ounderingeconomy, one localrestaurant chain has hadenough business to warranta major renovation, and it’sbeen a long time coming.The six-weekrenovation of the BurgerKing on Lebanon Road wasspurred by its corporateheadquarters, said managerDonnie Daniels, after the2008 Mt. Juliet specialcensus revealed that the cityis the largest in the county,as well as excellent sales.“Our sales were up15 percent over last year,”Daniels said. “And after anindependent survey said we have the fastest drivethrough in Mt. Juliet, wedecided it was time for anupgrade.”That upgradereached from front to backat Burger King, and top tobottom. The dining room was completely renovatedinto a bistro-style setting, with high tabletops, newambience lighting andupdated furnishings. Newkitchen equipment wasinstalled, as well as newheadsets for the employees,a new roof, new heating andair units and new fountaindrink stations offering newdrinks.Even the Burger Kingmenu has been updated, with a new Steakhouseburger and a complete menuof items for just $1.00.Mention this article for aspecial offer this week.Daniels said thesuccess of the Lebanon RoadBurger King has been a boonin the economy, and thatthe restaurant offers its fullmenu all day, with breakfastitems ceasing at 10:30 a.m.Burger King is open untilmidnight Sunday through Thursday and until 2 a.m.Friday and Saturday.

The way the econo-my is lately, it’s no surprisethat many people are pinch-ing pennies and doing whatthey can to make ends meetand feed their families. Andin Mt. Juliet the story is thesame, especially when itcomes to the senior popula-tion, of which many peopledepend on the charity of others – but lately the localMeals on Wheels is strug-gling and in need of volun-teers.Bus service for theMeals on Wheels serviceout of the Mt. Juliet SeniorCitizens Center eats up 18percent of the year’s bud-get, according to long timevolunteer and board of di-rectors member Bart Scott. The bus once ran
ve daysa week, but recently theboard voted to discontinuethe service on so many daysdue to the cost. He addedthat there are many seniors who depend on the Meals onWheels program for a meal, which may be the only onethey have all day.Scott said the pro-gram now runs four days a week, at four routes daily,except on Tuesdays.Mid-CumberlandHuman Resource Agen-cy sponsors the Meals onWheels program at the MJSenior Citizens Center, andLeaAnn Thrush is the Mt. Juliet site director.“There are around 20homebound people we serveevery day, some in the morerural areas of Mt. Juliet,” shesaid. “There are around 10 who get frozen meals once amonth, because we can’t getout to them otherwise.”Britt Linville is alsoon the board of directors forthe Senior Center as well asfor the Mt.
