Scott Driscoll MP Member for Redcliffe

MEDIA STATEMENT My priority is the people of Redcliffe. Ill always put Redcliffe first - Scott Driscoll MP Friday, 19 April 2013 Scott Driscoll MP, State Member for Redcliffe, has today announced that he has resigned his party political membership of the Liberal National Party and will be dedicating his full energies to serving the people of Redcliffe and his home town, from the Queensland Parliamentary Crossbenches. Mr Driscoll said he was just as passionate today about fighting for the best deal possible for the people of Redcliffe, as he was on the first day he was elected a year ago and he looked forward to an ongoing productive, constructive and professional working relationship with Newman Government moving forward. The actual seat I sit in while we are in the Parliamentary chamber is not nearly as important to me as the people of Redcliffe are. Im taking this decision today after talking to many of my fellow Redcliffe locals, firmly with the people of Redcliffe and our community at the very top of my priority list, said Mr Driscoll. I put my name forward at the state election in March last year because I want to serve the people of Redcliffe. When party political brand wars become the agenda of some, especially on the eve of what is already proving to be a very nasty federal election campaign being executed by certain people, I believe you must act to put your local people first and that is what Im doing. I want to see Premier Campbell Newman and the Queensland Government succeed in helping turn things around for our great state. Any decent and sensible person should have that same view and ambition if they entered Parliament for the right reasons. Thats why for me I will still be focused on the interests of the Redcliffe people as their Member of Parliament and working each day as their as their MP. Ill work with the Premier, with Ministers and with anyone else who is genuine and prepared to support Redcliffe and give Redcliffe people a fair go. Labor left our state in a total mess. Now all Labor seem to want to do is throw mud and attack people on a personal and family level. Smear and slander based on gossip and rumour is not a valid alternative to having a good policy platform and having an honourable intent to serve the Queensland community. I dont think they quite get that concept yet.

Im not going to let Team Labor plus a few other attention seekers get in my way of fighting for Redcliffe locals, all because Labors totally obsessed with attacking the LNP brand in any way they can, regardless of what is right or wrong. I dont do dummy spits and I dont turn my back on people when the going gets tough either. Thats not how I was raised and its not Ive operated in my life prior to entering politics a year ago. I respect the Parliamentary and Organisational Leaders of the Liberal National Party in Queensland. They have a job to get on with and so do I. No one needs distractions based around rubbish fuelled by party political agendas at a time Queensland needs serious solutions for serious long term problems. Weve heard various utter rubbish allegations that Ive basically exercised some sort of special Jedi Mind Control over people on private Boards that Ive never even sat on myself or had a razoo of power over, just so they would give my wife a job, or offer her company a contract to provide services, even before I was elected to Parliament. I mean fair dinkum, its pretty insulting stuff against a woman like my wife who is more than able to get herself a job on her own merits and has run her own successful businesses long before she ever met me. And weve been fed lines about some sort of secret Bat Cave type set up apparently operating in a secret wall cavity of my Redcliffe office with massive rivers of gold and diamonds basically flowing through to companies my family is linked to. And I supposedly sit their like Dr Evil and get confused between how many millions, billions or trillions are being made while stroking some hairless cat. Facts are that since I was sworn in as an MP, my wife, her company and other volunteers have provided all sorts of basic support for free, to a many groups and people in our community, including one small not for profit group that to tries to help out small family operated businesses. My wife as a private Queensland citizen has also worked a part time job for a local Charity for a few months, while she also ran her own business from her own office and also managed to do volunteer work in our community. Facts are facts. Im getting on with my job for the people of Redcliffe, said Mr Driscoll. ENDS.
