Dear friends, It is a great achievement of our time that people with intellectual disabilities, like the rest of Europes population, are living longer than ever before. Older people with intellectual disabilities have essentially the same hopes as other people of their age: they want to live independently, maintain a good quality of life and be valued members of their communities. Achieving this remains a challenge for the person with an intellectual disability and a challenge to society. In later life, these challenges grow due to compelling needs associated with ageing and inevitable changes in personal circumstances. Continue reading

Programme
The 'Europe in Action' 2013 conference will: Analyse the phenomenon of ageing in relation to persons with intellectual disabilities. Present good practices in support of seniors with intellectual disabilities and their ageing families. Define the policies needed to ensure an appropriate quality of life for older persons with intellectual disabilities and their ageing families.
