Gorgeous Geek Chapter 14: Teen Drama at the Mall

Chapter 14: Teen Drama at the Mall

Tennis meeting! cried the overly hyper Eunice like always, running and bumping into both Tiffany and Jennifer in the back. The other two girls shushed her. What's going on? Why are they holding a meeting? The volleyball and basketball teams are holding a meeting too, said Tiffany, checking her black notebook. It's that time of year when the teams have to try to get their paperwork in before the fall season starts. I'm glad I'm not on a sports team, said Jennifer, clapping her hands happily. Well? asked Tiffany in her usual manner. Who wants to take which team? I'll take basketball, said Jennifer quickly with sparkling eyes and tapping her heart with her right hand dramatically. I want to see my worthy rated ten Jordan Greene. Go on then, said Tiffany, sighing. After Jennifer skipped away with her ponytail flying behind her and her new emerald-colored purse swinging, Tiffany glanced over at the hyper girl who was pointing out at people she recognized on the tennis team. Tiffany noticed that Jezebelle wasn't here yet. Actually, less than half the team was here early anyway. Eunice tapped Tiffany on the shoulder and beamed at the older girl. You want to watch the tennis team right Tiffy? asked Eunice sweetly. No, I actually want to see the volleyball team, said Tiffany quickly, a bit uneasy. But Tiffy- I'm off then, said Tiffany quickly, picking up her bag of clothes she bought earlier and leaving the Jumbo Juice area. She had to bump into someone- the person she wanted to see least. Oh my God. Are you kidding me? No, bitch, said Jezebelle, amused. That's my line. You are still the same as ever, said Tiffany, unaffected by Jezebelle's words. Spying isn't good for you, said Jezebelle, winking playfully. Tiffy is part of the Hitching Post, said Eunice dramatically, hopping up and down. It is her job as Chief Editor to write for the newspaper in regards to the team! I am just about to leave anyway, said Tiffany, passing by Jezebelle. Eunice, follow me. You have to take pictures of the volleyball team. What about the tennis team? asked Eunice with wide eyes. Tiffany smiled and pointed at a spiky-haired male sitting next to Venus. The male was drinking juice and checking the area as if looking for someone. In front of him, he had a notepad ready. David Shin was next to his other side with a pale face. Grim's working on it, said Tiffany with a satisfied look. More like to stare at Roselle's face, said Eunice, sticking out her tongue. As long as he stays focus, he can do whatever he wants, said Tiffany as the two Asian Gossip Girls left for the volleyball team meeting at Panda Express in the same mall. However, the two girls' conversation didn't go unnoticed by Jezebelle who eyed after them with a lifted brow. Tapping a finger against her chin, Jezebelle hardly noticed Jin as he ran over with a two smoothies in hand. Jezebelle automatically took her strawberry one and thought about it for a second. What's wrong Fi? asked Jin worriedly. Roselle, said Jezebelle, repeating the name. Why does her name sound so

familiar? I've heard it somewhere before. She's on the girl's tennis team, said Jin quickly with a smile. Oh, said Jezebelle in realization. And who's Grim? Grim? repeated Jin with wide eyes. He's a senior. He's on Doubles Two on Varsity Boys Tennis Team. I don't talk to him much but I help him out a lot of times with storing the tennis balls and cleaning the team ice cooler. So he has a crush on Roselle? asked Jezebelle, running through the conversation in her head. Everyone knows that, said Jin with a laugh. It's his main reason for joining the tennis team sophomore year. Talk about obsessed, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes. Does she know? Everyone except Roselle herself, said Jin as an afterthought. Oh really, said Jezebelle with an evil smirk. I know that look, said Jin, raising his brows at her. What are you up to Fi? Oh nothing, said Jezebelle with an innocent giggle. He's important in that Hitching Post newspaper right? He's the Humor Editor, said Jin suspiciously. He's in charge of the Humor Column. What a valuable editor, said Jezebelle, pleased. He writes satire mostly, said Jin with a firm nod. Interesting, said Jezebelle, playing with her hair around her finger. Er... Fi... said Jin, leaning toward her with a cautious expression. You are not planning anything evil that will help your takeover the school plans are you? Do I look like someone who can plan something so evil? asked Jezebelle innocently. No but- Oh look, said Jezebelle gleefully, pointing at the sight of three girls on the tennis team pulling Roselle by the arm toward the Jumbo Juice seating section. Isn't that Roselle? This must be my lucky day! There she goes again, said Jin, chasing after Jezebelle now. Like the sight implied, Roselle was trying to run away but three of her teammates were keeping her from escaping. Yvette, Venus, and Tasha were dragging Roselle inch by inch toward the designated tennis table. The obsessive writer tried her hardest to not submit to them but failed miserably. You people are all meanies, said Roselle in a wailing voice. You promised me yam candy! You lied! I don't like liars! I'm sorry, Roselle my love, said Venus, smiling innocently. We have to say something for you to come to this important tennis meeting. Come on, said Tasha, pouting. You're always ditching meetings anyways! You are the worst member of this team and you're only proving that by leaving, said Yvette sternly, glaring at the half Native American girl. Fine, said Roselle, picking up the speed and trying to run. I'm the worst member of the team! You can kick me off the team if you want! I want to go home and type! You people are eating up my typing time! One, said Yvette. Two, said Venus. Three! sang Tasha. The three girls managed to force Roselle into a seat across from David and Grim. Roselle tried to stand up but was surrounded on all sides by the other members of the girls' team with glaring eyes. Roselle pouted and started crying out about them being meanies.

Here, said Jezebelle suddenly, forcing her way through and handing Roselle a tiny box. This is what you want right? Yam candy, said Roselle happily, hugging the box to her cheek. Thank you... Jezebelle Tilly, said Jezebelle quickly with a smile. Thanks Jezebelle! said Roselle, opening the box and throwing some in her mouth. Everyone watched her finished it within a few seconds. Hi everyone! Where did you get that? asked Jin suspiciously, coming up to Jezebelle. Somewhere, meatloaf, said Jezebelle, tossing him a cute smile. Now that everyone is here, said Yvette, placing a firm hand on Roselle's shoulder to keep her in place. I'll have the Junior Varsity girls get us the drinks from Jumbo Juice. Hai, said Xuan Lan happily from the other table with her hand in salute. She was carrying a stuffed elephant. Understood, Miss Team Captain! Ready to order! Lolita's so cute, said Jin, mesmerized by Xuan Lan in a woolly turtle-neck shirt. Watching Xuan Lan skipped off while humming Jingle Bells, Jin felt like his love for young girls have grown ten times by seeing her outside of school. In the meantime though, the other tennis girls were eying Jezebelle with dismay. Jezebelle caught on quickly and placed her hands on her hips. What? Too sexy for your eyes? asked Jezebelle, lifting a brow. Girls shouldn't wear such revealing clothes, said Yvette, irked. So what? asked Jezebelle, shrugging. She pointed at her top that covered half of her upper body and formed a heart shape over her chest. I have to wear it. Honey bear bought it for me for our five-day anniversary. It's a crime not to wear it. Jin heard what she said. Eh? I never knew Jin have such tastes in clothes, said Tasha in awe. The Filipino girl reddened dramatically and looked down at her simple t-shirt with a poodle on it. Should I go shopping after this? What about Tinker Bell's expensive dog food? Like Tasha, the other girls started muttering among themselves about changing their wardrobes and changing the tennis uniform. Jin sighed and sat down on the other side of Roselle, who was now happy and hyper. Immediately, Jezebelle claimed a seat on top of Jin's lap without his permission. Jin didn't care though. Jin, said David, shaking his head at Jin. I never knew. I never knew either, said Jin miserably. You're so sweet, Jin, said Roselle with wide eyes. Doesn't she weigh you down? No, said Jin, dropping his head. I don't feel a thing. Fi doesn't weigh much. He even gives her a pet name, said Roselle in awe. I want a boyfriend who gives me a cute pet name and lets me sit on his lap. You don't say, said Grim, listening intently to Roselle's words. Club President! cried Roselle, noticing Grim across the table. You're here! Does she always call you 'Club President'? whispered David to Grim. She does, said Grim sadly. Then, to Roselle, Grim smiled. Hello Roselle. Did you read my latest chapter? asked Roselle excitedly, rising higher on her seat. What did you think of the characterization? The dialogue? The description? The word count? Did you even count how many words there are? Does she always start a conversation like this? asked David under his breath. She does... Looking around, Jin noticed a certain teammate was missing. The blonde boy that should have talked to him by now was nowhere in sight. Patrick, who sat on the end of the table, seemed to have noticed that Jin was searching and smiled broadly.

