Police Chief Finalists Announced

March 29, 2013 Five finalists from an outstanding national pool of candidates have been invited to Bainbridge Island on April 4th and 5th to interview for the Bainbridge Island Chief of Police position. The five finalists rose to the top of the 57 candidates who responded to the position recruitment. Candidates were narrowed down to a group of twelve who were invited to complete online interviews and submit written responses to twenty-two questions. Two candidates dropped out of the process prior to completion of the online interviews and written responses citing lack of time and acceptance of an interview for another position. The five finalists are: Richard Daniels, Lieutenant, Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Daniels has thirty-five years law enforcement experience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in PreLegal Studies and a Master of Public Administration from University of Southern California. He is a graduate of the United States Naval War College and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Mr. Daniels retired from the United States Coast Guard in the grade of Commander. Harry Glidden, District 2 Executive Officer, Aurora Police Department, Aurora, Colorado. Mr. Glidden has thirty-one years experience in law enforcement. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Management from National American University and a Masters of Business Administration from University of Phoenix. Richard Goerling, Lieutenant, Hillsboro Police Department, Hillsboro, OR. Mr. Goerling has seventeen years experience in law enforcement. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Portland State University and a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix. He is also a Commander in the United States Coast Guard. Matthew Hamner, Major Chiefs Executive Officer, Indianapolis Police Department, Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Hamner has twenty-three years experience in law enforcement. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Indiana University and a Maters of Criminal Justice and Public Safety from Indiana University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Bryce Johnson, Assistant Bureau Commander, Salt Lake City Police Department, Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Johnson is a veteran law enforcement officer with twenty years experience policing. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Utah State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University. The selection process will begin on Thursday, April 4th with series of meet & greets beginning at 4:30 p.m. with members of the Bainbridge Island Police Department followed by a reception open to the public from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. On Friday, April 5th, each candidate will be interviewed by four panels and City Manager Doug Schulze.
