Star of “Jersey Boys” has MJ connection

Frankie Valli and the
Four Seasons made some of
the most memorable music
in recent history, and their
story is told through the
upbeat and high-energy
and portraying one of the
main four is Steve Gouveia,
who recently spoke with the
Chronicle.
Gouviea is an original
member of the musical’s
cast and has been with
Jersey Boys since November
2004, when he was cast as
member of the Jersey Boys
cast on tour. Gouviea said
he had the chance to sing for
Frankie Valli and longtime
collaborator Bob Gaudio, in
San Diego a few years ago.
“Both Frankie and
Bob have been the driving
force behind the show,”

Man electrocuted in construction mishap

GLADEVILLE – A man who
was electrocuted shortly
after noon on Monday when
the lift he was operating
came in contact with a power
line has been identified.
J.C. Phillips, 41,
of Overton County, was
killed when the basket of
the lift machine he was
maneuvering into place
next to Gladeville United
Methodist Church touched
a power line. Phillips, who
was operating the crane,
and another man who was
inside the basket, were
subcontractors

Once she was at the

to Kris Gaston on Monday.
Upon finding out she had

sent via ambulance to
the Vanderbilt Children’s
Hospital Emergency Room.
After her MRI, the doctor
confirmed she had a two-
centimeter tumor on her

helped spare the unidentified
man inside the basket.
Phillips was
operating the crane, moving

it came into contact with
the power line, sending the
current down the arm of the
lift to where he was sitting
and then to a back tire to
the ground. Ashe said the
surge of electricity blew out
the back tire of the lift.
“It was a lot of voltage
in a split-second time,”
the sheriff said, adding he
understood the line was
carrying about 14,000 volts.

Cost to upgrade city 911 service rising IMMEDIATE OPENING

commissioners heard an
update on an ongoing
project to upgrade the city’s
emergency 911 server and,
like much else, it’s going to
cost more than originally
anticipated.

and Mt. Juliet Police Chief
Andy Garrett briefed the city
commission at Monday’s
meeting concerning the
potential updates to the 911
system, which would include
a VIPER CAD system such
as the City of Lebanon and
Wilson County authorities
now use. The VIPER system,
Garrett said, will allow
for faster response time
and information sharing,
response in a “real time”
mapping system which is
upgradeable, and the ability
to track cell phone calls as
well.
“That is especially
good if someone is in trouble
and can’t speak,” Garrett
noted. “We will know where
they are and where the
accident is even if they can’t
tell us.”
The current 911
system poses many
“challenges” which were
discussed before the agenda
items Monday night. City
leaders allocated $80,000 in
last year’s budget and have
funds from a Homeland
Security grant, but Robertson
said the upgrades, including
architecture and design
costs for a new dispatch
center, are now estimated to
be in the $150,000 range.
“We’re aggressively
searching for any grants
to help fund it,” Garrett
added.
City commissioners
unanimously approved the
allocation of $80,000 from
the budget’s General Fund
for the W. Division Greenway
project. Mt. Juliet recently
received, according to
Kelyon, $450,000 in Federal
Stimulus funds from the
State Municipal Planning
Office to be allocated for the
first phase of the greenway
project.

in Mt. Juliet.

be rezoned with tentative
thoughts for a auto or
marine dealership to be
located there.
Mt. Juliet Regional
Planning commissioners
approved a request to
remove the former Bobby
Hamilton Racing building,
located at 220 Industrial
Drive, from the Town Center
Overlay District and to give
a positive recommendation
on the rezoning of that
property from CTC to IR, but
not the IG zoning that Jere
McCulloch, the attorney
representing the property
owners, requested.
General, zoning supported
a manufacturing
establishment or “possible
auto sales or marine sales”
on the site. The zoning of
the property, according to
City officials, has never been
appropriate for the Town
Center District Overlay nor
the area of Mt. Juliet where
it is located.
Mt. Juliet City
Planner Lisa Keylon argued
that City staff recommended
IR as “a healthy compromise”
but couldn’t support IG
“because it would be a step
down.”

Mt. Juliet Elementary School Kindergarten registration for the
2009/2010 school year will be April 2 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
in the MJE gym. Requirements are: certified Birth Certificate,
Tennessee school immunization form, Tennessee health card,
Social Security Card (copy), current proof of residency, which
should include two of the following: utility bill (gas, electric,
water, or hook-up verification); copy of signed lease agreement
(including lease agreement), signed valid non-contingent real
estate sales contract; property tax statement; driver license
indicating current residence; voter registration; copy of recent
paycheck indicating name at the address used; custody papers
signed by the judge if parents are divorced/separated. There
will be a required 10 minute screening, so please bring your

Old Friend
The Young Driver
This article goes out to all the young drivers who feel they constantly hear their parents
preach about safe driving techniques and rules of the road. Trust me, we know how you feel.
Remember, we’ve been there and done that. So there is quite a bit of knowledge and experience
that goes along with getting older.
I It may seem at times that everything your parents say is nothing more than a conspiracy
to make your life dull, boring and difficult. But as I’ve mentioned before, your parents are much
smarter than you give them credit for. Parents are like ace detectives on a case. The only
difference in there case is that it involves no crime. There case is to investigate, learn and know
as much as possible about today’s teens and their habits in order to keep you safe. Trends
change like the seasons, but the one thing that never seems to change is life. Every teen goes
through a stage in life where they feel their parents know nothing and are completely out of touch
with current trends and issues. The old what do you know theory kicks in.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is apparent because of the difference in age
that teens and adults will normally not like the same music, clothes and so on. But what parents
have on teens is experience and you can’t buy experience. Experience and knowledge can only
be gained over time with life experiences.
So my appeal to all teens is to please just simply listen to your parents. Listen to the
words and wisdom of those who are trying to keep you from harm. These are the people who
love you more than life itself. You may not realize it, but no matter how big you get, you will
always be mom and dad’s little baby. Parents don’t view their kids any differently the older they
get. Parents are always parents and will always care and love you no matter what. They will
always want the best for you and worry about you constantly.
So to all the many teens and young people out there, please listen to your parents and
elders about driving and other life issues. People who truly care about you will never lead you
astray. Take their words to not only your hearts, but your minds, as well. Life can be tough, but
listening to those who have lots of experience could and will save you lots of heartache and
trouble, and might just save your life.
Listen, Watch and Learn. It’s your life to live. Please live it wisely!

kids ages 8 – 11 will start their egg
hunt at 12:00, with a presentation by
the Mt. Juliet Animal Shelter at 12:15
p.m. The Grand Finale will be at 12:30
