he Assam College Teachers’ Association(ACTA) can be called an organisation of organicintellectuals, which dreams for a better and seeksto respond to the need of the changing society.ACTA has a well built net work of nearly 8000lecturers working in 189 provincialised collegesof Assam. The Association has stepped into it’sdiamondJubileeYearon26thFebruary,2008.Onthe eve of this diamond jubilee celebration, theassociation has been able to add a golden feather to its cap by securing pensions and other retirement benefits to the retired college teachersandemployeeswhichwasalongstandingdemandof the association. Apart from the agitational programmes, ACTA is equally concerned withacademic and other social issues of the society.Tinsukia College teachers’ unit is one of the strongest units of theACTAand it performsall the programmes and activities of theassociation successfully in time. As theassociation stepped its diamond jubilee year onlast 26th February, 2008 the unit organized aday long celebration programme on the day inresponse to the call of the ACTA centralcommittee. The programme started by hoistingthe ACTA’s flag in the morning by Mrs.Bontimala Devi, president of the college unitand the day’s programmes ended with lightingof sixty (60) earthern lamps at the collegecampus in the evening.

s per U.G.C. Guidelines the Cell for Womens’ Study and Development of TinsukiaCollege was set up in the year 2005. Since itsinception the cell has been organizing various programmes like health camps, awarenesscamps, workshops and counselling programmesonvariouswomenrelatedissuesindifferenttimeat different places.Such a counselling programme wasorganized by the cell on last 12th March, 2008at the Makum G. K. Girls’ High School. InauguralSession was presided over by Principal TinsukiaCollege Dr. Bhuban Ch. Gogoi. Welcome addresswas given by Shri Dhiren Deka of Doomdooma.In the session Dr. Pramod Ch. Neog, Secretary,ABLS gave a brief description about their organization.Second session was the seminar session and thesession was presided over byDr.AmolCh.Tamuli,ExScientist (Jorhat) and the Chairperson of the ABLS.There were three appointed speakers in the seminar session.Theywere—Dr.BhubanCh.Gogoi,Principal,TinsukiaCollege;Mr.HiralalVerma,HoD,Geographydifficulties in their adolescene agewere mainly higlighted in thecounselling. About 300 girlstudentsandfemaleteachersoftheschool took part actively in the programme. Various problemsfaced by several girl students intheir adolescence age group werediscussed freely and friendly andmany valuable suggestions werealso given by the counsellors in this regard.In the discussion of women related issues,socialnormshavebeenidentifiedasthemainfactor hindering the development process of girl’s child in our society. The counselling programme ended with the vote of thanksoffered by Mrs. Bantimala Devi, president,Womens’ Cell, Tinsukia College.
