Hello, Christophe.What are you doing thisafternoon?
Christophe:
Hi, Aiste. Ithink I'm going to run thisafternoon.
Aiste:
To run? But it'sraining outside.
Christophe:
I don't care.I love running in the rain,and I have to run becauseI am training for amarathon.
Aiste:
A marathon! Isn’tthat like some 100kilometers of running?
Christophe:
Oh, no. Amarathon is a race whereyou run 42 kilometers. It'sa long distance, so youneed to train every dayfor it.
Aiste:
So do you actuallyrun 42 kilometers everyday when training for it?
Christophe:
Oh, no.Actually, a goodpreparation for amarathon is about 12weeks of running, andyou never run for 42kilometers in one training.You never do thisbecause it's actually very,very bad for your body if you would do that, so yourun a maximum, like 32 to34 kilometers.
Aiste:
Every day?
Christophe:
Not everyday of course. I think,right now, I run about 80kilometers a week, butthat's almost every day,10, 15 kilometers that youhave to run.
Aiste:
And how manymarathons have you donealready?
Christophe:
I've alreadyran about four marathons,and now I'm preparing for my fifth marathon.
Aiste:
What is that goingto be like?
Christophe:
Well,actually, I hope to run lessthan three hours. It's quitefast. It's like fourteenkilometers average duringforty-two kilometers.
Aiste:
Whoa! Thatsounds difficult. I'm notreally into sports verymuch, so I think for me,even a five-minutes runseems kind of difficult andrequiring lots of endurance.
Christophe:
Well, in thebeginning, it's hardmaybe, but once you tryrunning a little bit longer,you really start liking it, soI would recommend youto do one training with meand you start slow andthen you build up slowlyuntil you can run five,maybe ten kilometers,and then you will see, youwill get addicted and youwill love it too. I think in acouple of years, you willrun your first marathon.
Aiste:
Oh, that soundsgreat but...I really don’tthink it’s for me.
