My Life’s Journey and what I learnt on the Way

Lately, now that I am on the doorstep to the end of my innings, one thought keeps on crossing my mind.When my time comes what will I be taking along withme and what shall I be leaving behind. Some of us Iknow for sure have had a better than most life.Certain opportunities that can be called special havecome our way and we have special reasons to rejoicefor it has brought not only happy experiences butalso wisdom and the knowledge of life that is notgiven to everybody.To all this, unfortunately, there is a rider. The morewe grow in our understanding of this universe and thepeople on this earth, the dourer we become. Theworld is filled with creatures of all hues and most of the shades are definitely not pleasant at all. Alongwith hope and affection there is also selfishness andtreachery. Let us take the universe as it is. We haveno argument on that for the simple reason that wesoon realize that there is very little that we can doabout it or that we really need to. If we can makethe most of our own lives, we have done our bit. Weintend to go within and create a barrier against theworld.This matter of doing our bit is what is bothering me. Ihave learnt much only because some kind teacherswent out of their way to take me under their wing. Icannot say that I imbibed all that they could havegiven and were ready to give but yet they made mylearning easier and speedier. Today I live in theconviction that I have something special and

hopefully I am doing well in applying all that I havelearnt in my life.This is the crux of the matter. If all these teachershad not come forth to help me on the way, howwould have I become what I am today? I know theworld is happy with itself and does not take kindly tointerference but I have also seen that every singleday and moment, opportunities present themselveswhen we can also assist by imparting a little of ourexperience. My observation is that all of us who havelearnt from this world and gained from the universe’shandouts and kindness must do so but we do not.We lock our wisdom within ourselves and sadly let itgo up in smoke when our bones are being reduced toashes. I think and advocate that we should be everready to waste a little of our time with deservinginstances and even people if and when we feel that alittle effort from us will go a long way in establishinga more balanced and positive environment. Let ustake every opportunity to be the teacher andspreader of good feelings and thoughts. Let us keepour doors open to every person and instance thatcomes to us in askance and needs us as a teacher orfriend. If we are afraid of being involved then it is amistake.My grouse is against all those who lock themselves upin anger, arrogance and impatience and silence. If wehave not passed on what all we have learnt, we havenot lived well at all!
