Welcome to the official Riding Season for 2013! Theres going to be plenty for you all to do & the hardest part will be trying to decide which event to go to or how many you can make it to in one day With the events starting to pour in now, youll want to be sure to check out our Calendar of Events in this issue & also check our online calendar for the most up to the minute event information. The only way to get an event into the print magazine is by submitting it into our online calendar at our website www.thunderroads-virginia.com/events ..the website is very user friendly so it will only take a couple of minutes to put your event in - & its always FREE. You can also find our website at the bottom of our front covers. When submitting your events, please make sure that all of your information is included because we get several events submitted each month that have no city, address, contact info or times listed so we are unable to add them into our calendar. We want to help get the word out about whats going on out there. We could have pages & pages of events in our calendar from all of the flyers that we come across but for liability reasons, we require that all events be submitted to our website by event coordinators. After your event is approved & is posted into the online calendar, it will then get in line to go into the print magazine & if it posts by the 15th of the month, it will appear in the next months print magazine. Help us keep the fun stuff rolling in our calendar! Youll notice on our front cover that weve got an advertisement for an iconic biker bar down in Myrtle Beach SUCK BANG BLOW. This place has been a major hub for plenty of fun, live music, food & their famous burnout pit for Myrtle Beach Rally goers for as long as I can remember. Even though our hearts & full support of events are solid here in Virginia, we are helping to promote Myrtle Beach Bike Week to also assist our own state to help with our fight for helmet reform. It might seem kind of crazy but the number if riders who will travel outside the state of Virginia this riding season just so they can enjoy the freedom of choice to wear a helmet or not, is staggering. We should have such freedoms here in our state, but dont because of our helmet laws. With the help of VCOM and the support of riders across our state, we will continue the fight for helmet reform. By going to the Myrtle Beach Rallies this spring & fall, it will allow us to gather information, do interviews & take pictures of Virginia residents attending events outside of their own state so that they can enjoy a freedom that they long to have right here in Virginia& that is to helmet or not to helmet. More info will be released in our May issue as to the dates & times of where our staff will be located during the Myrtle Beach spring rally to conduct interviews & take pictures of our Virginia folks. We believe that this will help us show the lawmaking suits in Richmond, just what Virginia riders are missing out on & what could help drive more tourism dollars back into our own state for us to help our own economy. It sure is getting pretty outside with all the tress & flowers starting to bloom & warm breezes are starting to flow during the longer daylight hours. Enjoy the beautiful wonders of nature in springtime this month of April. Only those of us who ride motorcycles can truly appreciate just how wondrous nature is this time of year. Delco Vets want to bring Bowe home

National Photographer On March 28 veterans from the Delaware County stood outside Fox TV station Channel 29 in Philadelphia and set up a POW-MIA table with an unhappy birthday cake. The cake was for Prisoner of War, (POW) Sgt. Bowe R. Bergdahl of Idaho who has turned 27 years old. The Idaho resident has been missing since June 30, 2009. The cake was inscribed with Another Un-Happy Birthday for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl missing since June 30 2009 and a picture of Bergdahl. Patrick Hughes of Glen Mills, a Vietnam Veteran, is active in a number of veterans organization since 1993. As a member of Rolling Thunder whose mission is to publicize the POW/MIA issue he felt