Jordan's not here, said Patrick, snapping his fingers. Where is he? asked Jin, almost shyly. The whole team is here. He's at the basketball meeting, said David, pulling his eyes away from the Roselle and Grim conversation long enough to reply. They're meeting near Starbucks. Fun, said Jezebelle suddenly with a devious smile. Wendy's there too. Oh boy, said Jin, sighing. Very fun indeed. Right then, Xuan Lan skipped over with a tray of Jumbo Juice drinks while humming to Vivaldi's Winter. Seeing Jin, Xuan Lan waved before she was surrounded by her tennis teammates. The girls grabbed their drinks and gave Xuan Lan the money. Jezebelle was the last one to take her drink off the tray. Xuan Lan beamed at her and tackled her into a friendly hug. As usual, Jezebelle was not pleased but she didn't say anything. Right when Jezebelle sat down, Yvette stood up with her hands on her hips. Tennis meetings outside of school is nice isn't it? asked Yvette, twirling a pink ribbon around her finger. We finally have time to properly introduce ourselves and get to know each other better. I have no tolerance for jokes so everyone better be serious. Did I mention I hate her? asked Jezebelle to Jin who shrugged. Your girlfriend is the same as ever, David, said Grim, adjusting his glasses. She's not my girlfriend, said David, grumbling under his breath. David, said Yvette with a cute smile. Can you please hand out the forms? You're supposed to ignore her, remember? asked Grim, nudging David. The Korean boy was about to stand up in obedience. Remember? No, said David in a deadly cold voice. He sat back down. Yvette lifted a brow. Both Jezebelle and Jin saw the physical effort on her face to hold back from lashing out her emotions on David for his sudden disobedience. Jin didn't get it. David usually obeyed whatever Yvette told him to do. They were good friends and knew each other for a long time. A lot of people called David Yvette's obedient man slave behind his back. Even a new student like Jezebelle probably heard about it. I'll do it, said Jin happily, raising his hand. I'm the Team Manager after all. Thank you, Jin, said Yvette, whipping her pigtails back. Stay strong David, said Grim, placing his hand on David's shoulder. David looked like he was going to faint. Yes... I must stay on strike... ******************************************* In the meantime, the other four members of the original group were off wandering the mall in almost complete silence. Rin and Kristian were walking on opposite ends of the line. Bo and Vance were in the middle, exchanging glances. The gloomy atmosphere between the two Japanese was scary. Almost too scary. So how about that driving eh? asked B with a cheerful grin. Good job Kristian! I felt like I died three times in a row! Thanks, said Kristian, keeping his eyes on the ground and his hands in his pockets. That was a lovely compliment, said Vance sarcastically. He likes it, said Bo, chuckling. Neither Rin nor Kristian said anything. How about that nightgown Hamada-sama? Isn't that your favorite blue one from last night? No, said Rin, keeping her eyes on the stores instead of her friends. Harsh crowd, said Bo, rubbing his head. Oh look there Hamada-sama! Kristian! Bo pointed at a group of girls passing by. Shouldn't you do something about your ass Hamada-sama? How are you supposed to satisfy either Kristian or I? Like I need to satisfy the pervert, said Rin bitterly. Are you talking about me? asked Bo, pointing at himself. Rin shook her head

fiercely. For once, she's not talking about me. Has the world come to an end? You mention ass, said Vance quietly. And Shiratori didn't even move his head. My tactics must be getting weaker, said Bo, nodding and rubbing his chin. Vance sighed. I know! I'll pull Hamada-sama's shirt and- Rin grabbed Bo's hand before he tried anything. Leave me alone. She didn't smack me or scream at me, said Bo in complete surprise. Hamadasama? Is that you? Bo leaned over to Kristian. What did you do to Hamada-sama? Did you replace her with an emo girl? Nothing, said Kristian through gritted teeth. I know, said Bo, slamming a fist into his open hand. Why don't we split up? It will be easier to talk that way. I call Hamada-sama- Let's go Vance, said Rin, tugging Vance's black sleeve. Never mind, said Bo, still grinning. Hamada-sama seems to have picked her second knight. It' just me and you right Kris- Turning around, Bo watched as Kristian continued walking by himself with a scowl on his face. Bo lifted a brow and hurried up to catch up to his partner. Rin and Vance went the opposite direction. While she walked, Rin felt uneasy and glanced back only to find the other two boys striding quickly away. Sighing, Rin returned her attention to Vance. Right when Rin turned her head away, Kristian turned his head back to check on her. She was talking to Vance. Frowning, Kristian shifted his eyes back to Bo. What happen between you and Hamada-sama anyway? asked Bo in a more serious voice, glancing at the shorter male. Crap, said Kristian with a sigh. That's very specific, said Bo, grinning again. I... said Kristian, shaking his head. Have you felt so frustrated with a girl that you want to pull your hair out? Besides my sisters? asked Bo in a teasing voice. No, that's a different type of frustration, said Kristian, lightening somewhat. I know how that feels man. My cousin Jinx is hard to handle at times. What type of frustration then? asked Bo, tilting his head curiously. Like, said Kristian, glancing away quickly. Girlfriend frustrations. Ah, said Bo, rubbing his chin with a broad grin. I know how that feels. I still remember that time when Ms. Bautista decided that we should spend a whole day keeping a distance and standing five feet away from each other at all times. That's it, said Kristian suddenly. That type of frustration! And how girls get annoyed if you don't hold the door open for them to enter because of the whole ladies' first deal? asked Bo, amused. Oh Bo, said Kristian, chuckling. I always hold the door open. So do I, said Bo, grinning. But I'm just saying. I get you, said Kristian with a nod. I was under this impression that you are only together with Hamada-sama for benefits, said Bo in a straightforward manner. Kristian smiled innocently. I am not against your relationship with Hamada-sama or anything but if you try anything funny, I will be the first one to make sure you are sent into the hospital before she does. Please don't say such scary things with a grin on your face, said Kristian quickly. What's wrong with my grin? I'm enjoying the idea of it right now. You sound like her father, said Kristian with an annoyed look. Suddenly, Bo's grin disappeared. Kristian noticed immediately. Where is her father anyway?

I've known Hamada-sama for two years, said Bo slowly. I've never met her father. Is he... alive? There should be pictures of him at least, said Bo reasonably. In any case, said Kristian with a sigh. I don't know how to face her now. It's too awkward after what I had done to her last night... Oh really? asked Bo, rubbing his chin. Wait I mean- But before Kristian could explain himself, Bo flung Kristian over his shoulder and carried him off like he was a sack of rice. The people around them stared at the two boys but they did not have the courage to say anything. A certain late member of the tennis team under the name of Joyce Bautista saw and tilted her wet face in wonder. For a while, Rin did not say anything to Vance. It wasn't hard at all since the pale boy rarely spoke unless spoken to. At last, she found him stopping in front of a window shop. He was staring at all the electronics inside with mesmerized eyes. Rin had to poke him in the back before he responded. Vance? I should get a job. Rin blinked. That came out of nowhere. I am saving up for the newest model, said Vance quietly. Of? Computers, said Vance, removing his eyes from the window. You're quiet. I don't know what to say, said Rin honestly. Are you and Shiratori fighting? asked Vance, trying hard to sound interested. No! Definitely not! Fights are pointless anyways, said Vance, continuing their walk. Rin strolled next to him with a frown. When two people are stubborn, they refuse to the other person. Once you start a fight with the mindset that you are right and the other person is wrong, it will continue to build up. We're not fighting though, said Rin tensely. Humans have this tendency to deny the obvious, said Vance mercilessly. Rin dropped her head. You and Shiratori are not fighting verbally, but you two are still fighting nevertheless. The reason why I'm not talking to him is because, said Rin softly and emotionally. I don't want to fight. In other words, you're assuming that if you talk to him, you'll fight? Rin nodded, almost shamefully. Yes. Another human flaw, said Vance, shaking his head. Assumptions. You're as blunt as always, Vance, said Rin under her breath. I hate wasting time, said Vance suddenly. What? asked Rin, a bit off guard at his words. By not talking to him, you're wasting time, said Vance, explaining his words to Rin. Somewhere in there, you know you will have to talk to him eventually but instead, you are wasting time to delay the inevitable. The way you state that... I told you before, Rin, said Vance softly. We're not friends. I don't have to flatter you or sugarcoat my words. I know, Vance, said Rin, smiling weakly. That's why I like you. I want to hit you on the head so much right now with a book for being an idiot,

