Expert Group on Health Effects of Electromagnetic Fields

Thisreportwascompiledbyagroupoexpertsonelectromagneticelds(EMF).TheExpertGroupwasestablishedandundedbytheDepartmentoCommunications,MarineandNaturalResourceswiththeollowingtermsoreerence:1)TheExpertGroupwillocusonissuesopublicexposure,ratherthanexaminingoccupationalexposure.2)ThereportproducedbytheExpertGroupwillbeaimedattheGovernmentandthepublic,ratherthanthescienticcommunity.3)TheExpertGroupwillconsultwithIndustry,recognisednationalandinternationalexpertsandthewidercommunityinordertocompleteitsreport.4)Inuture,theExpertGroupmayberequestedtotakepartinsomeongoingmonitoring;inordertoupdatetheIrishGovernment’spositioninlightonewscienticpublicationsorreports.

Theonlyestablishedadversehealtheectassociatedwithmobilephoneuse,(bothhand-heldandhands-ree)isanincreaseintracaccidentswhentheyareusedwhiledriving.

RFeldsactonthehumanbodybyheatingtissue.

HealtheectsromRFarelimitedbyinternationalguidelinesonexposurelimits.RFeldsnormallyoundinourenvironmentdonotproduceanysignicantheating.Whilenon-thermalmechanismsoactionhavebeenobserved,nonehavebeenoundtohaveanyhealthconsequence.
