MY EFL537 EXPERIENCE(
Ta Duc VNU14 – EFL537 Spring 2009 – SNHUVNU.
)
I think all soft-wares and programs that my teacher provides are veryimportant and useful when I want to design the lesson plans in teaching Englishin general and create on line lessons for EFL students. My intention is to buildon line lessons for my students and I think my computer knowledge is limited. Ireally want to keep contact to my teacher, Prof.Jeff. I hope he helps me when Ihave problems in doing them.I suggest that VNU staff and the teacher should have plans andexplanations for students before taking this course, for example, students haveto know about basic of computers, or students should do ….. because not all people in Vietnam has much knowledge about computers, even they have notused computer or they only use computer for typing and saving lesson plans anddocuments with Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Ihope the teacher and VNU staff have suitable plans.Here is my experience while studying EFL537:Firstly, you have to remember is your username and password that myteacher provides. You can change your password as: click in your username, thescreen appear your profile, click

, type your new password, then click

.Secondly, you have to know about some softwares or programs andwebsites that you have to use in the whole course. 
1. Skype
: is a software that you can chat or voice chat ….. with my teacher or other people. 
2. Mozilla Firefox 
: is program that you can access to Internet. It is moreadvantage, especially, when you do bookmarking.
3. IrfanView 
: is a software that you can edit images or pictures. You can crop,resize and save images or pictures with .gif, .jpg…. it allows you post images or  pictures websites or your lesson plans.
4. Hot Potatoes
: is a software that you can design exercises with JCloze,JQuiz, JMatch, JMix and JCross. You can use them to post in websites or inyour lesson plans. Hearing it is the same as Violet software but I think it isdifferent. You can use Violet software to design exercises and use them withPowerPoint but with Hot Potatoes, you can post them in websites. 
5. Audacity
: is a software that you can record your voice save it with .mp3 and post it in websites. You can edit the recording, for example, cut or paste, loud or low, fast or slow,…Remember:- choose mono input (see the instruction) before recording.- choose the quality 32kbps, speed 44100 Hz (44 kHz) and .mp3.- set up LAME for Audacity (following the link that my teacher provides) before saving the recording.
 
6. Video
: you have to use some softwares that my teacher provides to set up.They allow you record the videos, edit them an post them in websites. Withmodern laptops, they had the Camera Assistant Software. You can use it.

delicous.com: is a website that allows you can bookmarking articles, journalsand websites which you think they are favorite and useful. It allows you findany information you need quickly with tags. It saves your time to findinformation. You use it when you want to bookmark useful websites, articles,…You should open this website with Mozilla Firefox.Remember: when you register with Delicious.com and set up following theinstruction carefully. Because if you did not set up correctly, you can no see the bookmarking buttons. If so, click in help, click How do I install the  bookmarking buttons into my browser again?

slideshare.net: is a website that you can post your presentations to share withother people in the world, especially your lesson plan. I think you will receiveuseful comments from them about your presentations. You have to register withSlideshare.com. After that, you click

to post your presentations.

Posterous.com: is a personal website that you can post your any information,for example, your audio introduction, your comments, your presentations, your images, …. So people in the world can read about you.Remember: after registering withPosterous.com(following the teacher’sinstruction), you only browse an image and type some information about you byclick Edit profile. Other information you have to post by your email youregistered. When you log in your posterous, click
