To: Kim Powers <kpowers11@gmail.com>Cloudy Fish Tanks:(I'm going to take a guess and say his hair had something to do with it...)Hello Le Pops and welcome back to another edition of Pop! Goes the Culture. This week, I'd like to talk about mistaken identities. We've all had it happen before - someone on the street comes up toyou and asks if you're so-and-so (hopefully they get at least your gender correct), parents continually call you by your sibling's name (hopefully they also get at least your gender correct), but for the past month of so I've been involved in adifferent kind of mistaken identity - the mistaken e-mail address. It started off simple enough - I received an e-mail for The College Board telling me about SAT prep. I felt flattered, considering those college days are far behind me, and the most use my SAT prep book got back in the day was as aseat booster while driving my car. I figured it was from an old newsletter or server that I signed up for ages ago anddidn't think much of it.Then the following week, I received an e-mail from a college saying the following (I've hid the name of the College for fear of google search):
It was great to hear from you, Kaitlin. I hope you enjoyed your
Major Matcher eQuiz!

Academics/MajorsStudent LifeThanks for responding!
At that point, two thoughts were running through my mind: 1) Someone felt pressured by their parents/didn't want to giveout their real information and is now giving out my e-mail address or 2) Some poor, probably stressed out high schoolstudent is worried colleges won't take her because she hasn't received any e-mails yet, not realizing she put a typo onher forms.Regardless, I am super curious about Kaitlin (I can only assume her name is Kaitlin Powers.) The little information Iknow from e-mails I've been receiving is that she's a sophomore in High School and she's show an interest in Christiancolleges (for the record, I haven't tried to contact or fix the error, partially because I'm lazy and partially because I'mcurious.) But what type of person is she? What is she interested in studying? I can only assume that since she's asophomore and looking at colleges already that she's pretty ambitious and either her (or are parents) are serious abouteducation. Is it wrong that I am indirectly prying into another person's life? Probably. But then again, I wasn't the one whoput my e-mail address on the form/in the database/etc. I'm a mere internet bystander. Also before start I'd just like to wish a Happy Birthday to my Mommmmmmmm (I really spell Mom with all those extrams). So yeah, it's her birthday, yay, and she is more than likely a better dancer than you. Well, okay, maybe not better than this guy:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfLwRpz_MGUBut let's get started, shall we?

(this was the closest picture I could find that combined Michael Jackson with Picachu)1) Micachu & The Shapeshttp://www.myspace.com/micayomusicBesides Micachu being super talented and making fun, eclectic music, and besides featuring her and her band so I couldput up the picture above, the real reason I'm talking about Micachu is to talk about my friend Michael. As you all alreadyknow, Michael has amazing music taste (much better than my own) and not only that, but he has a knack for the ebb andflow of mixtapes. Ya know, actually putting the songs in a specific order instead of just making in the album inalphabetical order because I don't know who would do such a lazy thing...Anywho, Michael just sent out a mid-month double disc mix (try saying THAT five times fast!) and he said I can share itall with you. Yay! This is the quote he attached with the links: "The sun is brilliant in the sky but its warmth does not reachmy face. The breeze stirs the trees but leaves my hair unmoved. The cooling rain will feed the grass but will not slake mythirst. It is all inches away but further from me than my dreams."And here are the mixes: Download here:http://tinyurl.com/crbc3pTracklist (Disc One):http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1318/tracklist1.jpgTracklist (Disc Two):http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/3550/tracklist2.jpgOh, and Micachu? You really just have to listen to understand the type of music she makes.2) The Dutchess & The Dukehttp://www.myspace.com/thedutchessandthedukeDoes anyone else have the bad habit of mistaking band names and/or combining bands in your mind? Everytime I heardof The Dutchess & The Duke last year my mind immediately went to The Duke Spirit and I thought they were one in thesame. It's a shame I did that, though, because I was missing out on some good tunes. Consisting of Kimberly Morrisonand Jesse Lortz, I really like that these guys (purposely or not) stray away from the cutesy card that male/female duosoften encounter. There's some great bluesy undertones in their songs, and I like the way they select when to harmonizetheir vocals. On a side note, Hardly Art, their label (Sub Pop's "sister" label) has been kicking butt lately between these guys, LeLoup, and Arthur + Yu, they have a pretty strong roster right now.
