Description

Dr. Golden's proposed changes for the Michigan Constitution in 2010.

The most important change is the "Golden Legal Oversight Amendment" which will create an independently elected board to police the Michigan legal system instead of the Michigan Supreme Court.

Another important change will require that the majority of all regulating boards be composed of individuals who are not members of the group that the board regulates. The exact opposite is currently stated in the Michigan Constitution.

Voters will be asked if incumbent judges who run unopposed should be retained instead of giving them a free pass to another full term as is presently the case with the current Constitution.

A unicameral one house legislature is proposed with 55 members instead of the current 110 and 38 member houses.

The "Golden Legal Oversight Amendment" is a wonderful idea whose time has come. Attorneys should not police themselves. Michigan will be a political leader if it adopts the "Golden Legal Oversight Amendment".
