    Determining

    Meter

    Ascertain which are the largest subdivisions (8th notes or smaller) used. Threes Are they grouped in twos or threes?

    Twos

    The meter is simple.

    Enter the next largest beat value as Y and the maximum number of Y that can be fit into each measure as X.

    Enter the subdivision value as Y and the maximum number of Y that can be fit into each measure as X.

    The meter is compound.

    The meter is odd.


    Is X a multiple of two, three, or four? Is X/3 a multiple of two, three, or four?

    No

    Yes 2 4

    The meter is duple.

    The meter is triple.

    The meter is quadruple