said Vance suddenly. Gasping, Rin turned to him. However, much to her surprise, he rubbed the top of her head instead. But instead, I'll do this. Vance... When people look at me, they avoid me, said Vance solemnly, petting Rin on the head continuously. I like it better that way. I'm used to it. People are dumb anyways. I don't mind but, Vance's hand stopped moving on top of her head, I like it when someone listens to me once in a while. I don't want a lot of stupid people sticking their noses in my business but I don't mind a single person being there for me. I really don't. Are you opening up to me? asked Rin surprisingly. Look at that couple over there, said Vance, indicating at a girl and a boy talking while holding hands. She's going on about her newest dress and he's ranting about his best friend's new car. They think they're talking to each other but they're not. They only want to listen to themselves. Isn't that pathetic? More like epic fail, said Rin, giggling at using Vance's word. Epic fail indeed, said Vance, scowling. But anyways, as long as you listen to Shiratori and he listens to you, everything will be fine. I'll... Vance covered his face with his other hand. Be there for you. Rin flushed bright red. Vance couldn't look at her in the eyes. An awkward moment passed by before Rin recovered and smiled brightly at the pale, darkly garbed boy. Thanks Vance. I said something lame didn't I? Not lame at all! cried Rin, bright and cheerful now. You helped me a lot! Meh... ***************************************** Right on time, Joyce, said Yvette cruelly, dragging the shaky Filipino girl to an empty seat next to Sophronia. Anyways, because I am the captain and I am the longest member on the tennis team, I'll introduce myself first. I'll set off a fine example that everyone else must follow. I'm not, said Roselle, pouting. Big meanie. Isn't she wonderful? asked Grim to David, keeping his eyes on Roselle. You have a weird taste in women, said David, grinning. David Shin right? asked Jezebelle, clicking her tongue at him. The Korean boy gave her his full attention. You shouldn't be talking, hun. You are Yvette's infamous bitch. What did you say? asked David, annoyed. Fi, said Jin, clapping a hand over her mouth. Let's not start a fight. Standing up dramatically, Yvette took a swift drink of her juice before she placed her hands on her hips and lifted her nose in the air. She flung her pigtails backwards and took a deep breath. Jin and the gang was in for it now. This was another one of Yvette's speeches that no one could stand. Automatically, their coach who was sitting nearby in his usual sunglasses and baseball cap, wore his headphones and opened a tennis magazine. My name is Yvette Kwan, said Yvette, beginning her long speech. As you all should know, I am the captain of the Varsity Tennis Team and arguably one of the best tennis players in the school, if not the state. I am very confident in my abilities. I am known for my eighty-percent success rate at volleying and poaching. What's poaching? asked Xuan Lan, sitting in front of Jezebelle. In doubles, poaching is when two players switch sides, said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes. Basically, let's say the opponent hit the tennis ball to the player at the baseline. However, the partner at the net decides to intervene and hit that ball instead. Since the

net player has changed position, the baseline player must compensate by covering the half of the tennis court that the net player has left open. Ashoo! cried Xuan Lan with a dropped jaw. In other words, Yvette's really good isn't she? Depends on her partner, said Jezebelle automatically. No worries there, said Jin with a smile. Venus is one heck of a doubles partner. Judging by their winning streak, said Jezebelle with a lifted brow. She must be. I rarely double fault, said Yvette, tugging her hair behind her ear. Actually, I rarely make mistakes. I am very precise with my shots. If we lose a point, either my partner has made a mistake or my opponents are better are returning the ball than us. Of course, we haven't lost in two years so there's no mistaking that I am a very competent player. I mean I have been on the Varsity Team since freshman year. I was Number Two Doubles back then with a senior at the time. Of course, everyone knew that I would be Team Captain one day. There's no helping it when you have so much talent in one person. Kwan, said Coach Marshall suddenly. The sizes? Oh yes, said Yvette, smiling brightly. Everyone remember to write down your shirt and pant size on that handout as well as your locker partner, phone number, e-mail, and the rest. I swear if I find out that anyone tried to write down a fake phone number, I will make sure that person end up picking up tennis balls for the rest of the year. You don't have that authority, said Patrick with a yawn. We're on the boys' team. Especially you Patrick, said Yvette with a glare. Patrick scowled. Who is our Team Captain anyway? asked Jin, confused. Jordan and Boris, said David with shrug. One is absent. The other doesn't speak English very well. We're screwed. We're stuck with Yvette for both teams. She's not that bad, said Jin, blinking. Yes she is, said all the surrounding boys in unison. Here, Miss Captain, said Jezebelle, running up to Yvette and handing her the form. I'm done sweetie. Can I leave now? You cannot, said Yvette irritably. She scanned the paper quickly. And what's with that tone? Are you mocking me? You are a new member of this team you know! And what is this? Yvette slapped her hand against the paper. You can't seriously be a size zero. Yes, I am, said Jezebelle, insulted. Jezebelle placed a hand on her hip. Dear, just because you can never achieve my level of beauty doesn't mean you should be accusing others of being a liar. Jin! shrieked Yvette. Jin ran up, panting. Does she really wear a size zero? She only weighs 109 pounds so maybe? At the announcement of her weight, Jezebelle smacked Jin upside the head. Without warning, Jezebelle grabbed Jin by the ear and dragged him back to their seat. Xuan Lan was now staring at her leader like she was a Goddess of some sort. The rest of the boys were gawking at Jezebelle as well. What's the big deal? asked Jin innocently. I used to weigh two pounds less, said Jezebelle, bursting into tears. Now, now... How unfair, said Yvette, scowling and wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Girls like her shouldn't be able to stand long enough, nevertheless play tennis! This is a crime to all us normal girls! Kwan, said Coach Marshall, interrupting her rant. Tell us why you play tennis. Oh right, said Yvette, returning to normal and swinging her ribbon around. I play

tennis because I love tennis. It's as simple as that. Actually, I hate to brag but my parents are both tennis players and they both coach hundreds of other students on tennis. Private lessons and everything. Did I mention that my younger brother is also a tennis prodigy? It's to be expected from my family though. Okay Captain, said Venus, patting Yvette on the shoulder. Yvette stuck her nose up in the air again before she sat down. Hi. My name is Venus Hermosa and I'm Yvette's partner for Doubles One. I'm a junior. There's nothing really that interesting about me except that I've joined the team around the same time as Joyce but I was in JV before I became a Varsity member sophomore year. Let's see... Venus thought about it for a second before her eyes glowed. The reason why I play tennis is because, Venus started hugging herself and jumping up and down. I love skirts! Assa! I love skirts too! cried Xuan Lan, rocking back and forth on her seat. Shut up, Spring, said Jezebelle, pinching her cheek. Oy! What I mean to say is that, said Venus, blushing bright red. She threw her arm out dramatically. You can never appreciate the full beauty of a woman if you haven't seen her in a short skirt. It is amazing how a skirt can really shape the legs, the thighs, the hips- Next, said Coach, waving his magazine in the air. Jezebelle, cried Venus while Coach dragged her from the front. Call me! I think I'm in love with you! Should I be flattered? asked Jezebelle to Jin. Venus has no interest in boys, said Jin with a sigh. She lives for women. That's why she loves tennis so much. You have to watch your back from now on, Fi. She might feel up your legs if you're not careful. Poopie! said Xuan Lan out loud. Willis will be jealous! I see, said Jin, narrowing his eyes at his girlfriend. Jezebelle glanced away innocently. What kind of relationship are you having with Wendy behind my back? A steaming one, seaweed, said Jezebelle, sticking out her tongue. Hot, said the boys around Jin's area. My turn, said Sophronia. The blonde-haired girl smiled softly, holding onto her pretty white bag. My name is Sophronia Stevens but everyone calls me the White Girl because obviously, I'm the only white female tennis player on the team. I'm a Senior and I joined the team sophomore year. The reason I joined the team is because my schedule messed up and I can no longer play on the volleyball team but that's perfectly fine because I am very content with being on the tennis team instead. I am currently Number Two Doubles but I don't mind playing any other position as long as I get to be with everyone. As flexible as ever, said Roselle, shaking her head at Sophronia. Why doesn't anyone join the tennis team for tennis? asked Yvette grumpily. Venus had to rub her shoulder to calm the team captain down. You're next Tasha. Go already! Hi everyone! cried the overexcited Tasha. Jezebelle noticed that Tasha was waving at her so she hid her head behind Jin for safety. I am so happy to be here and to introduce myself! I am Number One Singles but I don't care about winning. It's all about having fun and getting to meet new people at other schools who share your interests right? Why is she on this team? asked Yvette, moaning to Venus. I want to be friends with everyone on this team so if you need my help, please ask! said Tasha, smiling brightly. I love to talk and I stay up until three every night so send me an e-mail, give me a call, or even bombard me with text messages! I hope we can work together as a team to overcome all the obstacles waiting for us!