this would be a way to make people aware that Bergdahl is still alive and needs to come home. I wanted to do something to bring awareness to Bowes capture and hoped that setting up a POW/MIA table outside of Fox 29 might get some attention. Chuck Roth, also a Vietnam Veteran of Collingdale called a few other veterans and we met at 3rd and Market Streets. Anchors Sheinelle Jones and Mike Jerrick showed off the cake an told their audience that it was Bowes birthday and that he is still alive and waiting to come home. Afterwards the group of veterans took the cake to the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center in Philadelphia. Hughes wasnt the only person thinking of Bergdahl .his parents, Bob and Jani, sister Sky and friends, sent out a birthday message from KECH 95.3FM in Sun Valley, Idaho assuring him that they will not stop trying to bring him home. You can hear their message at the following link. www.kech95.com/news Hughes hopes that he will see Bergdahl come home alive as he has been active in Rolling Thunder and though he has seen some POWs come home alive usually the outcome is disappointing. I hoped that Commander Scott Spiker, shot down during the first Gulf war, would come home alive, but did not, then the next war where we did get some prisoners back. I got to meet the man who saved Jessica Lynchs life, Mohammed Odehal Rehaief. But since that time it has been very frustrating for me because I had hoped other POWs would come home alive, said Hughes. For three years Caroline and Keith Maupin came to Rolling Thunder to bring awareness that their son Matt Maupin was a POW. The armed forces medical examiner confirmed on March 29, 2008 that the human remains recovered in Iraq were those of Staff Sgt. Keith M. Maupin, 24, of Batavia, Ohio. Hughes met the father of Spec. Byron Fouty who was captured on May 12, 2007 along with SSG. Alex Jimenez. They both were killed by their captors on July 9, 2008 near the city of Jurf es Sakhr, Iraq remains were found and later

positively identified. The official date of their death is July 8, 2008. They were buried in Arlington National Cemetery. So before I die I want to see a live POW come home and greet him. And Bowe is still alive at this time, said Hughes. Today according to the Defense POW Missing Personnel website there are six names that are unaccounted for in the Middle East Conflict since 1991. Lt. Cmdr. Barry T. Cooke, U.S. Navy, was lost on Feb. 2, 1991, when his A-6 aircraft went down in the Persian Gulf. Lt. Robert J. Dwyer, U.S. Navy, was lost on Feb. 5, 1991, when his FA-18 aircraft went down in the Persian Gulf. Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2003-2010 Kirk Von Ackermann, Department of Defense (DoD) contractor, was lost on Oct. 9, 2003, while working in Forward Operating Base Pacesetter, Iraq. Timothy E. Bell, DoD contractor, was lost on April 9, 2004, while working in Baghdad, Iraq. Adnan al-Hilawi, DoD contractor, was lost on March 3, 2007, while working in Baghdad, Iraq. and Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Hughes, veterans and others plan to demonstrate in Washington DC on April 9, 2013 to keep Bergdahl and others from being left behind and not forgotten. The rally called Bring Us Home is a POW/MIA Freedom March which will begin at the Capital Building at 11:30 a.m.

Group Riding
With the riding season getting in full swing, hundreds of motorcyclists will flock to poker runs & events on the weekends to get their ride on. Many of these riders have just recently purchased their first bike and are anxious to be a part of all the fun out there. Even though they have their M license now, they are still new to motorcycling and most are very unfamiliar on how to ride in a group while participating in events or just riding with some new found friends. This Group Riding guide from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has some very important information that everyone should know. From the brand new riders to the veteran riders who have thousands of miles on the road, everyone should know these basic rules of riding together to keep it safe out there for a great ride.
