Dear Parents
It has been a busy week with Reception Class out and about in Tower Hamlets examining minibeasts and a succession of strong candidates trialling lessons in our Year 1 and 2+ classes. Its a shame the St Georges Day cake sale had a poor turnout, but thanks to our three bakers and customers for their support. Something tells me its probably time to have a long break before the next bake sale! The good news for Reception Class is that Elsa Tickler, who started with us after Easter on trial, has secured the Teaching Assistant post and she will start on Monday. She will also, in early May, be attending training so that she can support the Read, Write, Inc. reading scheme we use. Jo will continue to work with us as lunchtime assistant, in after school club and covering swims so Im pleased that she can continue to be a part of our organisation. Thank you to Jo for stepping in and covering Reception TA duties during this interim period. Also we have a work placement student in Reception Class Sally Ann. She was a member of staff in Rosemary Works Early Years Centre and she will be with us for two days per week for the remainder of the academic year.
Parents Playground Proclivities After School

Punctuality Reminder

We know how difficult it is to collect your children at pickup time and get home they just dont want to leave! Nevertheless, this makes things difficult for our After School Club team who obviously need to manage their assigned children safely and fairly. By that I mean if you give your child snacks or sweets after school to eat on the premises in front of After School Club children, it has the potential to cause bad feeling. Please refrain from giving your children snacks and sweets on school premises and be mindful of our After School Club childrens needs.

I requested in the Newsletter dated 7th December 2012 that parents ensure their children are at school in good time to start lessons at 9:30. There continues to be some cases of lateness and it is imperative that children arrive to school no later than 9:30 (with the exception of Nursery Class). Also, they are in the final term of school and know the routines well, so please leave at 9:30 as it can be disruptive and unsettling; teachers need to start registration at 9:30 sharp and start lessons immediately after. Many thanks in advance.

Perform 4 Schools at Rosemary Works

We are always committed to safeguarding procedures for children and it is of paramount importance that we follow the latest guidelines for child protection.

Changes to Mobile Phone Policy

Therefore we have made some mandatory changes to the e-Safety Policy and Mobile Phone Policy. Press above to read the documents. In the e-Safety policy, there is a slip that you will need to sign and send in to school as soon as you can please. You are also welcome to scan and e-send. In the Mobile Phone Policy, the changes that may affect you are: Parents are not permitted to use their mobile phones on the school premises to take photographs or videos of children. The school exercises the right to view and request deletion of any unauthorised images taken using a mobile device. For the purpose of recording class assemblies, sports days and other public performances or appearances, parents are permitted to use camcorders or digital cameras but not mobile phones. Parents are not permitted under any circumstance to distribute photographs or videos of aforementioned events over the internet.

On Wednesday we had a special visitor to the school from Perform 4 Schools. They are an inspirational drama company that visit schools nationally delivering first rate educational, interactive shows. The theme this term was Around the World and their own Phileas Phogg came to enthral the children. Were looking forward to them returning in September for another visit!

Reception Class Trip Minibeasts at the Soanes Centre

Enrichment Time on the Canal

On Tuesday, the children in Reception Class took a trip to the Soanes Centre in Tower Hamlets to learn all about mini-beasts by getting up close and personal with some of the bugs there. As you can see by the slideshow on the blog, they had plenty of things to investigate using their magnifying glasses and still managed to stomach their packed lunches! They did us proud as they were so excellent at the centre, and what a lovely, sunny day to go too!

and yesterday a group with Dorothy for enrichment time went to the Regents Canal just outside the school to undertake a tally chart of all the wildlife they could spot on route. They also experienced the lock opening and thoroughly enjoyed the warm, spring weather. Press here to see a slide show.

Artist & Scientist of the Week

Our artist in residence this week goes to Josef in Year 1 for his superhero work. He created a jet-pack completely independently (see below) and accompanying paraphernalia. Well done Josef great work!

Prizes & Certificates This Week

Children did really well this week and it was a tough decision for KS1 and KS2 to choose their super stars. In Reception Class, the certificate recipients shone during their science trip (see above) and in Nursery Class, they are making great overall progress. Well done to you all! Next week the whole-school focus is one which as parents Im sure youll agree with: To listen to instructions from an adult and act upon then first time! Watch this space next week to see which children excel at this.

Our Scientist of the Week went to Louis in Year 2 for impressing Dorothy with his scientific knowledge when looking at this weeks topic forces. Good job Louis!
