Lovely Rita has become an iconthrough the Beatles song. O course,Rita was in charge o the parkingmeters in that story. I can alsoremember one or the other Ritathat came once a year on behal o the utility company to read thewater, gas and electrical powermeters. Even at that time I thoughtthis was very old-ashioned.In the age o electrical systemswhich monitor and control systems,the practice at the end o the yearby many utility companies appearsto be rom the Stone Age. Thereis a Rita coming to the house toread o the meter and to recordthe gures into a list. This list isthen transerred by hand into theutility company’s computer and isprocessed or billing.This is also a way o transerringdata – but not a very modern way.The consumption data measure-ment with KNX is indispensable.This is the only way or the end userto monitor his energy consumptiondata and to control loads based onavailable taris over the bus system.The technology is called Smartmetering. KNX is a step ahead withthe integration o this applicationinto the home and building systemtechnology.Monitoring, Controlling – this iswhat we do, this is what we aregood at and this is where we aresmart. The right products give theedge over the competition.Some o the KNX members haverecognized this and have developedrst KNX Smart Metering productswhich are now on the market. Someo these products will be coveredin this issue.This will put Rita as data collectorout o a job. Diese Listewird dann beim Versorger wiederhändisch in den Computer über-tragen, um dann zu einer Rechnungverarbeitet zu werden. Auch eineArt von Datenübertragung – aberkaum zeitgemäß.Die Verbrauchsdatenerassung mitKNX ist unverzichtbar. Nur so kannman seinen Energiebedar jederzeiterkennen und über den Bus bein-fussen oder tariabhängig schaltenlassen? Die Technologie heißt Smartmetering. Auch hier hat KNX mit derIntegration dieser Anwendung in dieHaus- und Gebäudesystemtechnik die Nase vorn.Überwachen, Regeln – das ist unserMetier da sind wir gut, da sind wirsmart. Und mit den passenden Pro-dukten dazu ist man einen Schrittvoraus.
