AND
STANLEY
H.KORNHAUSER, PH.D.
Dr.
Kornhauser:
lVhat
is electromagnetic radt afton?
Dr.
Brown
and
01:
Payne: Electromagneticfield radiation, or
EMF,
refers to certain types ofelectromagnetic fields surrounding
any
areawhere current
is
produced. Any device poweredby electricity (including batteries) will producevarying amounts of
EMF.
Computers, cellphones, appliances, autos, airplanes,
and
remote controls all produce
EMF.
Dr.
Kornhauser:
In the literature,
what
hasbeen reported as possible side effects to
EMF?
Dr.
Brown: Worldwide research has reported arange of reactions
to
exposure to
EMF.
In somestudies, no statistically significant effect wasnoted. In many other studies effects includedheadaches, fatigue, hormonal abnormalities, miscarriages, reduced immune system functionincluding several different types of cancer.
Dr.
Kornhauser:
lVhat do you notice in yourown practices?
Dr.
Brown: I notice
that
patients who workedlong hours
in
front of a computer monitorreport fatigue, headaches, and of stress
far
more frequently
than
the rest of my patientpopulation. In addition, my other chiropracticpatients who do
not
work around computersand other office eqUipment or cell phones seemto need treatments much
less
frequently.
Dr.
Payne: Many of
my
patients who spendfour consecutive hours or more at their com·puter complain of headaches
and
increaseddepression.
Dr.
Kornhauser:
Is there
any
known interven -tion to exposure to certain kinds
of
electro -magnetic fields?
Dr.
Brown
and
Dr.
Payne: Max von Laue wona Nobel
Prize
in Physics in 1914 by showing
that
x-rays could be reflected and redirectedwith a zinc-sulfide crystal
(ZnS),
in much thesame way
as
mirrors are used
to
reflect and redirect visible light. William
Bragg
won
the
NobelPrize
in
1915 for establishing "Bragg's
Law"
which determines the specific crystal spacing
(Le.
the
specific lattice spacing) needed toreflect and redirect any type of electromagneticenergy. Since then, scientists have used naturalcrystals to reflect
and
redirect other types ofelectromagnetic radiation (like gamma rays).

Modern science also has made extensive use
of
the
fact
that
different crystals "resonate"
at
different frequencies. The first short-wave radios
and
electric watches were made of quartz crystals, because quartz amplit1es
and
stabilizesonly certain
t1xed
frequencies
of
vibration.
For
the
same reason,
the
t1rst
lasers were made fromrubies.Dr. Kornhauser:
How was
the
BioElectricShield developed?
Dr.
Brown: Based on
the
principles just outlined,
I
designed several crystal matrixes with
the
hopes
thatone
of
them
would both stabilize
and
amplify
the human
frequency
by
resonating with
the
person wearing
the
matrix
of
crystals. Then, I hypothesized
that
if it did this,it would naturally reflect
and
redirect frequencies
that
were significantly different from
the
fixed frequency it would take
on
when it resonated with each person.Dr. Kornhauser:
How did you propose
to
test
its
effectiveness?
Dr.
Brown
and
D:r:
Payne: Many patients complain
of
fatigue after spending time
in
front ofa computer.The medical det1nition
of
fatigue
l:
"That state, following a period of mental or bodily activity, characterized
by
a lessened capacity for work
and
reduced efficiency of accomplishment, usually accompanied by a feeling of weariness, sleepiness,
or
irritability: may also supervenewhen, from
any
cause, energy expenditure outstrips restorative processes
and
may be confined to a single organ.
One
aspect
of
fatigue was selected for quantifying "less capacity for work" was measured
by
the Hoggan Microfet. This machine can measure muscle strength, one indication of musclework capacity. If
the
body was unaffected by
the
EMF,
muscle strength should
remain
unchanged. No normal person would lose anysignificant strength sitting in a chair for 10minutes,
the
length of time required to complete
the
testing situation.The main goa]
of
the
research was to observe
2
phenomena.
1.
Would work capacity be lessened
(as
measured by muscle strength) with exposure to ameasured source
of
EMF
(from a computer andcolor monitor)?
2.
Would
the
crystal matrix, i.e.,
the
BioElectricShield, alter work capacity back to normal
if
it
had
been weakened by
the
EMF
exposure'Dr. Kornhauser:
Could you describe the
studl
you have done with computer monitors?
Dr. Brown: Twenty-five subjects were testedunder three conditions:
no
exposure, normalsitting distance exposure for
5
minutes,
and
wearing
the
Shield
at
a normal sitting distancefor
5
additional minutes.
1)
First condition-
an
initial supraspinatusmuscle strength reading was taken withouta strong electromagnetic field. (The subjects were
12+
feet away from
the
comput
er.)
2) 
Second condition· each test subject sat infront
of
a computer
and
watched a 14"color monitor for 5 minutes. A second reading was taken.
3) 
Third condition-a BioElectric Shield
was
hung
around the
subject's neck
so
thatthe
Shield was positioned in
the
lower sternalregion, corresponding to
the
neurolymphatic pOint for
the
diaphragm2,
and the
acupuncture pOint, conception vessel 18'.After this was worn for 5 minutes, a thirdstrength reading
was
taken.
Dr.
Kornhauser:
lVhy did you choose thesupraspinatus muscle for testing strength?
Dr.
Brown
and
Dr.
Payne: The supraspinatusmuscle
was
chosen
as
the
indicator musclebecause this corresponds to
the
brain and thenervous system.
4
Because
the
brain monitorsand controls all other functions in
the
body,this was deemed to be
the
most relevant muscle/organ association.
G2,
or
patient initiatedmuscle testing was used because this involvespolysynaptic relays which include spinal cordrelays
as
well
as
higher brain centers.s A
five
minute interval was allowed between testing
so
muscle fatigue would
not
be a factor in reducedmuscle strengths.Dr. Kornhauser:

Dr.
Brown
and
Dr.
Payne:
A Hoggan
Compufet
transducer
with
computerizedrecording equipment was used to documenteach muscle strength reading. The Compufet, now
named
the
Microfet,
is
used
in
hospitalsall over
the
world to measure small changes instrength in patients
who
have injured muscles.The device
is
widely accepted by physicians
and
researchers for accuracy and reliability.Patients were

the
supraspinatus muscle. The BioElectric Shield increased musclestrength even in
the
presence of an

If
weare using muscle strength
as

the

the
effect of

A more general conclusion
is
that
exposure to

can
produce stress

fatigue incertain people. The Shield could negate much
of
these effects in certain people.
