Rainfall during Q1 in the U.S. corn belt region was the best in five years which is good news for the corn crop. Still, the near term downside price risk for corn may be small.

Beef output last week rose 1.9% but was 6% larger than last year.Still, year-to-date beef production is running 1.9% below '12. The USDA is forecastingQ2 beef output to be 2.6% less than '12 which may support the beef markets. Pent upgrilling demand due to inclement weather this spring could also put upward pressure onbeef prices. The choice ribeye market usually moves 3.1% higher during the next twoweeks. However, any pending beef market increases may be short lived due to agenerally financially challenged consumer. U.S. retail beef prices in Mar were up 2.7%versus a last year and a record high.
Price USDA, FOB per pound.
