KING
Christ the King Mission Statement The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Brothers and sisters, A blessed Easter Season to all of you from our clergy, staff and me. We hope that the Lenten, Holy Week and Easter Sunday liturgies brought you closer to Christ. A note of thanks to my pastoral staff and clergy for their months of planning and hours of love put into making our prayer events the best possible. Thanks to our maintenance team Tony, Victor, Joe and Kevin for all the set ups and take downs and making everything shine for our family and guests. Thank you to our Ministry of Care Team coordinators Matt, Sharon and Deacon Peter for caring for our people at our retirement communities, health centers, hospitals. For all the ministers of care who brought the body of Christ during these liturgical seasons. The RCIA team who walked with our candidates for the Easter Sacraments. Kim and all the parish helpers who decorated the church so beautifully, the music community who brought us closer to God, liturgical ministers who reverently served at Mass. A note of gratitude to our CCW and Knights who brought us closer together through parish community building events. We are grateful for all our catechists of the R.E. program and Academy teachers who helped prepare the children for these life changing events in the life of the Church. We cant forget Fr. Bob, Deacons Frank, Peter and Wayne for all their dedication in assisting us with these prayer events. Most of all we are all grateful to Almighty God for all the graces and blessings we all have received. We thank the community of CTK for giving us this opportunity to serve you. Fr. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS: The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on April 21 is to fulfill the Lord's instruction to, Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life, in the particular sense of mission ad gentes. See www.vocations.com.
Caring for a loved one is a REAL job! Even though it is a loving task, it costs financially and emotionally. On average, the caregiver provides $200 per month to help support their loved one. In the current economy, this financial cost may weigh heavily. The caregiver may give up future plans, career advancement and leisure time. The emotional toll can also be heavy with things like other family members not pulling their weight and dealing with life long past relationships. Women are more frequently in the caregiver role and often have a difficult time asking for help. You are not a failure, a less loving friend, spouse or child nor weak if you are not able to cope with the stress. Remember, if you get ill there is no one to call on to care of your charge. Ask for help from someone with expertise in healthcare. Dear Care givers of CTK: Would you like to meet a couple times about the loving care you give to your family member? Please let me know. frpeter@ctklombard.org

Monday - April 15 CCW Meeting Plant a Mary Garden At 7:00 Pm in the Parish Life Center
Spring is here! The robins are back! The world is beginning to green-up. Take time to slow down and breathe in the new season. Many think that April is a good month to plan a garden. We do too! Join us at our April meeting and learn how you can plant a very special garden. The program for the April 15th meeting will be about Mary Gardens. It will be presented by Kathleen Roberts of Potted Petals in Lombard. Kathleen will tell us the history of the Mary Gardens and offer suggestions for planting your garden. Mary Gardens date back to middle ages when they were planted in convents and monasteries for flowers to adorn the altars. They also offered a quiet place where one could rest and pray. You will be encouraged to find a spot where you can plant such a garden even a tiny one for your window sill. Come to the meeting and be inspired.

We were very busy during Lent! The children focused on prayer, collecting coins for Catholic Relief Services and doing good deeds! Academy families received a bag filled with Lenten activities for developing faith with family, God and church. This journey to us all to the celebration of Easter! We were delighted to have a visit from Father Dennis. Father Dennis explained the similarities of St. Francis of Assisi and himself in how each are dressed and how each share their lives with others doing Gods work. Fr. Dennis taught us a beautiful song about how Gods love just bubbles me overwith hand motions which we loved! Fr. Dennis also talks about how we all can be saints when we listen and obey our teachers and parents. Fr. Dennis asked us to remember Gods love, Gods forgiveness and Gods healing. We hope that Christ the King Parish and our Academy families celebrate the JOY of the Easter season! We are now gearing up for spring weather and playing outside. We will have parent conferences and continue registration for the next school year. We currently have 30 students registered and have room in all classesdont wait till the last minute! Please call the school at 630-627-0640 to schedule a tour!

A Total-Stewardship Parish is Alive! It is a prayerful, welcoming, Eucharist-centered Community with a common vision: God Is the Source of All. Its members are committed to furthering the word and work of Christ by caring for each other and all of Gods creation. In gratitude, they joyfully give back a portion Of their God-given gifts of Time, Talent, and Treasure.
The twelve Apostles faced opposition and resistance as they preached the Gospel. Even after being ordered by Jewish authorities to stop, they continued teaching and preaching because they knew it was more important to obey God. Similarly, we will encounter opposition as we strive to follow Jesus through a life of Stewardship; but, we must not let it deter us.
