Note: The NASB uses boldface verse numbers toindicate new paragraphs. As part of our research for
 Did the TransfigurationFulfill Matt. 16:28?,
the table on the following pagewas prepared. We are not suggesting anything particular in thisdocument. It is being published only because weexpect it will be of interest to readers. We note the following observations:1.

All three gospel accounts are obviouslydescribing the same episode in the ministry of Jesus;2.

The accounts are remarkably similar (yellowhighlight);3.

They are also remarkably
dis
similar (otherthan yellow highlight);4.

A chapter break has been inserted after Mark 8:38 where no break occurs at correspondingpoints in the other accounts;5.

The NASB inserts a paragraph break atchapter 16:28. The Greek source text doesnot;6.

The NASB inserts a topic heading for thetransfiguration in Mark at a different pointfrom Matthew and Luke;7.

Matthew and Luke never agree on an item notin Mark, a phenomenon which some suggestindicates Markan priority.Matthew, Mark, and Luke are often compared inthree columns because they contain much similarmaterial. Such a comparison is referred to as a
synopsis.
The difficulties surrounding the similaritiesand differences among the
synoptic gospels
arecommonly referred to as the
synoptic problem.
Afascinating introductory study on this topic is foundin
The Synoptic Problem: A Way Through the Maze
 by Mark Goodacre.See page 2.
