Chapel UMW Spring Breakfast Chapel UMW hosted their annual Womens Spring Breakfast on Saturday March 23, 2013, at 9:00 am in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Susan Beichley welcomed the group of 35 members and guests as they gathered at beautifully decorated tables arranged in the shape of a cross. The committee served a delicious breakfast of fruit cups, mufns, individual quiches, and beverages. Jennifer Daniel and Rikki Gruen presented a program in the sanctuary. We sang some songs to Rikkis accompaniment on the guitar. Rikki then spoke to us about the life of Jesus on the day of His entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday found in Luke chapter 19. She also referenced several verses in Psalms about praise and thanksgiving. She mentioned that we have acceptance from God. Our praise causes God to move on our behalf. God takes possession of us. In closing, she read Luke 17:20, 21 where Jesus was asked when the kingdom of God will come. Jesus words were: Gods kingdom is coming, but not in a way that you will be able to see with your eyes. People will not say, Look, here it is! or, There it is! because Gods kingdom is within you. The churches represented at the breakfast were Chapel UMC Church, Gladbrook UMC Church, Garwin UMC Church, Green Mountain UCC Church, Iowa River Brethren Church, and Garwin Christian Church. Several guests were from churches in Marshalltown. Committees for the event included program-Cindy Ormston and Janice Collins; table decorations-Lois Groth and Karen Handorf; hostesses-Kathryn Burt, Jo Svendsen, Susan Beichley, and Connie Buchman. Respectfully submitted, Carolyn Kloster, secretary

What makes a great parent??

Do you know parents whose kids seem to just have it together? Do you see great young adults in our community and wonder, what did their parents do right? The Parenting Sunday School class is hosting a panel discussion with parents whose children are great youth and asking them all of their toughest questions about raising kids. Wed like to invite everyone who has children in our congregation to come and listen to what some great parents think we should know! The forum will be during Sunday School, on May 5th in the Parenting Classroom.

Card s of T h a n k s

I would like to thank you in person, but I am one of those who always chickens out when it comes to speaking in front of people because I might not get through what I want to say to each and every one of you. I am better at writing. My mom/best friend was so much to many. She loved to have fun, and she absolutely loved children. We had welcomed nine foster brother/ sisters into our homes and also had three foreign exchange students. She was the mother/nurse to all the neighborhood kids. In a lot of the cards everyone said that they always felt welcome in our home.
My mom and dad raised us four girls with love and faith, and I thank them for that because that is who we have become today. There were many mistakes but we are strong. My family and I would like to thank you for all your prayers and the cards that were sent. I am so thankful to have been blessed with two wonderful families.
My mom and dad wanted any money that was given to be divided up between the Garwin Library and the GMG girls athletics, and as of March 16, they are getting over a thousand dollars each. Thank you for helping my mom give to two of her memorials. May GOD bless each and every one of you. Love, Amy Niedermann Dear Chapel friends, When our son was hurt, and for our anniversary in November, so many of you sent the most lovely cards to us. We so enjoyed them at the time they arrived to the hospital. A card from home can brighten any day. Now that Dan and I are back home enjoying a normal, quiet life again, we are re-reading the cards. We received so many cards from our loving Chapel family. Notes within the cards were lled with beautiful scripture and notes of encouragement that would get us through those fearful days. Today as I sit and read every word, they remind me of how fortunate we are. Fortunate to say Andrew is enjoying the full recovery so many of you prayed for, but also how fortunate Dan and I are that the Lord, eight years ago, brought us to a little United Methodist church lled with the best friends we will ever know. ~Dan and Tricia Steen