How old is Tasha? asked Jezebelle under her breath. She's a senior, said Jin, noticing that Jezebelle is still hiding. Why isn't she the captain? asked Jezebelle quickly. I mean she's so excited about this upcoming season... so excited that I want to barf. Because Tasha is all about having fun, said Jin, sighing. She can't take on the responsibility of being a team captain. It will take away all the fun from being on a team. You join a team because you want to win, said Jezebelle angrily. Now I know why you two don't get along, said Jin, chuckling under his breath. Tasha, get to the point, said Yvette in warning. State why you join the team. It's a funny story actually, said Tasha, giggling. One day, my dad told me that if I joined an athletic team for high school, he would take care of Tinkle Bell's expenses from now on. You joined a competitive tennis team because of a dog? asked Jezebelle, outraged. Jin knew she couldn't hold it in anymore. Tasha stared at Jezebelle like she had never met the younger girl before. Do you even know how to play tennis before you joined the team? How did you even make the team? How are you Singles One? How did I lose that position to the likes of you? Calm down, Fi, said Jin, forcing Jezebelle to sit down. Daddy said that he'll stop paying for Tinkle Bell's expenses if I don't stay at Singles One or Two, said Tasha, blinking. For Tinkle Bell, I am willing to play tennis eight hours a day if I must to stay at the top! I love Tinkle Bell! This is why our Singles suck, said Yvette with a sigh. I know but, said Venus with beaming eyes. Tasha's so pretty. She's so gorgeous in a tennis uniform! I can't wait to see her in a short skirt! That's all you think about, said Yvette, grumbling. Sophronia! Hearing her voice, the pure blonde girl turned her head to her right where two tall boys with brown hair waved at her. They were carrying a box of pizza each. Jezebelle nudged Jin in the ribs to ask for their identity since she rarely saw them around the tennis courts. However, judging from the way everyone reacted to their appearance, Jezebelle knew they were part of the boys' team. The taller one with really short brown hair and the headphones, said Jin with a smile. His name is Geoff Singer. He's really odd. How? asked Jezebelle curiously. Well... Sophronia, said Geoff, throwing his arms dramatically around the blonde girls' waist. How are you? Have you been well? Oh! Look there! Yvette and Venus are here too! Geoff ran over and crushed both girls into a hug. Venus looked like she was bitten by a snake. Tasha's here too! And Roselle! Joyce, you are as weepy as usual! With every name Geoff mentioned, he chased the girl down and hugged them in the same bold manner. Tasha and Roselle were quite pleased to receive a hug from him. However, Joyce simply cried louder at how he didn't ask her permission before he touched her. Right after Geoff hugged Roselle, he spotted Jezebelle and Xuan Lan. His usual serious eyes lit brightly. Who do we have here? asked Geoff, hugging Xuan Lan and Jezebelle without warning. Nice to meet you both! Oy! cried Xuan Lan. I hate bear hugs, said Jezebelle in a deep growl.

Wow! Everyone's here! cried Geoff, noticing the boys at last. Are we having a team meeting or something? Why wasn't I invited? At the sight of him, David and Grim paled in unison. Patrick hid behind Boris, who didn't care much. In unison, all the boys ran for their lives as the hugging monster Geoff ran after them with his arms spread out. The only ones left are the girls, Jin, and the second male with brown hair that Jin hadn't introduced to Jezebelle yet. That's why, said Yvette, smacking her forehead. Moving on, said Jezebelle, watching Geoff tackled and hugged Patrick from behind. How about the other dude? The shorter boy with that wide smile and wavy brown hair, said Jin, pointing at leftover male sitting next to Sophronia. His name is Javen Valley. He's actually Geoff's doubles partner even though he's only a sophomore. He joined the team last year and after a couple of matches, he made it to Doubles One. Oh yeah, said Jezebelle, blinking. He's in my history class. You don't care much for your classmates do you? asked Jin, amused. Not one bit, said Jezebelle without a doubt. Javen, said Yvette angrily at the younger boy. Why did you tell Geoff about our team meeting? We're supposed to get his size later! Coach told him, said Javen in defense. I didn't want him rocking out here either. Never mind that, said Yvette, tapping her glittery green pen against her cheek. Since he's here, we might as well give him a hand out and have him fill it out. Where have you been Javen? You should have been at this team meeting a while ago! Sorry Yvette, said Javen, smiling weakly. Geoff beat me down first. He owned me at the arcades. Great, said Yvette, rolling her eyes. Since the point of this meeting is for the girls to introduce themselves, we may continue without the boys. They're useless and disruptive anyways, especially Geoff. Who's next anyway? asked Coach, hiding behind his magazine from Geoff. Joyce I think, said Roselle, pushing Joyce to the front. You can do it Joyce! My name is Joyce Bautista, said Joyce softly, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes. I am Singles Number Four this year... but... Joyce started bursting into tears. I really want to just stay home today and mourn for my brother but since Yvette asked... Go home, Bautista, said Coach, shaking his head. Thank you, Coach, said Joyce, picking up her purse and running off. Your turn, Young, said Coach, suddenly lifting his sunglasses and staring hard at the half Filipino and half Native American girl. You better not bring your laptop with you. It's at home, Coach, said Roselle, standing up straight and placing her hands on her hips. And you, Coach, are one big meanie! I was violated, said Grim, sitting down across from Jin and Jezebelle. That guy really should be taken away for sexual harassment. Geoff's not that bad, said Jin with a smile. That's only because your girlfriend blocked you from his view, said Grim bitterly. You caught me, said Jin, scratching his head. Your lover is about to introduce herself, said Jezebelle, indicating at the front. Unfortunately, she's not, said Grim. Roselle only sees me as her club president. That'll change, said Jezebelle with an evil smile. What are you up to Fi? asked Jin warningly under his breath. Nothing, honey muffin, said Jezebelle, wrapping her arms around Jin's shoulders.

