A significant step in the right direction

The Lehigh Valley Partnership, an organization consisting of the chief executives of the regions major employers, fully support the Lehigh County Authoritys successful $220 million bid to operate Allentowns water system. In addition to enabling Allentown to move toward solving its pension crisis, the new arrangement is a significant step toward what could be the beginning of a broader consolidation of the Lehigh Valleys 41 water systems, consolidations that could save the average residential water user nearly $400 a year. The agreement also expands the Lehigh County Authoritys water capacity, a key element in continued economic development and job creation in Lehigh County. The members of the Lehigh Valley Partnership are committed to a bright future for our region and we are convinced that this historic transaction will pay dividends for years to come. We urge Allentown City Council to approve this agreement and keep this process moving forward.
