENEWED CATECHESIS (Catechesis education toward maturity in faith) - Christ centered and rooted in the Word of God

Renewed Catechesis - It must be authentically Filipino (PCPII) (Inculturation presenting the Christian faith and making it part of a peoples cultural heritage (Ecclesia in Asia,21) - using symbols and languages that are easily understood, expressions and words which touch the minds, hearts and souls of the people

Renewed Catechesis It must be systematic - it must present in an ordered and programmed way the whole of the Good News from the BIBLE and SACRED TRADITION and as taught by the CHURCH

RENEWED SOCIAL APOSTOLATE Promote human development, justice, and peace in society Demands social action centers in every diocese to intensify their ministry of raising the consciousness of people

RENEWED SOCIAL APOSTOLATE -help the poor train and organize themselves towards economic selfreliance, form peoples consciousness with regard to fundamental human rights and defend the rights of the poor (PCPII)

RENEWED WORSHIP The whole of life must be an act of worship (PCP II, 167-68) Renewing worship life requires renewal in prayer life (PCP II 169)

The THREE AREAS OF EVANGELIZATION are INTER-RELATED NO AUTHENTIC RENEWAL CAN HAPPEN IN ISOLATION FROM THE OTHER AREAS
