The Comenius Project Charity Work - The Fairy Tale Project

In year 7 we had a project about Fairy tales. The pupils read and discussed some famous fairy tales to find out: What makes a story into a real fairy tale? They were then supposed to write a classical Fairy tale with the typical ingredients and make it into a small book with self made pictures and drawings. They had to practise to read their story before taking contact with a nursery or pre-school in order to read it to small children. It was a success.

Charity Work - Building Gingerbread houses

A Swedish tradition is to make and build houses out of gingerbread dough. Just before Christmas holidays year 7 had a task to construct, bake and design a gingerbread house in groups of three. The other pupils in our unit, year 8 and 9 voted for the one they thought was the best, the fanciest or just the one they liked most. The houses were then brought to and given to a nursery and a day centre for elderly people with hope to cheer up the Christmas days. That was a success too.

Styles and Trends in music

In year 9 our pupils study the music and clothing styles from the 1950s to the 1990s. They are divided into groups of 4-5 and each group gets a decade each. They are then supposed to perform live in front of their parents in the end. This is generally regarded as a final task for our students in year 9. But this year the 9-graders have Music only one term so some classes had to do this just before Christmas or early January. This project makes our students grow in self confidence and the parents always get very proud of their children. Of course the student collected some money from the audience. This money together with the money collected later when our other pupils will do this project is going to be sent to a helping organisation, which one the students will decide in May/June.
