Fade IN EXT. SCHOOL PLAYGROUND-DAYCarl is 8 years oldThere are a group of kids standing aroundwatching him in a fight. Voice over (Carl)This is me. I used to get beat up all the time. I was consideredthe little boy to pick on. I was always being called a homo or fag.I didn't like that, so to prove I wasn't I would fight. I wasn't anygood at fighting as you can see, but I would try.EXT. DIFFERENT SCHOOL PLAYGROUND-DAYCarl is now 10 and there are kids standing around watchinghim in a fight.Voice Over (Carl)Look at me now two years later. You would think I wouldhave learned how to fight by now. I think I got my ass kickedtwice by this guy. He told a girl that I was a fag because I hadno brothers and six sisters. To tell you the truth I really didn'tknow what a homo or fag was. All I knew was that when Iwas called this everybody laughed. I didn't like being laughedat.INT. Kids are pointing and laughing.Voice Over (Carl)This is Mark, he is wearing that helmet because hewould get seizures and bump his head on the floor. Thehelmet would prevent him from cracking his skull. Kidspicked on him all the time. They threw things at him,pushed him around and laughed at him. Children canbe so cruel. a person could get use to. What he did care about wasthat he didn't have a way of defending himself. Mark was 10.EXT. MARK'S MOTHERS HOUSE-DAY Mark watching his brother Louis talking tofive police officers.Voice Over (Carl)This is Mark's brother Louis. This is Louis talkingto the police. This is also Louis on his way back toprison for the second time. This time, Strong ArmRobbery. As you can see he is not going to go peacefully.There is a reason they brought five cops to pick up oneman. Louis is one of the toughest dudes in the city. Healways said "In a fare fight there is no one man orsometimes even two who could take him out''. Mark is just standing there looking at him. You see that look of his face. He’s not upset that his brother was going back to prison. Louis would tell Mark that going to jail ispart of the game in what he does. What Louis did wassteal. Steal and rob. That look on Mark's face ishappiness that Louis is beating the shit out of five cops.They will get him, but never without a fight. This isMark's biggest conquest is to be feared and respectedlike Louis.GARY, INDIANA 1971INT.CLASSROOM -DAYCarl is sitting at his desk before class starts. Carl is 15 nowAnd in high school .He is watching a girl playing with her hair.There are a bunch of kids talking and playing before theteacher comes into the room.Carl noticed girls (Michelle and Robin) teasing thisfat girl (Donna) about her clothes. MichelleWhere do you buy your clothes? They look like mygrandmother’s curtains.
