SSKE3 The student will explain how money is used to purchase goods and services. b. Identify various forms of U.S. money (coins, currency).
Understanding (s)/goals Students will understand: Coins have characteristics that make them different from other coins and that there are a variety of ways to exchange more coins for fewer coins. Essential Question(s): What are the characteristics of a pennynickeldime quarter? How many pennies makes a nickelnickels make a dime etc.

Student objectives (outcomes): Students will be able to: Identify a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Students will also be able to convert a given set of coins into other coins of the same value. Stage 2 Assessment Evidence Performance Task(s): Other Evidence: Coin Conversion Activity Pocket Change Podcast

Stage 3 Learning Plan Learning Activities: Students will view the Pocket Change Podcast as an introduction to lesson. Students will interact with the podcast singing the songs for each coin and answering the questions. After the podcast, students will be given different baggies of coins. Students will identify the coins in each bag. Students will then identify ways of making the same amount in each bag using a different combination of coins