QUICK TIPS: MSFs Guide to Group Riding

Motorcycling is primarily a solo activity, but for many, riding as a group -- whether with friends on a Sunday morning ride or with an organized motorcycle rally -- is the epitome of the motorcycling experience. Here are some tips to help ensure a fun and safe group ride: Arrive prepared. Arrive on time with a full gas tank. Hold a riders meeting. Discuss things like the route, rest and fuel stops, and hand signals (see diagrams on next page). Assign a lead and sweep (tail) rider. Both should be experienced riders who are well-versed in group riding procedures. The leader should assess everyones riding skills and the groups riding style. Keep the group to a manageable size, ideally five to seven riders. If necessary, break the group into smaller subgroups, each with a lead and sweep rider. Ride prepared. At least one rider in each group should pack a cell phone, first-aid kit, and full tool kit, so the group is prepared for any problem that they might encounter. Ride in formation. The staggered riding formation (see diagram below) allows a proper space cushion between motorcycles so that each rider has enough time and space to maneuver and to react to hazards. The leader rides in the left third of the lane, while the next rider stays at least one second behind in the right third of the lane; the rest of the group follows the same pattern. A single-file formation is preferred on a curvy road, under conditions of poor visibility or poor road surfaces, entering/leaving highways, or other situations where an increased space cushion or maneuvering room is needed. Avoid side-by-side formations, as they reduce the space cushion. If you suddenly needed to swerve to avoid a hazard, you would not have room to do so. You dont want handlebars to get entangled. Periodically check the riders following in your rear view mirror. If you see a rider falling behind, slow down so they may catch up. If all the riders in the group use this technique, the group should be able to maintain a fairly steady speed without pressure to ride too fast to catch up. ARONIA BERRIES
Move over, Acai berries and mangosteen. Theres a less expensive, easier-to-eat antioxidant in town, and its a superfood that Native Americans have known about for generations: Aronia berries. Its naturally tart and very similar in taste to a wine grape. What youre tasting in that tartness is actually very good for you. Its a type of an antioxidant and type of a compound that can be found in wine and can also be found in tea. Aronia berries contains a natural blend of polyphenolic antioxidants that combat the cell-damaging free radicals created in our bodies by stress, environmental pollution, medical x-rays, and other aspects of daily living (even exercise!). Among those antioxidants are anthocyanins, which have been shown to help fight diseases caused by oxidative stress like certain types of cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic inflammation, and liver function, according to studies published by the U.S. National Library of Medicine and elsewhere. According to the USDA, Aronia berries have twice as much antioxidant power as cranberries and four times as much as pomegranates, strawberries, goji berries, and blueberries. Aronia berries arent a dietary supplement, though -- theyre a food. Like elderberries or black currants, aronia berries can be used to make wine, jam, syrups, and tea; you can stir them into fresh sauces or use them along with blueberries in your breakfast muffinsthey are definitely good for you!

LEGISLATION WOULD PROHIBIT E15 GAS PENDING FURTHER INVESTIGATION Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has introduced H.R. 875, which would require the Environmental Protection Agency to stop the use of gasoline containing 15% ethanol (E15) until its harmful effects are investigated further. H.R. 875, introduced on February 28, would repeal the EPAs waiver decision approving the use of E15 and the authority of the agency to grant further decisions until the EPA seeks an independent scientific analysis of the effects of the E15 blend. There have been several tests and warnings highlighting E15s harmful effects on engines and their components, but they have all been dismissed by the EPA. Therefore, we must force the EPA to stop the use of E15 fuel until the serious safety, durability, performance and environmental concerns have been addressed, announced Rep. Sensenbrenner. Sensenbrenner has introduced several bills to address the risks associated with E15, and his latest legislation to halt the sale of the 15% alcohol blended fuel until further studies are completed, came less than a week after witnesses from automobile and motorcycle industry and consumer groups testified before the Science, Space and Technology Committee that more testing is needed. We have a responsibility to ensure that Americans using gas-powered machinery whether it be cars and boats or chainsaws and lawnmowers are not put at risk due to faulty fuel that has not