Spanish vs. Aztecs

The Spanish were able to conquer the Aztecs for many reasons. When the Spanish invaded

Tenochtitlan in the early 16th century, they wielded weaponry far superior to anything the Aztecs

could've imagined. They carried firearms, muskets, small cannons, and rode horses, all of which

terrified the Aztec natives. The Spanish also brought a disease called smallpox to Tenochtitlan.

Smallpox soon spread through the Aztecs Empire killing the Aztecs slowly but painfully. Before

Cortes had arrived at Tenochtitlan, he captured a Mayan woman named Malintzin. Malintzin

spoke the Aztec’s language so she told Cortes everything she heard. She told Cortes all the

Aztecs plans, so Cortes was always one step ahead of the Aztecs. In conclusion, there were

many reasons why the Spanish conquer the Aztecs Empire.
