A Family Argument
You see a vision of Commander Wheeler-Nicholson, but she looks much younger. She istalking with someone: he looks kind of like here. Abrother? A cousin? Parent or child? The words are garbled so that you can't makeout what they're saying. As the conversation goeson, the two get more angryand more animated.Eventually, the two are yelling at each other. Nowthe words become a little more clear:"What the military has been doing to thosesoldiers is immoral, and you know it" he says."Joining the military while they continue theseprograms is condoning their immoral acts.""Defending our way of life is worth somesacrifices." The not-yet-commander yells back. "Andyou can't stop me joining the military." She stormsout of the room slamming the door behind her.Nearby, a small child watches with worry in hiseyes.
Disappointing Pareidolia
You get a vision of several workmen in spacesuits, carting a box through an airlock chamber. Asthe door finally closes behind them, each beginsremoving their helmets and life support gear.A figure approaches: it is Dr. Tenagon. Sheimpatiently waits for the workmen to finish removingtheir suits, thenrushes them into opening the crate. There is a whoosh of gasses as the pressure insideand outside the box equalize. Tengaon reachesthrough the fog in the box to grab out a stone thatlooks vaguely like a squashed human face."This is no good"she says. "Just a naturalsandstone deposit. There's no sign that tools wereinvolved in making this, just natural geologic forces." The workmen look at one another, unclear onwhat this means."No aliens here" she says, lookingdisappointed. "Same as every other planet."

Welcome to Proxima
You receive a vision. In it, Hester Zaois dressedin a nice suit. She walks through the lobby of atowering office complex. Inside, she scans ahandheld device for directions to an office. Thedirections seem to take her further and further intothe bowels of the earth rather than up towards thefancy offices on higher floors.Zaoarrives at a doorway, which seems to beher destination. She looks up, and is dismayed atwhat she finds. She knocks on the door and thenenters.Inside, an ancient man sits in a messy office. He looks up at her. "Ah, you must be myreplacement, uh..." he shuffles the papers andeventually finds one he's looking for. "Hester Zao?"Zao nods."Well," he says, "it's all yours. All you gotta dois sit here and listen for signals every coupladays. And send reports on back to Earth, of course.""I'm confused" Zaosays. "I thought this was amanagement job, with growth potential." The old man laughs. "Growth potential? There's no way anyone is getting out of here. It's thedeepest pit in GaumataConglomerated. No managerback on Earth will ever see what you're doing here, not when they got eager business school graduatesback there around Sol." The man keeps chucklingunder his breath as he gathers his hat and coat andleaves Zao alone.

Once he's gone, Zaolooks dismayed. "Where do I gofrom here?" she asks herself.

You get a vision: A blinding flash of light isslowly clearing. Jacobson is looking over at someonedressed in a military uniform, whohas collapsed on acounter. "Rayburn?" Jacobson says. "Rayburn, areyou okay? Manassah, say something."Rayburn's eyes slowly open, but there is nocomprehension inside. He looks around at Jacobsonand the laboratory, but does not seem to recognizeanything. He screams, and hoots, and leaps up fromhis chair. As Jacobson watches in shock, Rayburnleaps onto the counter and backs into a corner, terrified of his surroundings."Listen, Manassah." Jacobson says in asoothing voice. "It's okay. Whatever happened haspassed, and you seem to be fine now."Rayburn's foot lashes out, clocking Jacobsonupside the head. As Jacobson falls, Rayburn leapsover him and sprints to the door, yelling somethingwithout words. Jacobson slowly climbs off the floor, andactivates his communicator. "Get me Dr. Crozier, andhave Lieutenant Ramos get his security people downhere. Something has happened to Officer Rayburn." Then Jacobson leans gingerly against the table towait, cradling his injured jaw in a hand.
