Mother’s Day Poetry
Mother Mother Mother Mother Mother ’s Day ’s Day ’s Day ’s Day ’s Day poetry has five stanzas. Each stanza describes a different feeling or part of thesubject’s life. It concludes with a special wish or final remark. The rhyme pattern is ABCB.My mom is really wonderfulShe is good to me.She helps me with my homework and is as nice as can be.Whatever she does,She does it right. When I ask her to helpShe can because she’s bright.I know she gets mad at meWhen I don’t clean my room. She goes to the closet and comes back with the vacuum. She always nags on me To play with my brother. She doesn’t understandHe’s just a bother. My mom she gets real mean Just like a mother But that doesn’t bother me’Cause I still love her!HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Brainstorm and list the different areas of their mothers’ lives about which students might write (family life, work, talents, attitudes, values, goals, dreams, favorite things, humoroustraits). Encourage students to use variety in the ideas they choose to express as well as thedescriptive language they use. The same pattern can be used for other people on special days such as Father’s Day,Grandparent’s Day, or a birthday.
Mother is introduced and described.Describe a part of Mother’s life.Write about a different part of Mother’s life.Describe a third part of Mother’s life.Finish the poem with words of love!
