y Historical Statistics: Historical Statistics Maddison Angus OECD Publishing, 31.10.2003 - 274 Seiten Following his The World Economy: a Millennial Perspective, Angus Maddison here offers a rare insight into the history and political influence of national accounts and national accounting. He demonstrates that such statistical data can shed light on the analysis of economic phenomena such as growth, market formation and income distribution. This approach is particularly interesting for developing countries often lacking the expertise or data to produce good national accounts. It also serves as a reminder for OECD countries that effective policy making depends on verifiable economic data. This book includes tables showing Maddisons estimates for the world and its major regions from as early as the year 1000. It is intended as a research guide for future comparisons of economic performance in space and time. It is for scholars and students of economics and economic history as well as for statisticians. Journal of Evolutionary Economics January 2000, Volume 10, Issue 1-2, pp 131-157 Capitalism, profits and innovation in the new techno-economic paradigm John Cantwell, Grazia D. Santangelo Abstract. Innovative profits (of the kind conceptualized by Schumpeter) are today being increasingly created through international corporate networks for technological development. Such profits through innovation are encouraged by newer more flexible organizational forms, and further encouraged (unlike in the conventional perspective on profits and on the incentive to innovate) by knowledge flows between firms. Our empirical evidence, based on US patent data, shows that multinational companies are currently more likely to develop abroad technologies which are less science-based, and less dependent upon tacit knowledge. However, within the science-based industries firms may generate abroad some technologies which are heavily dependent on tacit knowledge, but normally in fields that lie outside their own core technological competencies. We find some evidence of a convergence in corporate technological diversification across large firms, facilitated by the now common spread in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) as an integrator of formerly separate technological systems. This has led smaller firms to diversify, but giant firms to consolidate activity around those technologies that have become most interrelated. Journal of Evolutionary Economics 1991, Volume 1, Issue 2, pp 119-144 Techno-economic paradigms as typical interfaces between producers and users E.S. Andersen Abstract

In this paper it is suggested that techno-economic paradigms should not only be considered as means of coordination among the producers of technological knowledge but also as means of coordination between groups of producers and users of specific types of artefacts, as shared specifications of typical interfaces between the two parties. If such interfaces are simplified and standardized, the information needs of the parties will be delimited (and this is necessary in the worlds of bounded rationality la Simon and Hayek). However, successful product innovation will often presuppose an information-rich interaction and thereby often presuppose non-standardized interfaces. In the paper these two conflicting principles are developed in order to clarify several controversial issues within the theory of innovation and evolution. The construction of the techno-economic: networks vs. paradigms Green, Ken / Hull, Richard / McMeekin, Andrew / Walsh, Vivien, Research Policy, 28 (7), p.777-792, Sep 1999 doi:10.1016/S0048-7333(99)00021-9 Abstract This paper discusses the literature on `techno-economic networks' (TENs) and `technoeconomic paradigms' (TEPs). The object of study in both literatures is some form of combination of the `technical' and the `socio-economic'; the phrase `techno-economic' thus points to the need to see that the widest variety of `actors' may be of significance for particular innovations. The literature on TENs has focused mainly on describing the emergence and stabilisation of specific innovations; the literature on TEPs has focused more on the issues and problems arising from the diffusion of highly `pervasive' generic technologies. The two perspectives thus constitute different ends of a spectrum regarding the formulation of research and policy issues. The central concern of this paper is to illustrate that, by maintaining a focus on innovation and by shifting theoretical registers between the TEN and TEP perspectives, a number of issues emerge around what we call the `meso-level techno-economic': at the level of the nation, of national governments, of specific firms and organisations of particular scientific and technological disciplines, or of particular market arrangements and patterns of consumption. The paper explores some of the applications of the approaches to technological development in relation to the environment and constructive technology assessment (CTA); it concludes by presenting a possible framework for analysis of the meso-level. Technological revolutions and techno-economic paradigms [13K] Carlota Perez, Jan 2010 Abstract This paper locates the notion of technological revolutions in the neo-Schumpeterian effort to understand innovation and to identify the regularities, continuities and discontinuities in the process of innovation. It looks at the micro- and meso-foundations of the patterns observed in the evolution of technical change and at the interrelations with the context that shape the rhythm and direction of innovation. On this basis it defines technological revolutions, examines their structure and the role that they play in rejuvenating the whole economy through the application of the accompanying techno-economic paradigm. This over-arching meta-paradigm or shared best practice common sense is in turn defined and analysed in its components and its impact, including its influence on institutional and social change.
