Scope o TNT’s 2008 corporateresponsibility reporting
For a ull description o the scope o this report and the assurance obtainedplease reer to chapter 11 ‘Scope o the report’.In summary this report covers the period rom 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2008 with TNT obtaining its corporate responsibility (CR) data rom internalmeasurement and rom external sources (third parties).The data is gathered using a questionnaire. All gures are based accordingly on the inormation provided by the Mail division, Express division, Innight (Other networks) and Group Head Oce (GHO). Figures are presented in a relativeway (using percentages and ratios) to make it possible or readers to monitor andmeasure progress year on year, unless the reporting protocol requires absolutegures to be disclosed. Figures related to CO
2
emissions are all extrapolated torefect the whole organisation, unless stated otherwise. TNT denes coverageas the number o ull time equivalents (FTEs) working in entities that report datadivided by the total number o FTEs per division. The data clarication table inAnnex 3 shows the coverage per indicator. TNT has taken all reasonable steps to ensure that the inormation in this report is accurate.This report includes only data rom entities that are ully-owned or majority-owned and rom those joint ventures where TNT has a controlling interest withrespect to corporate responsibility. For subcontractors, this report covers only road trac atal accidents, as well as absolute subcontractor CO

emissions,which are estimated. Whenever the report reers to the ‘major acquisitions’, this relates to theacquisitions o ARC India Private Ltd (Speedage) in 2006, and Huayu HengyeLogistics Company Limited (Hoau) and Expresso Mercúrio S.A. (Mercúrio),both o which were acquired in 2007.TNT has engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers Accountants N.V. (PwC) toprovide reasonable assurance on certain metrics and limited assurance on other metrics. This assurance work is perormed in accordance with the AssuranceStandard 3410N “Assurance Engagements Relating to Sustainability Reports”as drawn up by the proessional body o Dutch Accountants (Royal NIVRA)and in line with the 2003 AA1000 Assurance Standard (AA1000 AS) in so ar as the AA1000 AS goes beyond the requirements o Assurance Standard 3410N.Although the major acquisitions are included in the reporting scope o 2008,unless stated otherwise, the reported data rom these major acquisitions areexcluded rom PwC’s assurance scope. Owing to the recent acquisition dates, these entities are not yet suciently aligned to TNT’s systems. Obtainingassurance at this stage would thereore be unrealistic.Data marked with a triangle (
