e’ve all heard the true, albeit tired, statement that the only constant ischange. What goes unnoticed, or if recognizedtoo often unspoken, is that renewal is constantas well. The natural world, as well as thehuman spirit, reminds us of this virtuallyevery day. As this is written, we’re enduring aliteral, economic and metaphoric winter. Whatcan give us a point on the horizon to focusupon, a date on the wall calendar to circle, and hope and motivation overall is knowing thatthere will be a spring. Many of the books in this catalog arecelebrations of life, in thought, in deed, and|very often, in the outdoors. I learned last
week that “welcome” is defned as “one whose
coming is in accord with another’s will.”Frankly, not only are the blooms and budsand warmer temps of spring welcome, so tooare the joys of summer, fall and even winter. To that end, we salute pretty much any andevery activity that leads us to a greaterappreciation of and respect for natural won-ders, physical endeavors and a collective karmaof goodwill. We aim to best support our staff and authors as we knit our efforts together tohelp readers get more out of life. Perhaps thatsounds a little heady, but we sincerely believethat this is one of the most important ways inwhich we can contribute; we thrive on thissense of purpose and connection to others.