My name is Roselle Young, said Roselle, upbeat and happy. I am a junior and an inspiring writer. I really dislike Yvette and I think she's really mean. Yvette glared at Roselle. Even though I am grateful to Coach, I think he's mean too and I believe he's working with Yvette to oppress us all and force us to pay too much for our tennis uniforms. And you are allowing this girl to stay on the team? asked Yvette, demanding Coach Marshall. Coach simply shrugged. I swear I'll find a way to kick her off the team! Roselle's imagination is as big as always, said Jin, chuckling. It's beautiful, isn't it? asked Grim, love-struck. I have finished writing ten novels and am working on my eleventh one, said Roselle, tapping her fingers together. I type at like a hundred thirty words per minute. I also won three English awards last year and online awards for being the most dedicated, the most aspiring, the most imaginative- Can't you talk about tennis? asked Yvette loudly. We are at a tennis meeting. I joined the tennis team to ditch P.E., said Roselle proudly. End of story. Go sit down before I really find a way to kick you off the team, said Yvette angrily. I'm not afraid of you, said Roselle, sticking her tongue out. You are just one bossy, arrogant, and wannabe tennis captain! I'll never acknowledge you! Come back here you ditcher! shrieked Yvette, chasing Roselle with a racket. The fun never ends, said David, sitting down and panting. Who's next anyway? Who cares, said Jezebelle, standing up with a fierce smirk on her face. I'm fucking bored and I want to fucking make my speech already. Your girlfriend is really something, said David, blinking. Let's not talk about it, said Jin wearily. My name's Jezebelle Phoebe Tilly, said Jezebelle in declaration, gaining all the other girls' attention. No one is allowed to call me Fi or Fi-Fi or else I'll fucking hunt you down. Jezebelle whipped her long hair backwards. No one said anything out of fear, interest, or surprise. Since I have to say something about myself, I might as well say something meaningful. I swear I will become Singles One by the end of this tennis season or else I'll quit the team. And by senior year, I'll definitely become a Team Captain whether you bitches like it or not. As for why I play tennis, Jezebelle giggled evilly. It is the only game where I can hit someone with a ball and earn a point for it. Sweet isn't it? Ta-ta. Nice meeting you all. Fi... groaned Jin. Oh, one last thing, said Jezebelle, jumping back to her spot. If you have any concerns or questions in regards to my attitude, please consult my boyfriend over there. Thanks Fi, said Jin the minute she sat back down on his lap. You're welcome, apple cinnamon, said Jezebelle, making kissing noises. Checking to make sure no one was up next, a certain Asian girl with brown hair and large brown eyes made her way to the front. She was wearing hipster clothes- the denim miniskirt, the black leggings, and even the matching pointy heels. However, Jin could tell she was definitely Korean and she was definitely a new member on the team. My Korean name is really funny and hard to pronounce so everyone calls me Lexi, said Lexi, rocking on her heels. She jumped to the side. Hi Lexi. Then she jumped back to her original spot. Anyways, I'm a freshman and I'll be Sophronia's new doubles partner. I'm sure I can go on for hours about my life story but no one wants to hear that so- Lexi did the same routine as before. No, we don't Lexi. Lexi returned to her spot. In summary, I join the tennis team because I feel like it and I play tennis before. Also, I like to party so please invite me to any. For one last time, Lexi jumped to her right. We will Lexi!

Every girl on this team is weird, said Jezebelle, slamming her head on the table. You shouldn't be talking, Fi, said Jin, petting her on the shoulder. So... yay me? asked Lexi, smiling cutely. She skipped off the front. Do JV girls have to introduce themselves? asked Xuan Lan quietly to Tasha up front. No dear, said Tasha, shaking her head. Yvette says we don't have time for all ten of you. The Varsity members are fine. Hey, that's not fair, said Jin, upset for Xuan Lan. It's okay, Onii-chan, said Xuan Lan quickly, beaming. No one climbs to top without working hard from the bottom right? I'll practice and practice until I am good enough to be on Varsity. Then, I'll be able to make a speech next year. Ashoo! So cute, said Jin, hugging Jezebelle to make up for him wanting to hug Xuan Lan. Watch it will you? asked Jezebelle, annoyed at the sudden attack. The last two Chinese girls with long black hair and bangs that made up Doubles Number Three stood up front quietly. They did not say anything. To Jin, they looked almost identical for some reason. They were definitely not twins but they were similar enough to be mistaken as such. Jin lifted a brow. They still haven't spoken a word. Their names are May Fang and Mai Cheng, said Coach Marshall for them, gaining everyone's attention. They are freshman and are very shy. They are not very fluent in English either so help them the best you can. Which one is May and which one is Mai? asked Tasha, wide-eyed. I'm not sure yet, said Coach with a loud laugh. That's reassuring, said Yvette, dragging Roselle behind her. Anyways, everyone hurry up and finish up your forms already! We don't have have all day you know. But you're the one who forced us to come here on a Saturday, said Roselle in protest, pouting behind Yvette. You be quiet, said Yvette through gritted teeth. You know, Miss Meanie, said Roselle, irked. We can do so many things right now. I can be typing. Jin can be gaming. Venus can be feeling random girls at the pool. Tasha can be walking her poodle. Grim can be reading my chapters. But no, you forced us to come here for your little meeting that can be done any day during sixth period! And now, you're telling us to hurry up and leave? Coach, said Yvette, running over to Coach Marshall and shaking his arm. Do something about Roselle! She's defying my authority again! Enough, enough, said Coach, closing his magazine and turning his baseball cap backwards. He stood up straight now. All of you must fill out this- Coach picked up the handout. Why is it sparkling pink? Pink is a very nice color, said Yvette proudly. Whatever, said Coach, holding the paper as far away from him as possible. Everyone must fill this out now because I am turning in the paperwork for your lockers on Monday. I don't want any fooling around. That's right. Coach pointed at a certain brownhaired male. Patrick, you better not write a girl's name as your locker partner. You're no fun Coach, said Patrick, crossing out what he just wrote. Jin, said Javen, coming up to the Korean boy from behind. Jordan wants you to know that he wants you to write his name down as your locker partner. Jamming no? Oh thanks for telling me, said Jin with a smile. We're cool right? asked Javen, as if uncertain. Yes, said Jin, confused. Why wouldn't we be? Stuff, said Javen, smiling. You don't remember do you?

Not really, said Jin honestly. I need to return that Kirby game I borrowed a year ago. That's what happen to it, said Jin, sighing. Thanks. I really need it back soon. No problem, man, said Javen, turning his back to Jin. So... we're really cool? We're good, said Jin with a nod. Word, said Javen, tossing Jin a sparkling smile. I'll catch you later bud. What is the deal with you and Jordan? asked Jezebelle innocently, watching Javen sit down. Nothing, said Jin honestly. I guess I'm his best friend on the team. Is that all? asked Jezebelle, writing down Xuan Lan's name as her locker partner. We rarely talk outside of tennis, said Jin admittedly. Well, at least before this year. I don't know why he's been talking to me so much this year. It's bizarre now that I think about it. I must investigate this, said Jezebelle with a devious smile. Fi, said Jin, writing down Jordan's name down. Can't you go through one day without having a single... ill intention on your mind? Who do you think you're talking to? asked Jezebelle, outraged. Never mind, said Jin quietly. That's our Jesse, said Xuan Lan happily. Assa! Eventually, most of the boys managed to write down their partners, sizes, and everything else in no time. The girls were taking longer, as expected. Roselle and Sophronia were happy to partner up so quickly. The Chinese girls Mai and May did not take long either. They didn't know anyone else anyways. The only problem was that Jezebelle paired up with Xuan Lan, making it an odd number for the rest of the Varsity team. None of them wanted to pair up with JV girls. It was a stupid bias in Jin's opinion. I'm here! I'm here Yvette! Please don't punish me yo! Checking her sparkling cell phone, Yvette shook her head at the panting male that ran up to her. Jezebelle and Jin whirled around to find that it was none other than an African American male of average height in a large, gray hooded sweatshirt. He looked like he ran all the way from the parking lot to here. Actually, chances were he might have. In school, I heard about how you've been late every day to class, said Yvette in a chiding voice. And now you're late to my tennis meeting? How dare you Rick Crawford! That's Rick Crawford, said Jezebelle with sparkling eyes. How do you know Rick? asked Jin, lost. He's a junior like me. I looked at that black binder remember? asked Jezebelle, winking. Jin remembered now. It was back when Jezebelle used Eunice as a tool to get her hands on Tiffany's black binder. Rick Crawford is the only African American on the boys' tennis team. He's been late to class every day this week. He hasn't shown up for sixth period tennis either, said Jin, thinking. I wonder why. Rick's always been a good student up until now. Come on, Yvette, said Rick, shaking his head at the irritated Korean girl. Can't you let this brother off the hook? I had issues to deal with beforehand girl! You are over an hour late, said Yvette grumpily, narrowing her eyes. Jesus Christ woman! Have a heart! From now on, said Yvette mercilessly. You are picking up tennis balls for the rest of the year! I'll see to it that you complete this task every day! Fuck, I can't, said Rick, throwing his arms about. It's about my family girl. I can't just ditch them cause of tennis shit. Can't you show some love once in a while?

