Puppy Linux
I don't love puppy but I just can't stop loving the puppy Linux 3.1The latest stable iso image (puppy-3.01-seamonkey.iso ) which is availablefree at the following location. The download size is just
98 MB
. It can be burn on a business CD (of 200 MB ).

[puppy is charm on older desktops] For older desktop / laptop puppy linux is a boon. It works like a charm. Youneed not to install it on the hard disk. Just boot it from the CDROM and  puppy will be live with all it's splendor and joy.
Here is the puppy desktop when it runs from my CDROM on my P-III 512 Mdektop. It did select all my devices , soundcard , internal modem with ease.
 
For music and movie lovers puppy has gxine media player which playsalmost all common types of media files including mp3 and mpegs.

For document portion puppy has abiword 2.4.5 and gnumeric spread sheet1.63. However puppy has in built PDF reader and PDF converter program.The CD / DVD burner can be found from the menu itself.[Internet / Network]Puppy has the seamonkey browser which reminds me of Netscape but it is far more faster than the later . It has tabbed browsing and lots of plugins arealready built in (viz. Swf , gxine etc).It did detect easily my ethernet card and the USB web camera. My DSLMTNL broadband on pppoE could be installed very easily. Puppy has a'ghttpd' webserver ready for deployment. The firewall can be redesigned toaccept inbound call for httpd / ssh / telnet etc. By default the inboundconnection is disallowed.
[Fun]
In the fun section the rubix cube 3D game is very eye catching. Those who played rubix on physical cube would love it to play.
[Save on exit]
While rebooting / stopping , puppy will ask you where to save the setup files.It can be saved on any hard drive or on USB drive or saving may be omitted.Once saved on next boot puppy will open up quite fast. Almost in one minutethe full desktop comes alive on my P-III desktop.
[Puppy consumes less battery power: It's true]
On my Lenovo laptop the setup file is saved on the USB pen drive. Itconsumes almost 20% less battery power on my laptop. This could be due tonon use of hard drives (the hard drive motors and the stylus is not used at all)

Puppy can detect all the hard drives of your computer and then just by singleclicking the hard disk can be explored. It could explore my windows partitionon NTFS without any problem.[pappy package manager]The pappy package manager is quite simple . Just select the package and itwill download all the associated dependencies from Internet and then install.There are few hundreds package available to install. In fact while some older Linux cannot mount the latest 320 GB USB NTFS-3G drives Puppy canmount them so easily.For taking back ups of the older PCs , Puppy can be a ready made solution.Just boot from CDROM, insert your portable USB hard disk and then take back ups of all the files.
