Avis MacLellan, former super-model and high fashion runway model, sat for an interview with me and discussed "Can I make it as a Top Model if I come from a small town, like Charleston, SC?"

The obvious answer is no matter where you come from and no matter what "kind" of model you are, you are still going to have to learn the business inside and out to become successful.

That will require classes and proper training from someone experienced enough to guide you in the right direction.

There is also a warning with links to various articles about the "fake" modeling schools that take thousands of dollars from young girls, promise them stardom, and produce nothing but heartache.

Be forewarned about these "modeling mills." They bulk advertise all over the county, but that kind of education is not required to become a top model.

Like Avis says, it does not cost thousands of dollars to become a model. Her classes run about $20.00 a class. You learn what kind of model you are: runway, editorial, catalog, parts model...then you learn how to act on a shoot, how to pose, how to walk.

Then she takes you right into the agencies in NYC for your casting calls. It's as easy as that.

So, yes, you can become a top model even if you are from a small town, but you need someone who already knows the industry and has already been a top model to guide you towards success.

Watch out for the rip offs and scam modeling schools who just suck up your money and crush your dreams.
