Description
Harmony bible (和谐经) consists of two parts: the personal harmony and the social harmony. The personal harmony part includes the four Buddhist books: The Lankavatara Sutra楞伽经, The Diamond Sutra金刚经, Sutra of Transcendental Wisdom心经, and Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch六祖坛经. The social harmony part includes partial New Testament from Luke to 2 Thessalonians. The two different emphases in harmony by Buddha and Jesus can be seen clearly by the last advices from them. Before his death, Buddha told his disciples to work on the personal harmony. “All things are perishable. Strive with earnestness.” On the other hand, Jesus told his disciples to work on the social harmony. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Thousands years after, their followers still follow their last advices. Therefore, it is possible to combine them into the whole harmony consisting of the Buddhist personal harmony and the Christian social harmony.
In the Preface of this book, the origin of harmony is explained by the unified theory of psychology and theology. The unified theory of psychology and theology is the theory about the interaction between the human mind and the supernatural mind. The unified theory deals with the supernatural miracle and the abstractness (not covered by human natural psychology) revealed by the supernatural.
The origin of harmony is the blessed harmonious temperament and society. The human temperaments can be divided into the non-harmonious temperaments and the harmonious temperament. The instinct for the harmonious temperament is the conscience instinct that is the combination of the hyper friendly instinct and the detective instinct, resulting in initial eager cooperation without lie. Initial eager cooperation without lie is the TIT FOR TAT strategy that is the best strategy in the prisoner's dilemma game. The great competitive advantage of the conscience instinct caused the rapid evolution of the brain in the human evolution. The prehistoric hunters and gatherers had the harmonious temperament and society, which evoked the supernatural miracle to select the harmonious temperament and society as the chosen blessed temperament and society.
Buddhism represents mainly the harmonies temperament, while Christianity represents mainly for the harmonious society. Sanctification is to achieve the harmonious temperament. In the five-step sanctification, (1) people originally have the human innate goodness (the harmonious temperament), (2) the deviation from the innate goodness comes from civilization, (3) the return to the human innate goodness is attainable (4) through the fourfold mind, consisting of the calm mind, the clear mind, the loving-kindness mind, and the no-self mind, and (5) at a certain critical point, a person gains the Insight (dun wu顿悟in禅宗Zen Buddhism) to realize the non-existence as self-ending of the civilized autobiographic self and the reappearance as the rebirth of the original human innate goodness, resulting in the transformation from the non-harmonious temperament into the harmonious temperament. Justification is to achieve the harmonious society. In the five-step justification for Christianity, (1) God is love, (2) life means suffering, (3) the source of suffering is sin committed by all people, (4) the cessation of suffering is attainable, and (5) the path to the cessation of suffering is through confession of sins, repentance, acceptance of the salvation of Jesus’ sacrifice to cleanse sins, and the rebirth into the harmonious society as the Kingdom of God.