Explain yourself then, said Yvette, lifting a brow. Dudette, listen here, said Rick, sighing. I can't. It's complicated business. I don't care, said Yvette, twirling her glittery pen. You are over an hour late to a very important meeting so you must be punished. Those are the rules. Fuck, said Rick, frustrated. I'll do anything. Shit. Anything at all! Be reasonable! Yvette, said Jin, standing up. Jezebelle growled under her breath at Jin's intervention. Rick must be going through a tough time right now. You know he's been a well-behaved member of the team before this year. Is it wrong to give him some slack? If you need someone to pick up tennis balls for the rest of the year, I'll do it. I'm the Team Manager anyway. It's my job. No, man, said Rick, shaking his head at Jin. You're my brother, Jin. I can't let you take the hit for me. It's not right man. I'm fine really, said Jin with a reassuring smile. Fi is part of the girls' team anyways. I'll have to watch her practice tennis after school four days a week. It's not out of my way or anything. But Jin, said Rick, feeling awful. I'm good, said Jin, laughing weakly. We're glad to have you here. Yeah, said David, standing up. Nice to see you for once Rick! Rick, I miss you and your black ass, said Geoff, tackling Rick into a bear hug. What is going on here? asked Yvette, pulling her pigtails. This is so uncivilized! He should be chastised for showing up late! Why are they welcoming him? This is not right! Liven up, Kwan, said Coach, smiling from beneath his sunglasses. It's Saturday. ***************************************** No, no, I can't, said Jordan Green, tossing the basketball girls a dazzling smile. However, his eyes spot a certain blonde girl refusing to meet his eyes. Thanks for voting for me for Team Captain everybody! Well, almost everybody. After everyone dispersed, Jordan met Wendy's eyes. He noticed that she was dressed differently, even outside of school. She wore spiky bracelets, spiky belts, and a lot of black ornaments. Jordan would have gotten a unanimous vote for team captain if it weren't for Wendy. Even though he was surrounded by the other members of the female basketball team, his eyes were on Wendy. The punk girl picked up her bag and went on her way. Wendy! Wendy stopped for a second at the sound of the familiar voice. Quickly, she wiped the loose tears in the corners of her eyes. How could she face him and talk to him now? Throughout the entire basketball meeting, Wendy had kept to herself, not saying a word. Even when she sat far away from him, her heart would not stop beating rapidly at the sight of him. It was cruel but Wendy knew that if he took her back, she would go back and drop any thoughts of revenge. She was too soft. She was no Jezebelle. Wendy, didn't you hear me? asked Jordan, grabbing her arm. What do you want, Captain? asked Wendy in a low growl. I... said Jordan, glancing to the ground. His hand loosened its grip on her arm. I want to say that you still look good in your new style... It's not a new style, got it? asked Wendy, glaring. This is the real me. This is the Wendy back in middle school. This is the Wendy before she met you. Oh man. I don't even know why I'm explaining this to you in the first place! Why didn't you just be yourself? asked Jordan, a bit careless. Be myself? asked Wendy, laughing loudly and holding onto her stomach like usual. Like you would even notice my existence if I be myself. Would you even go out with a

punk? Jordan was speechless. Fuck no! You only go out with preppy girls! I transformed myself into one for you, you jerk. I'm sorry, said Jordan under his breath. No, you're not, said Wendy, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. I'll make it up to you, said Jordan quickly. Anything. Break up with Victoria indefinitely then, said Wendy, turning her head away. I can't do that, said Jordan sadly. Victoria's innocent. I don't want her to get involved with my problems. Can't you leave her out of our fight? You would have never said the same for me, said Wendy in a shaky voice. Jordan baby! cried Victoria, waving from a distance. In comparison to Wendy, Victoria shone brightly with her friendly, soft face and white dress. At the sight of her, Wendy tore away from Jordan and disappeared in the crowds of the mall. Victoria latched herself to Jordan soon enough and scanned around for the person Jordan was talking to. She didn't notice that Jordan kept staring after Wendy. Vic, said Jordan softly. What do you think of Wendy? I like don't know, said Victoria, frowning. She's like not the prettiest gal around. I mean, laughed Jordan, shaking his head. Never mind. But, said Victoria suddenly. I like feel guilty around her you know? I mean even though Monika totally started it, it's like my fault too for her sudden lost of fashion. I wonder why I went out with an underclassman that's not pretty at all, said Jordan under his breath. Maybe... Excuse me babe? Nothing, Vic, said Jordan, waving it off. Nothing at all. After Wendy left Jordan and Victoria behind, she lowered her eyes to the ground. In every way, she was noting compared to Victoria. Why did she even believe she stood a chance with Jordan even for two days? She was simply a girl to pass the time with. Wendy swore not to cry as she walked by herself through the mall. Suddenly, out of loneliness, Wendy sent a text message to Jezebelle quickly. A few seconds later, Jezebelle replied by inviting her to meet up at Jumbo Juice. Quickly, Wendy dashed across the mall until she reached the food court where the tennis team was. Wendy, said Jin in surprise. He just stood up to turn in his handout. Jin Song... said Wendy, shaking from top to bottom. Jin! Er... Soon enough, Wendy hugged Jin and rubbed her head against his shoulder. Yvette gave Jin an awkward look as she took the paper hanging in the air from him. Little did Jordan know, he came just in time to see Wendy embraced Jin around the midriff. Victoria tossed Jordan a worried glance, but there was no emotion on Jordan's face. Without a word, Jordan decided against meeting up with the tennis team at the last minute and went the other direction with Victoria following his heels. Wendy, what's wrong? asked Jin carefully, lowering his arms. Nothing, said Wendy weakly. Now, I'm jealous, said Jezebelle, staring at the two. Wendy lifted her head from Jin's arm and gawked at her leader who was sitting nearby this whole time. Wendy, shouldn't you be hugging me instead of him? You're my lover aren't you? Leader, said Wendy happily, coming up to Jezebelle. You're here. Bitch, said Jezebelle, standing up and slapping Wendy across the face. Of course, everyone stared at the fight that might break out. Jin ran over and held Jezebelle's hand from hitting Wendy a second time. You cried over a boy didn't you?

I... That's enough, Fi, said Jin, a bit tense. You are better than that, said Jezebelle, sitting back down and crossing her legs. You are to seek revenge against him, not cry like a baby over him. Why did I pick you for my group for? To stand around and look cute? That's Spring's job, not yours. You are the coleader of my group aren't you? Act like one, loser. Fi, you're unbelievable, said Jin, angry now. Thanks, said Wendy weakly. Jin and everyone else looked at Wendy like she was crazy. Wendy rubbed the red finger marks against her cheek. Thanks a lot Leader. Why are you thanking me for? asked Jezebelle, irritated. Go on. Move on with your life already, Wendy. Why don't you accomplish something useful with your time? Can't you do anything but go around and hug other people's boyfriends? Man, Leader, said Wendy, laughing loudly now. Jin was scared so he backed away. I suck ass man. I don't know what has gotten into me. I was such a loser aren't I? I swear I won't do such meaningless things again. That's my Wendy, said Jezebelle, smiling now. Willis, said Xuan Lan, hopping over. Hi! Spring's here too, said Wendy, surprised. Oh yeah. You're on the team too. Can we go window shopping Jesse? Please? asked Xuan Lan sweetly. Go already, said Jezebelle, irritated. I don't care. Do whatever you like. Just don't do anything stupid that'll make me look bad. Hai! Ashoo! Watching Wendy leave with Xuan Lan arm-in-arm, Jezebelle sighed and took a sip of her juice. Jin sat down next to her, speechless what he saw happened between her and her group. Noticing his eyes on her, Jezebelle lifted an annoyed brow at him. What? Since we're at the mall, said Jin, wrapping his arms behind his neck. You want to do something together? Or do you want to meet up with Rin-chan and others? No thanks, said Jezebelle, smirking cutely. I need to do something. And what might that be? Get Grim and Roselle together, said Jezebelle, laughing in her usual nasty way. You shouldn't, said Jin carefully. Why not? asked Jezebelle cutely, lifting Jin's chin. I am only doing them a favor. More like you're doing yourself a favor... ********************************************** This is awkward Vance. You think? Should I do or say something? Be a nuisance Sungwoo. I don't care. Now that you say it like that... The two males name Vance and Bo were nervously watching Rin and Kristian sitting on opposite sides of a table. Rin was busy sipping her lemonade. Kristian was busy playing around with his spaghetti. He ordered lunch with Bo, who of course dump all the spice he could into his food. The two haven't spoken a word since they reunited five minutes ago. This worried Bo a lot. Vance looked indifferent but he felt the same way as Bo. The two bystanders sighed in unison as they continued to hide from the eyesight of the Japanese couple. About last night, said Kristian after finishing the last bite of his spaghetti.