been adequately vetted, Sensenbrenner said. BILL INTRODUCED IN CALIFORNIA TO REGULATE LANE SHARING No sooner had the California Highway Patrol published guidelines on how to safely maneuver your motorcycle between lanes of slow-moving traffic, than SB 350 was introduced by State Senator Jim Beall (D-San Jose) to codify the rules into law. California is the only state that allows lane sharing or lane splitting, precisely because there are no laws against it; though officers have a variety of charges they can levy against a reckless rider such as unsafe lane change or too fast for conditions. Bealls bill would restrict the practice by prohibiting motorcycles from splitting lanes unless specifically allowed; when a highway has been divided into three or more clearly marked lanes for traffic traveling in the same direction, a person operating a motorcycle shall not pass another vehicle in a portion of a lane occupied by that vehicle unless the following conditions are met: (1) The passing occurs during traffic congestion. (2) The passing occurs at a safe speed. Following furious feedback from motorcyclists opposed to over-regulating an act that 87% report doing almost daily during crowded commutes, Sen. Beall soon pulled his proposal and turned it into a two-year bill for future reconsideration. In the meantime, although ABATE of California did not initiate the measure, the group will work with Beall to amend the language, and vows our goal is to ultimately submit a bill that addresses the concerns of the motorcycle community; a bill that can be supported and endorsed by the ABATE membership. If the final bill doesnt meet ABATEs requirements, ABATE will vigorously oppose the bill and try to kill it. DRIVERS CAUSE MOST CRASHES WITH MOTORCYCLES, RESEARCH SHOWS For motorcycle riders, people in cages bear a disproportionate share of the blame for the high number of motorcycle crashes, while car drivers feel careless motorcyclists careening in and out of traffic are putting their own lives at risk. So whos mostly to blame when four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles collide? According to a recent Florida Department of Transportation study, bikers are right. Motorists driving cars and trucks are mostly at fault, often failing to yield the right of way to the smaller vehicles. In analyzing 10 years of Florida motorcycle crashes, Chanyoung Lee, a senior researcher at the University of South Floridas Center for Urban Transportation Research, found that 60% of the time motorists in other vehicles are at fault when they collide with motorcycles. But the study uncovered more: When looking at all motorcycle crashes, motorcycle operators bear a lot of responsibility as well. They have a significantly higher number of single-vehicle crashes than other drivers. Some 34% of motorcycle crashes involve one vehicle, according to the study, compared to only 19% of car crashes involving one vehicle. When looking at really severe and fatal motorcycle crashes, 50% involve just the motorcycle and no other vehicle, but when multiple vehicles are involved, greater blame falls on four-wheeled drivers. And most motorcycle crashes involve other vehicles. But its also a matter of awareness, according to Lee, who is part of FDOTs Motorcycle Safety Coalition. In driver surveys, FDOT has asked people how often they see motorcycles. Those with motorcycle endorsements on their drivers licenses report seeing motorcycles all the time, while those without endorsements who live in the same area report occasionally seeing motorcycles. Due to minimal levels of protection to their riders, approximately 80% of motorcycle crashes result in injury or fatality, according to the Network of Employees for Traffic Safety, while only 20% of passenger car crashes injure or kill the vehicle occupants. MMA HELPS DEFEAT SOUND WARRANT IN YARMOUTH, MA The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) is pleased to report that a town bylaw proposal has been successfully defeated in Yarmouth. With short notice, the MMA in concert with the Yarmouth Chief-of-Police and Deputy Chief attended a recent Board-ofSelectmen meeting and were successful in convincing the board that such a Bylaw would be unsuccessful. Armed with prior testimony used successfully around the state, including used to overturn a similar bylaw passed in Falmouth and subsequently struck down by the Commonwealth Attorney General, MMA Legislative Director Rick Gleason joined the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Yarmouth Police Department in their argument that Town Bylaws cannot exceed State Law, and that such a measure would essentially be meaningless. The MMA has long held strong opposition to the use of the OEM EPA Stamp on stock exhausts as an enforcement tool, because it is a consumer protection mechanism and not meant to be used against the consumer. It is also hard to locate on many models of motorcycle, hidden under seats on sport bikes, under saddle bags of cruisers, or simply facing the wrong way for aesthetic reasons. Most critically,

