ER, 1,541.0 IP) in 226 G/225 GS with Kintetsu (200104) and Rakuten (2005-2011) in the Japan League.
Pitched in the 2004 Athens Olympics as a member of
the Japan national team (bronze medal)also part of
gold medal-winning Japan squad in the 2009 World
Baseball Classicwent 1-1 with 1.35 ERA (3 ER,
20.0 IP) in 4 G/3 GS in WBC play.
Selected by Osaka Kintetsu in 5th round of 1999
NPB amateur draft.

2013 SPRING TRAINING REVIEW


WINNING WAYSthe Mariners finished their 37th spring in the Cactus League with a 22-11 record
have now recorded three consecutive winning springs (16-13-2 in 11, 16-9-1 in 12)first three-year
streak of winning springs since 1997-9913th spring overall with a .500 or better record (also: 2012,
2011, 2004, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1994, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1988, 1984)recorded the second-best
best spring winning percentage in club history, trailing only 1994 (21-9/.700)finished 2nd in the
Cactus League standings, 3.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals (25-7-2/.781).
SPRING WINSthe Mariners 22 wins set a spring training club record, and were the second-most
in the Majors behind the Royals (25-7-2)the old spring record was 21 wins in 1994, the first year
the Mariners began training at the Peoria Sports Complex.
20 YEARS AT PEORIA STADIUMthe Mariners celebrated their 20th spring training at the Peoria
Sports Complex, and their 37th season training in the Valley of the Sunthe Mariners and Padres
have agreed to a long-term lease agreement with City of Peoria keeping the Peoria Sports Complex
as the teams spring training and player development home up to 2034.
WINNING STREAKthe Mariners recorded a 10-game winning streak Feb. 23-March 4, setting a
club spring record, besting the previous 8-game streak set March 28-April 4, 1993also recorded a
6-game win streak March 14-19.
MORSE HR KINGMichael Morse finished spring training leading the Majors with 9 home runs,
including homers in three of his last four games (7 HR in last 13 G)Morse set the Mariners singlespring record with his 9 HR, passing Mike Wilsons 8 home runs in 2009Morse also hit 9 home
runs during spring play with the Washington Nationals in 2011, and went on to have a career
season batting .303 with 31 HR, 95 RBI and a .910 OPSMorse ended spring batting .357 (20x56)
with 12 extra base hits (9 HR, 3 2B), and recorded the highest OPS in the Majors (1.332).
CACTUS HOMERSthe 9 home runs by Michael Morse were the most by a Cactus League player
since 2003 when Barry Bonds hit 10 home runs for the GiantsMorse, who also hit 9 HR in 2011

HOME RUN DERBYthe Mariners set a club spring record with 58 home runs, leading all MLB
