10:00-10:30 Read Aloud: Thank You, World by Alice McGinty and Wendy Halperin Introduce unit with KWL as a class on chart paper: ongoing and posted in room. Explain and assign Homework: to go home an talk with their parents about where their parents grew up, the land, the weather, what their parents did (worksheet provided)

Tuesday 3/19
10:00-10:30 Partner work(prepaired): exchange ideas from conversation with parents. Share out: partner shares an interesting thing their partner shared (model) Generate class list (will be divided by nation) Decide what countries we will study in addition to United States (China, Cambodia, Mexico)

Wednesday 3/20
10:00-10:30 Natural Resources Read Aloud: Charlie Needs a Cloak by Tomie dePaola Brainstorm session: what are examples of natural resources Create class definition of natural resource Divide into research teams, each team will focus on a country: U.S., China, Cambodia, Mexico.

Thursday 3/21
10:00-10:30 Natural Resources Work in research teams to find the most important natural resources for the country of study. (information provided for students to look through) In research teams, create poster with pictures and captions to share natural resources research with the class.

Friday 3/22
10:00-10:30 Climate Refer to parent reports (on poster)to introduce climate and weather of our nations of study. Use projector to show climatic maps of each of the countries. Practice reading maps. Vocab: new climate words introduced, matching game

11:30-12:30 Add to KWL chart Introduce and begin temperature tables. (1 week) Using the internet, I will take groups aside each day to look up the weather in their country. Group will record weather in table format.

Monday 4/1
10:00-10:30 Geography Read Aloud: Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest by Steve Jenkins Begin working in research teams to fill in topographical maps (provide outline). Students will look through prepared information

Tuesday 4/2
10:00-10:30 Homes In groups finish topographical maps. Use powerpoint to show slideshow of typical homes found in the 4 countries. Follow up worksheet with a partner where students sketch homes and offer a sentence about why you can find that home in that area.

Wednesday 4/3
10:00-10:30 Jobs The work that people do depends on where they live. Refer back to parent conversations recorded on poster. Refer back to natural resources and connect with powerpoint about typical workers and jobs in these countries.

Thursday 4/4
10:00-10:30 Natural Hazards Use National Geographic Website to show examples of extreme weather. In research teams, have groups discuss what extreme weather they think their countries might experience. Introduce writing project: each student will create a page for a class social studies textbook that my teacher will use next year.

Friday 4/5
10:00-10:30 Wrap Up Groups present finished topographical maps, includes drawings and descriptions of a typical home and job. Continue work on page for social studies textbook.

11:15-12:30 Compile class Social Studies booklet Each Child shares their favorite part of the past 2 weeks/ reads from their page Add one last time to KWL