Instead, the MMA (www.MassMotorcycle.org) continues to hold a firm belief that the existing laws on the books are sufficient if properly implemented and enforced, specifically that simple test procedures do exist for muffled exhaust, whether replaced with after-market or not, with a reasonable sound level. LICENSE PLATE CAMERAS - A NEW WAY TO NAB SCOFFLAWS First came red light cameras attached to traffic lights to catch drivers trying to beat the light; then came speed cameras along the roadway to ticket lead-footed speeders; but now police are deploying cameras in their cruisers to scan our license-plates in order to get instant feedback on unpaid tickets and other warrants. It also allows authorities to monitor where average citizens might be at any particular time. That bothers some privacy advocates and organizations like the ACLU that oppose public intrusions into individual privacy. The groups are becoming more alarmed about license plate tracking as a growing number of police departments acquire the technology for electronic surveillance of traffic on public streets. Little Rock, AR Police Chief Stuart Thomas said the law enforcement benefits outweigh any concerns about possible abuse of the information, which, as a public record, is legally available for anyone to see. Lawmakers in several states, including Minnesota and Utah, have suggested setting a time limit for their departments regarding how long such data can be collected and stored, but many places like Little Rock have no set policy and have a growing archive of license plate photos, along with time stamps and the locations, showing where motorists were at certain times. Privacy advocates worry about the potential uses for such outside law enforcement, from snooping by stalkers and private investigators to businesses that sell personal data. Given how few rules are currently on the books to protect our privacy, its plausible that private investigators and data-mining companies could acquire this location data, said ACLU staff attorney Catherine Crump, adding that the organization has requested more information from government agencies, but hasnt filed any lawsuits. such your mail has been returned to you. Various Fed police forces in America including the FBI, the ATF & increasingly the Dept of Homeland Security have attempted to subvert these Constitutional guarantees using the Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) & in several recent cases trademark law.

Ah, Spring Isnt it wonderful? Its so nice to be able to get out on the open road, even if we do have some pesky spring showers popping up here and there. Like most of you, I am always happy when winter has past, and this year is no exception. Spring came early this year, only a few days before Palm Sunday and the beginning of the Easter season. Spring and Easter are two great reminders of life triumphing over death, of beauty coming out of darkness, and of all that God has blessed us with. Now that Easter has passed and spring is here, it is time to be reminded that Jesus lives with us every day. I am reminded of the story in Luke 24 of the two men walking down the road to Emmaus following Jesus death. They apparently had not hung around long enough to learn of His resurrection, and as they walked Jesus came alongside of them and traveled with them. And as they walked and talked together they failed to recognize that the risen Savior was in their midst. How often do we do the same thing? We ride throughout the highways and byways enjoying the ride, enjoying the sunlight, the warmth, the fun and excitement, and all of Gods creation surrounding us, yet we fail to take notice that God is right there with us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:20, I am with you always. Not just on Sunday morning, or on Easter and Christmas. No, Jesus is there with us at all times. When we are enjoying a ride, He is with us. When we are relaxing at home, He is with us. When we are sitting alongside the road because our bike isnt running, He is with us. Jesus is with us always. Whether you are enjoying the best moments of life or facing disheartening news in a doctors office, you can be confident that He is there with you. Okay, maybe youre thinking that this article would have been more appropriate in last months issue as Easter was approaching, but Gods timing is not always our timing. And the Easter message was never intended to be a one Sunday a year event. We are to live out the message of Easter every day of our lives. Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. In doing so he paid the
