NEW MODEL PHILIPS LCDS
There have been a few whispers about the newmodel Philips LCDs for some time now. September 
is the month the new models nally arrive !!!
Philips have 3 markets for their TVs: Domestic,
Commercial and Hospitality. We will be involved inall 3, so I want to discuss the domestic panels rst.
Philips run a 3 tier approach in LCDs, much likewhat Panasonic does with the plasmas. The 5
Series represents the entry point, 7 Series beingmid level and the 9 Series being the ultimate.
Panasonic separate their 3 tier approach in part,
by country of manufacture. A basic Panasonic ismade in China (8A), mid level in Singapore (80A)and the high-end model in Japan (800A).
With Philips it’s not about where the panels is
manufactured - all the models are made in Europeand all of them have a 3 year warranty – butinstead, about raw performance. The higher-endmodels have more processing power, colours,contrast ratio, 100hz and faster refresh rates. After attending the CEDIA exhibition and seeing thePhilips alongside the big name LCD competitors,the Philips is extraordinary. Interestingly, whenyou account for the low power consumption andthe long warranty, I believe their panels could
well represent the best value in the market at the
moment. All the guys here seem to give the panelis big thumbs up.On the trade and commercial market many jobs
boil down to 2 points:
- Firstly, who represents the lowest overall cost(incorporating running costs) over the project life.
 
Typically contractors ask for say a 5 or 7 yr period- Secondly, minimal servicing requirements
The Lowest Overall Cost 
We analyzed a number of brands, but in mostsituations, while the Philips had initially thehighest upfront cost, over the project life, that
value was recouped.
I wouldn’t expect you to believe me, so I postedthe excel spreadsheet on the Radio Parts webpage (www.radioparts.com.au) relating to thePhilips commercial panels. I would encourage thatyou also run through the process. My nding were
that Philips represented the best value. 
Minimal Servicing Requirements
Philips has a reputation of reliability, but their service proposition is pretty amazing- Reliability is built upon a host of tests like theHighly Accelerated Life Test (HALT), stress,surge and ESD testing- They have a 24/7 product support teamto help out at any hour - The commercial warranty is a 2 year advanced exchange warranty- Training is offered for say hotel staff.- The is a Philips Certied Professional
