Cognition Cockpit™ provides engineers with thetools they need to actively manage systemrequirements in a way that is traceable, andanalytical – in a completely web-basedenvironment providing easy and intuitive access.“Active Requirements Management” isCognition’s approach to systems engineeringand modeling. Requirements Management /Critical Parameter Management
Cognition’s new approach to requirementsmanagement is one of simplicity combined withadvanced technology. The totally web-basedinterface of Cockpit provides users an easy startto using the tool. Most of the commonly usedfunctions are intuitive and require minimaltraining to get started. Cockpit makes quick workof creating requirements: automatically parse aWord document, manually create in an ad hocmode, drag and drop requirements betweenusers, or reuse requirements by quicklysearching through previous projects.Where Cockpit differs from traditionalrequirements management is how it letsinformation flow both down and up therequirements tree. There is no limit to the depthof flow down in a Cockpit requirements tree.There is also no limit to the number of transfer functions created between requirements andparameters. Every requirement reports on itscurrently achieved status using mathematicalmodels to predict nominal and variationalbehavior. This roll up feature is unique toCockpit and, although not needed for everyrequirement, brings stunning clarity to thequestion: “WHAT affects me and HOW does itaffect me?” Immediate feedback on the status of any requirement is available through an intuitivedashboard type interface with immediatenotification of changes that affect each user.

Risk Management
Cockpit’s approach to risk management makes iteasy enough that everyone can help manageand track risks, not just a few risk experts. Userscan build risk and FMEA trees using both a “topdown” and a “bottom up” approach. Cognitionhas closely followed the ISO 14971 riskstandard and made it accessible and usable byeveryone. Mitigations, reports, test plans, andweb research (patents, previous experience,and historical records) are all connected to risksand requirements.
