PRESS RELEASE
SWIFT BOAT AGENCY PLACES INACCURATE ATTACK AD AGAINST PEDUTO APRIL 28, 2013 Wagner's Republican friends are lying about Bill Peduto to distract from his votes to raise his own pay and give himself a 50 percent pension boost. Peduto has always supported a living wage. This ad is made by the same Republicans who made the infamous "Swift Boat" ad for George W. Bush. Wagner is running away from his record with help from his Republican allies whose budget he supported.
Claim Peduto was the only councilmember to vote against helping Homewood seniors Fact Bill Peduto has always been a strong advocate for community-based development.

Bill Peduto and other members of council heard from dozens of Homewood residents who asked him to oppose the sale of land between the Urban Redevelopment Authority and developers. [2012-0586, signed 7/26/12]

The residents of Homewood felt that the project had been pushed through with very little public input and opposed nine variances before the zoning board. Of the project, one resident said, What it is in our community is actually gentrification. Development should come from the inside out. to expand a tax abatement program citywide.

In 2007, Council passed a tax abatement bill to spur development of housing Downtown and in select city neighborhoods. [Officials want tax abatement to spur Downtown housing, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 2/13/07]

Peduto introduced a bill to expand the program to all city neighborhoods. [2011-2222, signed 12/20/11]. In direct contrast to the claim in the ad, the program is available citywide. [Pittsburgh councilman proposes expanded tax abatement program, Pittsburgh PostGazette, 10/25/11] Peduto opposed funding Hill Bill Peduto supports a community-based plan District development developed by the Hill Consensus Group.

Bill Peduto has supported the dollar-a-car plan put forward by the Hill Consensus group. It would ensure that a piece of the parking revenue in the Lower Hill addresses the real needs of the community.

The attack ad makes reverence to a plan that uses only parking tax revenue from the temporary spaces created between demolition of the arena and the construction of the new development. [2012-0244, signed 5/18/12] Peduto supports the proposal that would be permanent and would continue long after temporary parking lots at the former arena site are gone. [#25 A Dollar a Car: Sharing in Revenue Generated from Parking, billpeduto.com, 4/27/13] Peduto voted against living wage Bill Peduto has never voted against a living wage bill. He was a sponsor to Pittsburghs prevailing wage law that is now law.

Peduto was not on council when the living bill was passed in 2001. He later supported language that made this bill contingent on the County enacting similar legislation, which failed in County Council. [2002-0287, signed 4/5/2002]

Peduto was a sponsor of the prevailing wage bill passed in 2009, which was subjected to a midnight New Years eve veto by the mayor. [2009-1967, vetoed 12/31/2009]

Peduto was also a sponsor of the prevailing wage bill that was re-introduced the following year and passed without the mayors signature [2010-0005, enacted without signature, 2/15/2010]
