Girls comments on how its not fair, they mostly show bad ones. Why we were laughing at the contestants, and the fact that we were laughing at the person. Comparing the bad contestents with good ones. Comparing last ladies hair with good contestants. Do you think that is why you were laughing? Do you think that is right? "The person at the end must have felt really insulted" Where on the "ideal" scale different contestants fall. Why they show different kinds of people or not. Presenter: "Even though its reality tv its not representing realistic people but the extreme ends of the 'ideal' scale" "the media doesn't associate people that look like that to have a good singing voice" is it right? Weird when someone with good look but bad voice. Strange how we associate the two together. Main characters wearing glamourous clothes and well dressed. Discussion on maid character in comparison to others, the messages it gives off and whether it is a good or bad thing. We are trying to get across that we can't let these messages spill over into our real lives. Aspects of main character in Bridesmaids. Being thin and skinny doesn't mean you will be successful. Themes in the Example music video. Negative change in Fiji because they were happy and then US interfered. Why we watch tv and film. Writing down reason and explaining it further. Students watching x-factor auditions - laughter. How contestents were represented and whether it is fair. Why we were laughing at the contestants, and the fact that we were laughing at the person. Comparing the bad contestents with good ones (hair), whether we think that is right. Why they show different kinds of people or not. "the media doesn't associate people that look like that to have a good singing voice" is it right? Comments on the way media makes us come to have expectations for people with different looks and why that is. Discussion on maid character in comparison to others, the messages it gives off and whether it is a good or bad thing. "People don't care about whats on the inside, just the outside" "He didn't really care abour her personality" Aspects of main character [and comical one] in Bridesmaids. Bigger character can't where as nice a dress as others. You don't have to be skinny to be successful. Good point on needing to look good to be a model. It's not just fat people but skinny too. Themes in the Example music video. How all the ideal characters link in Example video subtly. Negative change in Fiji because they were happy and then US interfered. Good side on shot of students enjoying and laughing at auditions. Really stereotypical. Good point that its not a good thing, but tv would be boring without the extremes always being used. How main characters were depicted, and the odd one out (the maid). Their thoughts on what messages this gives off. Same as above. It's the subconscious, you don't notice it. Same as above. Students notice what changed about her but failed to realise her personality is something that didn't change. Same as above. What qualities were associated with different characters.

Which character would you say is the comical one? Have you ever really noticed this is the way it is divided up? Same as above. Description of ideals in music video. Girl describes difference between mainstream and other music. Same as above. "you're only going to get a boyfriend if you are pretty." Interesting discussion on what is healthy/beauty. All agree it was a negative change in Fiji. Same as above. Good summary of what we did in the workshop. How different characters are represented. Thoughts on that. Talks about how nasty the splitting into groups is. What tv and film makes out about different people. Looks back at Fiji and how it went wrong. "they take the mick out of fat people, skinny is the best choice." Main characters are skinny and nice clothes. Comical characters are fat. "its not really that fair" Describing what we done in the workshop and what to think. "I hadn't really noticed it" Have I been subconciously been picking it up? "Don't take everything away into real life." Fat people are potrayed as funny, I didn't really notice it before. "I don't think its too bad, but its a bit horrible that they instantly potrayed them as the funny character" "Main characters are all media's idea of perfect" People that are successful don't have to look sexy they're just rich" Didn't realise how they potrayed different people as different things "You have to be perfect to get anywhere" - Its not true because no one is really like that in real life. "if you're skinny you're more likely to be idealised" and opposite. Admitting that maybe ignorance leads to subtle effects. "Its not all about making money, its about entertaining people."