Nothing happened last night, said Rin quickly, removing her lips from her straw. Right, said Kristan, speechless. Let's say something did happen last night. Nothing happened last night so let's leave it as that, said Rin, chewing on her straw to cool down her nerves. Why didn't you slap me then? asked Kristian suddenly, raising his voice slightly. Why would I slap you for no reason? asked Rin, trying hard to avoid his gaze. Rin-chan, said Kristian in a sweeter voice than normal. You should have slapped me. If you had slapped me, we wouldn't be in this... state. I don't know what you're talking about, said Rin quickly. I always know what I'm talking about, said Kristian. Are you afraid? I'm not afraid, said Rin in denial. There's nothing to be afraid about. Are you afraid of me? asked Kristian, peering at her closely. I'm not, said Rin with a shake of her head. I'm not afraid of anything. Then, why have you been avoiding me? asked Kristian, lifting a brow. I haven't been avoiding you, said Rin with a weak laugh. You haven't asked me anything so I haven't answered anything. You haven't greeted me so I haven't greeted back. See? We're talking now right? I'm not avoiding you. You just haven't talk to me first. Wow, Rin-chan, said Kristian, leaning against the table toward her. Why are you talking so fast? Why do you sound so nervous? I'm definitely not nervous, said Rin, sipping her lemonade immediately. Are you being shy? asked Kristian in shock. Rin flushed red. No, I'm not being shy. I'm not being coy either. I'm just being myself. I'm just talking. See? I'm talking to you. I'm not shy at all! You are repeating yourself a lot, said Kristian, standing up. What are you doing? asked Rin, gaping. I'm sitting next to you, said Kristian, sitting down in the chair next to hers. Rin unconsciously moved her seat further away. What's wrong? The distance between us before was suffocating. This is better to talk to right? You're too close, Kristian, said Rin, scooting further away. What's wrong with being too close? asked Kristian incredulously, scooting his chair along with her. Is there something wrong with me sitting next to you? Nothing is wrong, said Rin, laughing and lowering her eyes. Nothing at all. Why are you avoiding my eyes? asked Kristian, grabbing her hand with his. Look at me. Look at me! No, there's no need to, said Rin, keeping her eyes on the cup. We can talk just fine without making eye contact. It's better that way right? We don't need to feel awkward while gazing into each other's eyes. Before Rin could continue, Kristian grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him. Immediately, Rin glanced away. Kristian dropped his hand from her, confused at the sight before him. Rin hugged her cup to her as if begging him to leave her alone. There was something wrong with Rin and Kristian was starting to figure out why. Do you... I am not anything. Do you like me? asked Kristian, almost inaudible. Rin's eyes popped open. No. Are you sure? asked Kristian, keeping a distance from her now. Not at all, said Rin, gaining some courage. She started laughing. No, definitely not. How can I? I don't like you Kristian. You're the one who always disrupts class. You are

the type of person I hate the most. You are the type of boy I stay away from. And what type of boy is that? asked Kristian in a solemn voice. The type that fools around with girls, said Rin with a weak smile. The type that makes fun of teachers and never takes anything seriously. The type that is intelligent enough to make this world a better place but instead chooses to do the opposite. Is that how you see me? asked Kristian quietly. Yes, said Rin with a firm nod. Yes, that's exactly how I see you. So judgmental, said Kristian, amused. But, said Rin suddenly, lifting her eyes from her cup to his neck. You are also the one who... who... Rin's eyes started to water slightly. Who... You don't have to say anything, said Kristian at last. He stood up. I shouldn't have forced you to talk to me so soon after everything that has happened. Wait, said Rin, grabbing a hold of his pants. I want to say it. I need to say it. If I don't say it now, I might regret it. Okay then, said Kristian, sitting back down and placing his elbows on his knee. Talk to me Rin-chan. I'm here and I won't bite unless you tell me to. That day, said Rin slowly, dropping her eyes to her knees now. I feel like I've lost Jin forever. I feel like I've lost the closest, most important person to me. I feel like it's Father all over again. Kristian nodded in understanding. I want to hate Jin. I want to make him feel miserable. I want him to feel what I feel. That's why... that's why... You pick me, said Kristian automatically. Yes, said Rin with a nod. I used you Kristian. I know, said Kristian with a firm nod. I know you did. Because you ask me out at the right time, said Rin, struggling with her words. I shouldn't have done that. I was being selfish. I wanted to hurt Jin so bad that I force myself upon you. You are easy to pick too since you're pretty loose with girlfriends. No commitment. No regrets. Like a one-night stand? asked Kristian, amused. I'm being serious here, said Rin, scowling. Oops, said Kristian, licking his lips. Go on. But why did you have to be so nice to me? asked Rin, tearful now. Why did you have to be there for me and hold my hand when I feel so down? Do you know how confused I was at the time? You should have left me alone. I couldn't Rin-chan, said Kristian, lowering his head and looking up at her. Rin removed her gaze from him instantly. No matter how much you hate me I can't hate you. I can't leave you alone when you're shivering in your bed like that. That would be very cruel, even for me. My feelings are all mixed up now because of that though, said Rin tensely, finishing her lemonade with one last sip. How do I feel for you exactly? What is our relationship exactly? I need to know. I need to figure it out. You're like a fruit wanting to be harvested, said Kristian, chuckling. What is that supposed to mean? asked Rin in a weaker tone than usual. Isn't it frustrating trying to decide whether you're ripe enough to be pick or not? asked Kristian, leaning back in his chair with his arms behind his neck. Kristian licked his lips multiple times. Isn't it also frustrating trying to decide how you should feel towards someone? Wasn't it so easy before when you're absolutely certain you hate me? What are you trying to say... Does it matter whether you're ripe or not? asked Kristian with an amused smirk on

his face. You're going to be harvested eventually. Kristian... There are many types in the world, Rin-chan, said Kristian softly. Some girls are certain they are in love, only to find out otherwise. Some girls are certain they are not in love, only to find out they are. Then, there are others who are not sure and waste a lot of time figuring it out, only to see that person pass them by. What are you Rin-chan? The real reason why I didn't want to talk to you earlier is because, said Rin, sighing. I didn't want us to fight. You see? asked Kristian, wrapping his arms around Rin's neck. We're not fighting. We're not, said Rin, shocked at his words more than his actions. You shouldn't think of the worst case scenario, silly, said Kristian against her ear. How about you? asked Rin weakly. Why didn't you want to talk to me? I didn't know what to say, said Kristian, chuckling. For the second time in his life, Shiratori-sama doesn't know what to say to a girl. Isn't that so ironic? Did you also think of the worst case scenario? asked Rin in a mutter. I did run the idea of you breaking up with me, said Kristian in a more lighthearted voice. Rin froze. Would that count as a worst case scenario? Or would that count as the best possible outcome for you, Rin-chan? Let's break up then, said Rin all of a sudden. Sure, said Kristian, releasing her from him. Will you cry then? Maybe, I'm indecisive remember? asked Rin, looking straight at him now. Unless you tell me no, I'm not breaking up with you, said Kristian, gazing intently at her. What will it be? I don't know, said Rin. Suddenly, her eyes were filled with tears again. Why am I crying already? We haven't broken up yet. You know what's so cruel about tears? asked Kristian, placing his hand on her face. Half the time I can't tell if they're tears of joy, sorrow, or anger. You have to tell me Rinchan or else I'm going to assume the worst case scenario. And what is the worst case scenario for you, Kristian? Either tears of joy or sorrow, said Kristian firmly. Tears of joy because my ego will be sad. Tears of sorrow because my heart will be sad. But not tears of anger? Nope, said Kristian with a smile. I can't deal with tears of joy because that means you are happy to see me go. There's nothing I can do about that. I can't deal with tears of sorrow either because that means I don't deserve you if I made you cry. There's something wrong with me that I cannot undo. I can deal with tears of anger because that means you care enough to get mad at me and let me know about it. That way, I can fix the problem. Is this what they mean when all couples must fight at least once? asked Rin quietly. I don't fight often with my, said Kristian, stopping at the sight of Rin's wide eyes. Oh, I see that you stopped crying thanks to my explanation. Are you feeling better? Do you want to try to play the break up scenario again? You shouldn't take the situation so lightly, said Rin with a pout. But it's so much fun, said Kristian, throwing away her cup into the nearest trash can. We're not breaking up then? I don't think so, said Rin, uncertain. I avoided you for nothing, said Kristian, shaking his head. Of course, the perverted reasons didn't help but- What perverted reasons? demanded Rin, returning to her old self.