price for our sins and provided a means for us to receive eternal salvation. So as you get out there on the road this spring just remember that wherever the road is taking you, always remember that the God of the universe is riding with you always. A farmer ordered a high-tech milking machine. Since the equipment arrived when his wife was out of town, he decided to test it on himself first. So, he inserted his manhood into the equipment, turned on the switch and everything else was automatic. Soon, he realized that the equipment provided him with much more pleasure than his wife did. When the fun was over, though, he quickly realized that he couldnt remove the instrument from his member. He read the manual but didnt find any useful information on how to disengage himself. He tried every button on the instrument, but still without success. Finally, he decided to call the suppliers Customer Service Hot Line with his cell phone Hello, I just bought a milking machine from your company. It works fantastic, but how do I remove it from the cows udder? Oh, dont worry, replied the customer service rep, The machine will release automatically once its collected two gallons. Have a nice day, now. When John and Mary first got married John said, I am a sex addict and Im putting a box under the bed to help control my addiction. You must promise never to look in it. In all their 30 years of marriage Mary never looked. However, curiosity got the best of her and she lifted the lid and peeked inside. In the box were 3 empty beer cans and $81,874.25 in cash. She closed the box and put it back under the bed. Now that she knew what was in the box, she was really curious as to how? That evening they were out for a special Anniversary dinner. However, since you are addicted to sex, I guess it does happen and I guess 3 times is not that bad considering your problem. John thanked her for being so understanding. They hugged and made their peace. A little while later Mary asked John, so why do you have all that
money in the box? John answered; Well, whenever the box filled up with empty cans, I took them to the recycling center and redeemed them for cash. A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Josephs Hospital. She meekly asked, Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing? The operator said, Ill be glad to help, dear. Whats the name and room number of the patient? The grandmother in her weak, tremulous voice said, Norma Findlay, Room 302. The operator replied, Let me put you on hold while I check with the nurses station for that room. After a few minutes the operator returned to the phone and said, I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is doing well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged later today. The grandmother said, Thank you. Thats wonderful. I was so worried. God bless you for the good news. The operator replied, Youre more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter? The grandmother said, No, Im Norma Findlay in Room 302. No one around this damn place will tell me jack-shit. A Preacher was explaining that he must move on to a larger congregation that will pay him more. There is a hush within the congregation. No one wanted him to leave. They adored their Preacher. Joe Smith, who owns several car dealerships in the City stands up and proclaims, .. If the Preacher stays, I will provide him with a new Cadillac every year, and his wife with a Honda mini-van to transport their children! and the Congregations children on Church outings. The congregation sighs in relief, and applauds. Sam Brown, a successful entrepreneur and investor, stands and says, If the Preacher will stay on here, Ill personally double his salary, and also establish a foundation to guarantee a college education for all his children! More Amens and loud applause. Sadie Jones, age 88, stands and announces with a smile, If the Preacher stays, .... I will give him sex! There is total silence and shock. The Preacher, blushing, asks her, Mrs. Jones, whatever possessed you to say that? Sadies 90 year old husband Jake is now trying to hide, holding his forehead with the palm of his hand, and shaking his head from side to side, while his wife replies, Well , I just asked my husband how we could help, and he said,......Ah, Hell, Screw him!

So you roll out of your favorite watering hole, everybody in the group fires off and heads out to the next stop. You hit the button, and it sounds like the blender running without anything in it! The good news is youre still in front of your favorite watering hole! Sure, all the old school kick start guys are pointing and laughing, but their turn will come. Before you run to your local shop and drop big bucks on a new starter, check this out.. Last month we talked about identifying bad connections and learned about voltage drops. So when we know that the integrity of everything upstream of the starter is good, there are still sub-components that can be repaired for far less expense than the starter motor as a whole. If youre hearing the blender without anything in it sound it is most certainly the starter drive at issue. This writing will refer to the Nippondenso starter found in 89 and later Big Twins and 81 and later Sportsters. Side note: Did ya ever notice the XL line almost always comes out with the good stuff first? Girls Bike hecklers be damned! The starter drive, also referred to as the Bendix (brand name moniker like Crescent Wrench), is responsible for locking in the starter to spin the works one direction while slipping in the opposite direction. This allows disengagement when the engine fires. A starter clutch of sorts, and actually another name for the component. When this goes south, the starter engages the ring gear on your clutch basket, via the jackshaft, and the sound of margaritas no ice occurs. Not to beat
