GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE SUBMISSION

By : Miguel Avila April 08 2013

Dear Committee Chair Mr. Paul Ainslie: I support your motion made today in connection with the initiative to live stream Standing Committee and Community Council Meeting. As a monitor of City Hall and Abcs meetings it would be a great tool asset to take down information while attending a meeting i.e : The T.T.C Commissioners, and listening in to a meeting happening at the same time at the Public Library. I will also add to the list , to include the Toronto Zoo Board of Management meetings The Zoo is far for most residents who dont have public transportation to attend their meetings mind you.

It is true, these meetings occur on week days during working hours it is difficult for a majority of residents to attend to ensure their interests are being represented. Enabling the Committees to be live streamed would encourage public participation in local government it also provides an opportunity to listen to public deputations, specifically during budget proceedings. In this regards the city had tree important meetings at the same time on March 27 2013 check the calendar for more information published by the City Clerk:

So in view of the above circumstances that happens from time to time, the motion passed today that reads : The Government Management Committee recommend that Toronto City Council authorize the Corporate Information Officer and the City Clerk to move forward to live stream all City Standing Committee meetings and Community Council meetings on the City's website by September 2013 Has my full support.

I will encourage my local councilor and others who favor this important initiative to continue engaging Torontonians who by particular reasons are unable to attend a city council sub-committee meeting or a,b,c agency board meetings. I have met Senior Torontonians that due to age related illness, are unable to attend regularly city hall meetings, I am sure they will be delighted to watch live the proceedings from their comfort and safe of their home. Yours Truly .