I love you? said Kristian, giving her the best innocent look he could manage. You are such a- I love you? repeated Kristian, leaning toward her suddenly. Wait a sec- Enough, you two, said Bo, appearing out of nowhere. He stood behind them with a grin on his face. Kristian scowled. I'm glad you guys are back to normal. How about going to the book store? Vance has been asking me all day to go there. I did not, said Vance, lifting a brow. Let's go to the book store then, said Rin happily, jumping out of her seat and walking by Bo's side. I've always wanted to check on the newest SAT books! Why would I ever go to a book store? asked Kristian in dismay. I'm not going. Where will you go then? asked Bo curiously. Gary should be around here, said Kristian, sighing and licking his lips. There's a basketball meeting today at Starbucks and Gary's on the team. He usually doesn't leave the mall until later in the evening when his older sister can pick him up after work. All right then, said Rin, unaffected. I'll see you around then. Aren't you sad at all to see me leave? asked Kristian, disappointed. I'll see you at home right? asked Rin, smiling. Oh right, said Kristian, laughing. So seductive, Rin-chan. You might as well say 'I'll see you in my bedroom'. Gutter brain, said Rin, sticking out her tongue. Maybe that's why I can't find a female member for the Killer Four, said Kristian, laughing some more and strolling the opposite direction. Wait a second, said Rin at Kristian's last words. You're looking for a girl to join? I will have to decline your offer, Rin-chan, said Kristian quickly. I don't want to date anyone in the same group as me. It'll break the group up if you know what I mean. I know what you mean, said Rin, rolling her eyes. I'll never leave JinRinBo! Heh, said Vance, pocketing his hands into his pockets. I mean, I'll never leave JinRinBoVance, said Rin in correction. It just doesn't have the same ring to it, said Bo, shaking his head. We can fix it later, said Rin through gritted teeth. But I know someone! Kristian ran back and grabbed a hold of Rin's hand. Who? She's actually in the mall right now. ********************************************** Somehow, Jin found himself being dragged around by Jezebelle. She was searching the area for any sign of where Roselle might have run off to. Right after she turned in her handout, she was ready to run and never return. Jezebelle heard from Xuan Lan who heard from May and Mai that Venus was the one who drove Roselle to the mall. Despite her wanting to run away, she couldn't leave the mall until Venus decided to go home. I should have known she'll be at the bookstore, said Jezebelle, catching Roselle walking around the fiction section. Fi, you shouldn't have interfered in Grim and Roselle's business, said Jin worriedly. Do you know how much power I'll have if I can get the humor editor to work for me? asked Jezebelle, pleased. Everything will be in my favor once I find a way to make Roselle Grim's girlfriend. He'll be so grateful to me. Must you use everyone around you for power? asked Jin, disgruntled. Yes, pickled plums, said Jezebelle without hesitation. I should have known, said Jin, shaking his head. Why am I helping you Fi?

Because you're my nice and forgiving boyfriend, said Jezebelle, petting him on the head like an obedient dog. I am too soft sometimes, said Jin to himself. Shit, said Jezebelle, pulling Jin behind a bookshelf with her. What's wrong now? asked Jin, peeking his head out. What are those two doing here? asked Jezebelle, pointing. Who? asked Jin, searching. Shortie and Shiratori! Like Jezebelle said, Jin caught Rin and Kristian walking up to Roselle and talking to her for some reason. Jin frowned. They seemed to have made up during this entire time he was at the tennis meeting. Where were Vance and Bo though? At the thought, Jin found Vance sitting in the corner with his head buried in a science fiction book. As for Bo, Jin was almost certain he was at the romance novels section without checking. Let's head over there, said Jezebelle, poking Jin. We need to hear what they have to say. I'm not eavesdropping, said Jin in dismay. Please cinnamon bear? asked Jezebelle, shaking Jin and pouting. I'm only coming with you because I'm worried about Rin-chan and Kristian's relationship, said Jin with a sigh of defeat. While Jin and Jezebelle snuck their way closer to the fiction section, Roselle was smiling brightly to meet up with Rin at the bookstore like this. She thought their meeting was coincidental but in actuality, Rin knew that she would find Roselle here. You're one of the few female friends I have, Roselle, said Rin, smiling at the halfFilipino girl. And since most of the girls in our grade have already joined a group, it's hard to find a new member for the Killer Four. Why can't you change your name to the Killer Three? asked Roselle to Kristian. Why do you make the same comment as Cory? asked Kristian, dropping his head. Cory, said Roselle, reddening much to Rin and Kristian's surprise. He's in the Killer Four isn't he? He is, said Kristian, uncertain if this worked for or against him. I know I'm a wanderer and I jump groups constantly but, said Roselle shyly, frowning. I've never been in the Killer Four before. I don't know if I can stick to one group to be honest no matter how cool the Killer Four is. Is there any way you'll be willing to stay in the Killer Four? asked Rin quickly. That's hard to say, Rin Hamada, said Roselle. I like to but Cory's in it. What's wrong with Cory? asked Rin awkwardly. I know the Killer Four hang out even outside of school, said Roselle, pouting. What if Cory finds out how writing obsessed I am? He might not talk to me anymore... Fuck! cried Kristian, turning his back on them while holding a hand against the book shelf. Kristian? asked Rin worriedly. There's no way in hell that a pretty girl like you, Roselle, have a crush on an air head like Cory right? asked Kristian, almost begging. How did you figure it out? asked Roselle, jumping backwards. She looked like she was hit by a book. Oh no Kristian. Please don't tell Cory! He'll never talk to me again! I know you're his best friend so please keep this secret for me. Please? Please? You must be insane, said Kristian in outrage. Sorry, Roselle, said Rin, clapping a hand over Kristian's mouth. But let's say

hypothetically that Kristian and I can get you and Cory together, can you stay in the Killer Four then? It's fine right? Sure but, said Roselle, dropping her eyes. That's not possible. Cory's very... oblivious to my feelings. I don't have the courage to tell him outright either. He's oblivious to everything, said Kristian in a loud groan. Rin couldn't shut Kristian up long enough. Are you sure it has to be Cory? Can't it be Gary? What's wrong with Cory? asked Roselle, upset now. Love is truly blind, said Kristian, smacking his forehead. Look who's talking, said Rin, rolling her eyes. I know right? asked Kristian, licking his lips. In my eyes, you're tall and curvy with a pretty face. You like wearing skirts and dresses. You're also very sweet, innocent, and nice. You are definitely not judgmental or cynical. You also call me Shiratori-sama and you always agree with everything I say because I'm perfect. Do you want to die? asked Rin incredulously. Those two are back to normal at least, said Jin with a satisfied smile. Forget that, said Jezebelle, fuming. If Shortie and Shiratori succeed, I'll lose this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make use of the school newspaper! What can you do now? asked Jin, taking out his game system to play Megaman. Easy, said Jezebelle, smirking. I'll get Roselle together with Grim before they get Roselle together with Shiratori's bitch. You are still going to continue with this plan despite Roselle not having any feelings for Grim and being completely oblivious to his? asked Jin incredulously. Are you assuming that I actually care about Roselle's feelings at all? asked Jezebelle in astonishment. How do you live with yourself Fi? By winning, said Jezebelle, glancing at Rin and Kristian arguing about something. Besides, how can you and I possibly lose to those two? Jesus Christ. We're Koreans. They're Japanese. We are like enemies for life! We shouldn't even be standing in the same room without getting into a fight! Wait a second, said Jin, stunned. Why am I involved? Because if you don't help me, French fries, said Jezebelle, snatching his game and holding it away from Jin. I'll throw this in the parking lot. I wonder how much it cost? You win, said Jin, lowering his voice. What's our strategy? All you need to do is obey, my man servant. I'm sorry Roselle, said Jin, walking out the door with Jezebelle and tossing the authoress a glance. It's the Beauties versus the Brainies all over again... *********************************** Hello? asked Bo, picking up his cell phone. Bo... I... Ms. Bautista? asked Bo, shocked to hear Joyce's voice. He dropped the books he picked out. Where are you? Are you crying? Did something happen? Sungwoo, I think Rin and Shiratori are done talking, said Vance, walking over to Bo. I'll be right there, said Bo, hanging up the phone. Bo grinned at Vance. I'm sorry Vance but I have to go somewhere. Please look out for Hamada-sama for me. Sungwoo? asked Vance, confused. He picked up one of Bo's dropped books. It was a book on how to writing college essays. Should I care about him?