a dead horse on nomenclature, but the starter drive could also be referred to as a sprag clutch. The device has a series of roller bearings, or something similar, that engage in one direction, and slip in the other. Sleepy yet? Grab a cup of coffee, it gets better. Replacing this guy is easy! A factory service manual is almost a must. Follow HDs procedure for starter

Spring Motorcycle Preparation Checklist

Spring has arrived and you are ready to jump on your bike and head out into the sunshine, but before you get revved up, take a few moments to get your bike prepared. Doing so will extend the life of your bike, and result in a safer ride for you and everyone else on the road. Youll only keep yourcheap motorcycle insurancepremiums by staying safe and accident free, so starting the season with your bike in peak condition is crucial. After a winter in storage, use this checklist to prepare your bike before you get back on the road: Tires and Wheels Inspect your wheels to ensure they are round (no flat spots), free from cracks and dents, and that there are no problems with the spokes. Check your tires for wear-and-tear, as well as bulges, cracks or any objects that may have become embedded in the tread. Run your hand along the tread they should feel uniform. Inconsistencies could indicate a problem with the tire. With temperature changes, rubber and metal expand at different rates, causing tires to lose air and need to be topped up in the spring. Get out your owners manual and find the optimal air pressure, or check the sidewalls of the tires it should be stamped into the rubber. Check to ensure each tire is properly inflated, and if not, adjust as necessary. Oil & Fluids Check the engine oil, gear oil, shaft drive, hydraulic fluid, coolant and fuel. Replace fluids that are degraded and top-up fluids that are running low. Fluids where the color, consistency or smell is considerably different than the new fluid you have is considered degraded and should be purged and replaced. Visually check to ensure there are no leaks, especially if you note fluid levels that are particularly low for no apparent reason the liquid had to go somewhere! Battery If your battery was removed for the winter, reinstall it. Check the connections on the terminals to ensure that the cables are connected tightly. Ensure terminals are free of dust, debris and corrosion, as that can cause poor and inconsistent electrical performance. Lights Inspect the lenses on the lights for cracks, and check that they are attached securely. Check the headlight and ensure it is aimed correctly. Make sure both the high and low beams work. Check the turn signals and brake lights for operation, and ensure they are clean and securely attached. Controls Lubricate all levers and pedals. Ensure they are not broken or bent. Inspect all cables for kinks, folds, or fraying. Test that your bikes cables do not interfere with steering. Check all hoses and look for problems indicated by cuts, cracks, bulges, or leaks. Make sure that the hoses do not get in the way of steering or suspension, and that there are no folds. Check the throttle to ensure it moves freely. Chassis Check the frame for any lifting paint, cracks, or dents, as this could indicate a structural concern. The front forks and rear shocks should be properly adjusted. Check the belt or chain for the proper tension. Add lubrication if required, and check that the teeth are mounted properly. Tighten all fasteners and replace if needed. Stand Check that stand(s) are not cracked or bent and they have enough tension to hold the bike in position. For most of these adjustments you can refer to your motorcycle owners manual, or purchase the shop manual from the manufacturer or dealer if youre mechanically inclined. If you are at all uncomfortable with doing a spring readiness check yourself then take it to a professional for a tune-up. This will ensure that your bike is road ready and as safe as possible. Since you havent ridden your bike all winter, most experienced riders recommend that you take some time to warm up to the bike again take it slow and practice maneuvering a little bit before you really hit the road. Making sure that youre prepared will help keep you safe. Keep in mind that if youve replaced your bike, taken some additional training, or made changes to safety equipment on your bike, you should advise your insurance company, as it may change your premiums. Lastly, put some extra cash in your pocket for riding season, take the opportunity to get some motorcycleinsurance quotes to make sure youre getting the best rates.

TOASTED BACON & EGGS OVER EASY SAMICH 7 Strips of Hickory Smoked Bacon 2 Slices of Potato Bread; lightly toasted 2 Eggs; Cooked Over-Easy in bacon drippings 1 Slice of White American Cheese (*optional) Good slather of real mayo; not cheap stuff. Substitute Miracle Whip if thats your preference. Lightly toast your potato bread, spread a thin amount of mayo on bottom piece of toast, then lay your bacon strips down vertically and if too long, just break off extra and place in middle of samich, next, add your over-easy eggs on top of bacon and poke them so the yolks break and all that creamy yolk is released. Add your cheese on top of eggs. Sprinkle a bit of parsley over entire samich, spread a good amount of mayo on top piece of toast and yum-yum it up. This is one of my top 4 samiches and Ive been making it for myself since I was 6 years old (but back then used Wonder bread); Potato bread is so much thicker and really toasts up crunchy for texture. GOOD OLE HOME-MADE REUBEN SAMICH 2 Slices of Marbled Rye Bread 1 1/4 lb. of Deli Pastrami; sliced thin 1 1/4 lb. of Deli Corn Beef; sliced thin 1 Tbls. of Spicy Deli Mustard 2 Slices of Quality Swiss Cheese 1 Good Slather of Quality Thousand Island Dressing Get a cast iron skillet good and hot on medium heat. Use I Cant Believe Its Not Butter margarine and spread both pieces of your Marble Rye bread generously and get up into the corners too. Take one piece in your hand and with fingers spread wide, hold bread with butter side down but on the top part spread Thousand Island dressing generously. While holding the bread, pile a good amount of pastrami on bread, then cover with a piece of Swiss Cheese then pile a good amount of Corn Beef on top of cheese, the 2nd piece of Swiss Cheese on top of that and then a really hefty slather of Thousand Island dressing all over top. Place top on sandwich and butter the top of generously and also throw a good size pat of margarine in the pan to melt down. When bottom of pan is well coated; gently glide your sandwich off your fingers and into skillet. Do not touch it or move it! It will only take apprx. 2 minutes to brown up crunchy, take a spatula and lift to make sure good and brown. Flip it and brown the other side. Serve up with a big long pickle spear and some chips. This also is one of my top 4 samiches.
HOME-MADE PHILLY-STYLE STEAK & CHEESE I rarely make these at home as theyre quite costly my way as my home-made version is made with Filet Mignon. So, we standardly go to Jersey Mikes. 2 Hoagie Style Rolls; fresh from Deli 2 Filet Mignon Steaks 1 & 1/2 Cups of Shredded Parmesan Cheese (or any cheese of your preference. Its your samich. 1 Ripe, Homegrown Tomato 2 Handfuls of Shredded Lettuce 1 Vidalia Onion; chopped and saute 1 Red, Green or Yellow Pepper, chopped & saute Or......all 3.go for it! Throw in some sliced mushrooms also Grill your steaks. Those stovetop grill skillets are great for this. Or use your indoor grill machine, whichever you prefer. Let cool 10 minutes when done cooking for juices to draw back into meat. Meanwhile, slather margarine on both sides of both Hoagie rolls. Cover them up well. Place under broiler and really keep an eye on them so they dont burn. Next, in your pre-heated medium high skillet, add your peppers, onions and mushrooms to saute up well. Salt & pepper to taste. Cut your Filet Mignon up into thin strips, but then chop the meat to a rough chop. After your saute mixture is smelling phenomenal, put in your steak chunks and add a few splashes of Worcestershire Sauce and mix well. Now, add your cheese and let it melt all down into skillet mixture. Cut down the center and take a spatula and take mixture over to crunchy, broiled buns. Arrange it where entire bottom of bun is covered up with the veggies and meat and melted cheese. Spread your shredded lettuce over top, then lay down 3 slices of rich, red, homegrown tomatoes on top of lettuce and salt & pepper them (add garlic powder also if want), slather top generously with mayo or your fave topping and bite baby bite. This is Heaven on a Hoagie roll. PEANUT BUTTER & MARSHMALLOW SAMICH 2 Slices of soft Wonder Bread or Blue Bunny Bread Bottom slice, generously spread with JIFF peanut butter. On top of the Jiff, spread really generously with Marshmallow Creme. Place the top over the bottom and seriously, you have to eat this with an ice-cold glass of whole milk. It is my comfort food samich of all times and I started making these for myself when I was 3 years old. And the best part.....totally simple.
